salamence’s wings are directly connected to the feliform musculature of its back, allowing for flexibility and maneuverability in midair that paired wings articulated to the coracoid cannot give

its wings are intensive to develop, and so only emerge from under the skin after a pubescent, semi-pupate stage, stimulated by repeated stress

it is difficult for a captive shelgon to fully pupate without said stressors present; in its natural habitat, shelgon will seek out heights to throw itself off of to crack its shell when its wings are sufficiently developed, conditions that can often not be replicated in captivity. a salamence that has undergone incomplete, inadequate, or, in some cases, early metamorphosis can develop wings improperly fused to the outer layer of skin, wings that are too small or weak to fly with, or other developmental problems

for this reason, most captive salamence are wild-caught

Abomasnow, the frost tree Pokemon. It whips up blizzards in mountains that are always buried in snow. It is the abominable snowman.
