You know it's funny how so many people in Bloodborne want to *ascend beyond humanity* or whatever, throwing all caution and ethics to wind, sacrificing countless innocent lives in pursuit of their goal, always failing and creating some twisted monstrosity instead. But at the end of the game, the Hunter does it. They attain enough Insight, kill enough monsters, beat up the Moon, and finally, finally ascend. All these great men, all these scholars and priests and leaders trying to reach this point, paving their road to ascension with thousands of corpses, and the guy/gal who actually does it is some random schmuck from out of town who didn't even want it. And you wanna know the best part? The real cherry on top? The Hunter doesn't even turn into a cool eldritch being, instead they end up as this:
