I don't think so. You don't tend to think of the environment you're raised in as the odd one, but I also don't think he spent a ton of time in Saiyan society, so he might've just decided that's what his parents were like and the FF is just built different. He's not squishy like his brother, but Bardock isn't squishy either, he's just bonded to his partner.

That said, a lot of the lower classes seem to be pretty neighborly as they're depicted in Chapter Minus, so Raditz was born into a more community-minded environment than Vegeta and Nappa overall. He probably didn't know there was a difference in how Gine regarded other Saiyans (which seems to be pretty much also how Toriyama's Goku reads relationships, too. He knows on paper there are different categories but he doesn't care about them. He just wants to snuggle the homies), he was very young when he left home and he was very young when she died.

Also worth noting for the sake of headcanons: Toriyama mentioned in an interview that they were a family but they were never all home at the same time. Raditz almost certainly never had a clear view of his parents' relationship. He was a little boy the last time he saw them, and they were lower classes, so it's not likely imo that the elites he was working with would've known them well either, if at all.

If Raditz thought his parents were weak, it would probably be due to the fact that he outranked them both as a kid, not because they lived together. And even so, he stayed in contact with his mother, and Vegeta remembers Bardock was the name of the boys' father a full decade and some change after Raditz died, so he must have heard it often enough to stick. Personally, I don't think Raditz felt any disrespect toward his folks. As I mentioned in my other post, I do think he is softer than both Nappa and Vegeta, in the same way a coconut is technically softer than a stone. You'd break your teeth on either one.

I think I also mentioned in the other post that without his brand of softness, I think the series would've ended with his introduction. He came to Earth because he remembered his brother and came back for him. He wanted Goku on his team, and he offered not to kill Gohan on the grounds that he was Gohan's uncle. Raditz was always more open to community bonding than Vegeta and Nappa were (and Nappa more prone to troop bonding than Vegeta was). They are extremely ruthless in comparison to Earthlings, but they're all squishy compared to Freeza. In terms of cruelty and cold-hearted nature, Raditz is closer to Nappa than he is to Goku, but he's closer to Goku than he is Vegeta (who has slowly become closer to Piccolo than he was Freeza).

It's a spectrum, not a switch, if that makes sense.

I remember you saying that you didn't think Raditz's personality in the games, such as him being apologetic or his outbursts at Vegeta and Nappa, truly reflected his personality. In your opinion, is he "friendlier" than the other two? and how do you think his personality really is? 

And Do you believe that Saiyans have a battle cry or a war cry similar to those of other warrior nations?

I think for me it’s less about what’s true and more about which version of the series I personally prefer. That’s his true personality to lots of people based on their preferred canon! I just enjoy the more subdued personality I’ve seen in Toriyama-led stuff, even when it’s self-parody. I also read him as the youngest of the trio (although not by much; the same if not very, very close to Vegeta’s age), which has a lot to do with how I read his personality. A lot of media frames Vegeta as the baby of the group, which is what other folks base their dynamics on, so I think mine is a little odd(?)

I did a bit of a writeup on him here, and that’s in response to this ask. I personally think his personality falls somewhere between Vegeta and Cui. I think he’d prefer to be taken seriously, but isn’t necessarily interested in putting the work into it since he’s already among the strongest in the universe. I don’t think he’s as insecure as he’s depicted in extended media, unless he’s actively failing (the same way Toriyama’s Vegeta’s insecurity only spikes when he’s genuinely threatened by or in front of another Saiyan). I think he takes his job more seriously than Nappa, but I think he also leans more heavily into the aesthetics of being a Saiyan elite than the goal of being one, since he like the others was raised to (and seems to) believe that the way you’re born dictates your lot in life, so I don’t think he has much taste for ambition. He leaves the power climb to guys like Vegeta, he’s hardcore and badass enough for his needs.

I don’t think he’s riding coat tails or anything. The way Vegeta hates sycophants, I do think Raditz does his best to keep up and had done well to survive as long as he did on his own merit (although I also enjoy the simultaneous comedy of Bardock’s wish just keeping him alive in absurd circumstances), I just also think he’s resigned to the idea that he’s not on that level and doesn’t really strive to be. tldr I think he’s Vegeta’s Zarbon. He’s smart and he’s strong, but he’s also totally fine with being a wingman.

I LOVE the idea of a battle cry, yes. I think it’s probably more traditional and wasn’t used often by the younger generations, but sort of coinciding with another ask I haven’t answered yet, I’m mildly obsessed with the sounds howler monkeys make (https://youtube.com/shorts/w_YnH9mMm1c?is=Qr9DaAXXaOvXzToM, https://youtube.com/shorts/M2uvfRpTFHU?is=a2a0w0ggcoPh0p8O) and how insanely loud they are, so I do love to hc they use vocalizations to communicate across long distances including battle cries to rile each other up and/or alert others that shit’s going down. The unanswered hc is more about a Sound Off passed down from a pre-scouter era, where each Saiyan has a distinct long-distance call and so they can check who’s still alive after a battle (shout out to gibbons who have a very classic monkey sound,,and also this sound). I like to think when the tech fails they can still do it, although I imagine Vegeta is the last to use it.
