Ooof, I can’t believe I forgot to post this!!!

His father has been gravely injured, and he’s understandably very angry – to the point of wanting revenge on those responsible and to the point of teaming up with the treasonous former high mage of Katolis. 

But it’s so ironic that Kasef unknowingly seeks help from the person who is actually responsible for his father’s injury in the first place. 

Viren cast the spell that sent the shadow assassins to Del Bar, Neolandia, Evenere, and Duren (side note: I’ve been wondering how Queen Aanya avoided this attack). Viren is literally responsible for what happened to his father. And Kasef has absolutely no idea. 

Viren, of course, knows that the “Xadian” attacks were his doing, and never seems remorseful about using Kasef’s anger and desire for revenge to his own advantage, nor does he seem to feel guilty about what he did to King Ahling.

Kasef literally gives up his human form and later his life for a cause that truly believes in – destroying the Xadian enemies responsible for his father’s injury. And that cause is a lie. Kasef dies without ever knowing this or without ever knowing what really happened to his father. 

This fits in so well with tdp’s narrative about breaking the cycle of revenge and choosing to stop fighting battles that previous generations fought without really understanding the full story or original conflict.
