Spoilers ahead: how Iguin acquired Coco

Basically, Coco goes to the festival, stumbles across Iguin who offers her the book. Coco is so intrigued by magic and the tiles and Iguin thinks to himself; "hmm... I could have her grow on her own (like in canon) or... OR I could raise her in my image." He nods himself like, sure good idea good idea and yoinks Coco from the festival, promising her that he'll teach her magic.

Coco doesn't understand that she's being taken from her mother but the concept of learning magic is so intriguing to her she doesn't protest.

She of course cries for her mother the longer Iguin keeps her, but eventually all of her memories of her mother sort of fade into the background as she was so little when she was taken.

Coco is too interested in contraptions, helping others, and supporting the community around her to be too tied to an Atelier or the Great Hall. That and how Coco learns is a bit too non conventional. It works for her but it would not help students with the basics, at least not the way young ones probably need to learn. In her eyes, she wouldn't be able to be what Qifrey was for them, so she isn't sure she would be suited to be a full on teacher.
