My ADHD brain:

This isn’t to argue that it’s free from any issues. Of course it’s not. But the concept of “exploitation” is such a human concept. As is suppression. You give an animal everything that it needs, helping it live as pain free as possible - that doesn’t feel cruel to me.

I’ve heard arguments that animal products (wool, leather etc) are the worst thing for the environment. When did we stop considering a natural, biodegradable option requiring significantly less water to “manufacture” to be worse than a garment that literally just sheds micro plastics?

I get it - death is uncomfortable to think about. But everyone and everything dies. With all due respect, the concept of living in social isolation whilst crippled with arthritis and dropping body condition because of age doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun? Humans have the advantage of “looking back at the good old days!”. A cow or sheep doesn’t. They literally only know the moment. And if that moment is pain? Then life is pain to them. A cow or sheep will not have their own kind take so kindly to them once they’re old and slow. (I’ve seen it in horses. It’s awful.)

This is not meant to tell anyone they’re bad for believing something that might not be quite as black and white as it seems. I’ve come from that. I gave 9 years of my life to that until I physically couldn’t because I was getting sick. It turns out that I am one of those fabled “can’t survive without animal protein” people. Biology has set us up to have an easier time digesting them. And when done with the animals welfare in mind - that’s not a bad thing. Because life isn’t bad or good. You’re not bad or good based on whether or not you eat meat, dairy or quinoa. It’s literally just about surviving and thriving and doing what you can. Preferably in a way that doesn’t kill the planet any quicker…

Capitalism is great for an economy that is just getting started (capitalism = quick growth) but alone is very unstable and unsustainable. Communism is also bad... Stalin didn't just accidentally end up where he did. Communism on paper looks incredible, but it is also so very easy to corrupt and manipulate.

Socialism does not equal communism. I wish people would consider how a system made up of multiple systems would be better than just picking one extreme over the other.

"under socialism, individuals can still own property. But industrial production, or the chief means of generating wealth, is communally owned and managed by a democratically elected government." - This is why I believe in socialism. Communism is too extreme. You don't dump ice in boiling oil.

I’m tired of living in a bedroom surrounded by washing up because my brain struggles with keeping on top of it and the owner of the house is so passive aggressive if I leave anything out.

I’m tired of worrying about whether I’ve misplaced something again, or if my boyfriends dad has thrown it out because “it was in his way”. Also having the constant pressure of somehow making the tiny bedroom we live in work with 2 adults and 2 cats living in here, then having more stuff to squeeze in because “it either goes upstairs or I’m throwing it out”.

I know people tell me I should be grateful because I have a roof over my head - but sometimes it’s hard when the person in charge of said roof makes you feel so very in the way. My mental health is taking a beating and I honestly don’t know what to do.
