What game has the best art style?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Official and perhaps automated question, but I still thought it was interesting and my first ask!
With art you can't objectively say "this art style is the best", or "this one is better than that one", and this also applies to games and art styles, esp so given many games have diverse settings and styles even within the same game (so much choice!)
However, I can show off a few that I think are cool if you're looking for inspiration, in no particular order:
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 ※ Gormotti Titan: looking out over the cloud sea from Gormott
Kingdom Hearts 3 ※ Scala ad Caelum: The white city
There are many places in the KH series I'm not obsessed with Traverse Town please send DDD traverse town pics like Twilight Town etc which look esp gorgeous in the KHIII rendering engine, but one I haven't talked about is Scala. It's so mysterious - I wanna just worldbuild and explore the whole place 🌟
Pokémon Sun and Moon ※ Alola: Library concept art
Technically A Video Game™, but I'm more interested in the anime. It feels like such a lived-in world with such scale! it makes me wanna go on a giant trip for like multiple years with a friend to explore the whole world ^_^
No wonder Ash is such a wanderer....
Ori and the Blind Forest ※ Thornfelt Swamp (cleansed): Waterfall and forest
Gosh it took a moment to find this place's name, I'd forgotten it.... Ori has such nice art 🌠
CrossCode ※ M.S. Solar: looking out towards Rhombus Square
CrossCode is like a modern, buttery-smooth love letter to pixelated games of yore, and also has such a diverse range of environments and art! From the tall buildings of Rhombus Square to the jungles of Gaia's Garden to the traditional 日本 Japanese style eternal-night Sapphire Ridge... 🤩
I really need to take and store more screenshots of the games I've played before for inspiration and reference.....
Hermitcraft Season 9 ※ The Land of Soup: The Soup Group 【GeminiTay, ImpulseSV, PearlescentMoon】's bases. Pearl is the alien biome to the left, Gem is the castle to the right, and Impulse is the giant dwarf fortress in the middle.
Also Technically A Game™ (hey, there are world downloads you can explore!), the closeness of the 3 hermits' bases in the Land of Soup was the catalyst for Season 10 and everything that's come after, but there are SO MANY cool bases here: at some point when I have the time and the patience I want to make a like 3 hour walking the map video for these beautiful places 🎵🎶🎵🎶 ✨
Some crazy and awesome person did a 6 hour (6 hours!) walking from Mondstadt to Fontaine video (wow they have the patience of a saint), which was so fun to relax, chill, and work on fanfics/other stuff to!
I dunno exactly where this is, but the art and scenery of the place is so cool... 🌅
ニノ国 Ni No Kuni ※ Ding Dong Dell: The Cat King's Kingdom
While I don't get the ノvsの in the title there, I'm gonna play this game in Japanese some day ^_^
Backed by Studio Ghibli with a truly magical shader and ~20 mins (IIRC) of original Ghibli footage, 二ノ国 also has such a diverse range of places, modelled after the 4 seasons. From Ding Dong Well Dell and Al Mamoon in the Summerlands to Hamelin and Perdida in Autumnia to Yule in the Winter Isles... there's just so many cool places... asdqwdnoqwn ❄️
Celeste ※ Celeste Mountain: A strange place. You might see things.... things you aren't ready to see... 【fan art credit: notenlish @ itch.io】
While I haven't played the game, the art - similar to CrossCode - is so cool! It can be so cool and also terrifying - sometimes even in the same breath.
I can see the travel posters for places like this.... I might make one at some point 🌈
Phoenotopia: Awakening ※ GEO Club's Lake Laboratory
Okay okay I might have a thing for pixel games apparently, but Phoenotopia is just creative in it's use of perspective! It's a 2D side scroller (developed by Quell @phoenotopia), but with the layers behind, it really elevates the immersion in a way that the original flash game from all those years ago couldn't.
The old tramway/railway (which I can't screenshot rn given I'm stuck on Katash...) also has a really cool look.
Chicory: A Colorful Tale ※ Dessert Mountain from afar: Pizza gazing up at Dessert Peak and down at much of Picnic Province
If you haven't encountered Chicory the game before, I strongly recommend it, as it's a game about colouring in the world! It's also a game about a lot of other things too... but that's a spoiler :P
Gushing about another game aside, Picnic Province is just such a cool and creative place, everything from the smallest plant to the grandest mountain have been lovingly crafted and they're so すごいだね!🌄
Treasure Planet ※ Space background inspired by Treasure Planet, drawn by me
Woah, that's a lotta places.... I have a lotta poster/postcard drawing to do in mah future :P
Thanks so much: I needed this ask today 💖
