literacy schooling is going to have to be something that the usamerican left has to tackle. between the popularity of the three-cueing method (to the exclusion of phonics), the inadequacy of online schooling during lockdowns, the unaddressed psychological trauma of everyone but especially those whose formative years were during lockdown, children who are neglecting school in favor of work, and coming in hungry to class as welfare is cut and food prices rise and rise, and on and on... this is a problem which is only going to get worse. we need to start by not being assholes about it and taking it seriously.

gonna put my money where my mouth is and sign up to volunteer for local literacy classes. i encourage yall to consider doing the same. imo the problem is beyond what most adult literacy courses are equipped to handle, but it will give us all somewhere to start
