my current theatre dilemma:
i am freaking FINALLY getting to play my #1 dream role of all time, pugsley addams from the addams family this summer. im currently in rehearsals, my best friend is playing wednesday, and i couldnt be more grateful for this and im so excited to open later at the end of this month. im also directing the show and its my first time doing a show through the theatre troupe i started.
theres AT LEAST like 4 community theatres in my area, and ofc two shows id do anything to be in are happening at the same time at two of the theatres. one of them is about to have auditions for come from away and one of their shows is actually ON 9/11 ITSELF which is so freaking phenomenal. (even tho another community theatre just did this show in jan/feb and my parents were in it). my dream role is kevin j but im a young adult and i know the choreographer has already been told hes getting kevin t, im SUPER happy for him, hes a good friend of mine, but hes a bit older than me and that would definitely be awkward for us lol. so im still gonna put kevin j as my first choice on my audition form but for this specific production im gonna shoot more for hopefully getting janice !!
the other show thats happening at the same time is addams family. not mine, a different production of it. i REALLY wanna audition for pugsley again so bad, but even if i got an ancestor id take it. i know the director really well and the vocal director even told my mom to tell me to come audition for it for pugsley (theyre having a 16+ cast so they know pugsley will be a bit harder to cast).
come from away auditions come first so i’ll audition for that, and if i dont get cast then i’ll go over to the other theatre and audition for addams family. i really wish i could do both, but all the rehearsals in august would overlap. i am leaning a bit more towards come from away bc im getting to do addams family rn, but it would also be a really cool opportunity. and on top of that ill be starting college soon and theyre doing little shop of horrors, which ive already been in before, love the show but it was like my least favorite show to be in, however i really dont want fomo yk. and bc of my crippling anxiety i still dont drive so theres the issue of transportation if my parents get cast in one of the productions and i get cast in the other or whatever. my dad is 100% leaning more towards come from away, he wants claude or nick again, he was gonna audition for mal but hed rather do cfa, and ik he doesnt wanna be an ancestor. my mom is kinda the opposite, she was actually asked to vocal direct but shes vocal directing 3 other shows so she cant, she thought about taking diane again, but beverley is her dream role so she’ll probably take beverley or nothing, and if she doesnt get it she’ll go audition for alice which is the show she’s leaning more towards.
i just wish the shows werent happening at the same time !! :((

Moment of jewish queer joy:
Happened across a pj library stand, picked up a book. Woman who runs it, sweet mother type with a tischel and all goes "just so you be aware, it has gay romance in it"
I lightly tap my they/them pin
Fellas, i have NEVER seen an orthodox jewish woman light up so fast. It was soooooo good. Spent ten minutes standing there talking before i had to run to my event but literally such a heartwarming interaction. I now have a book about jewish gay werewolves.
BREAKING DOWN "FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA"
Many people don't see anything wrong with this phrase: what about it? Just a call for a free Palestine. The obvious question is, free from what, exactly? But that is not my point just yet.
Let's start with which phrase is actually used in the Palestinian protests, not in the west where it is translated for you. courtesy of u/pitstawp on reddit, quoting:
Modern Standard Arabic (formal register): ** min an-nahr il l-bahr, filastin-sa tatHarrar. ** From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. I guess you might hear this on a news broadcast like al-Jazeera, or a political speech, or a dinner, etc.
Palestinian Arabic (less formal register): ** min il-mayye l-il-mayye, filastin arabayye. ** From the river to the sea, Palestine will be **Arab.** This is way more common, anecdotally. It's what you'd likely hear at a protest. It's in the more colloquial Palestinian dialect, and it's got an explicit Arab-nationalist/Palestinian-nationalist connotation. You can see it sprayed all over the West Bank, and I would assume Gaza too, though IDK. I don't know how old it is, but definitely several decades.
To simplify, the version the public and foreigners get is a call for freedom, while the protesters call for an arab only territory. But what territory is it? Let's look at that, too. Here is a map of Israel and Palestine
Now, some people who got their knowledge of the conflict from half-baked tiktoks don't even know palestine is not a single chunk of land: it's divided into two parts, West Bank and Aza Strip. Between them lay Israel. Now let me outline to you the territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea:
For this territory to be arab, it would imply the wiping of jews from Israel and establishing an arab territory in its place.
Using this phrase when you simply mean you want Palestine to be free, of whatever it is you think it's occupied by, is like using exempts from Hitler's manifestos as motivational speech.
Please reblog this for awareness and spread. Maybe I will make a post about some explanation on the war—not the political implications, right and wrong, and how it came to be, but about what is currently happening and what both those nations are doing, from a point as unbiased as can be. I am open to answering questions asked in good faith.

Delmer and Pete were making out I just can't prove it
Happy pride, here’s your yearly reminder that Jews belong in queer spaces! 🏳️🌈✡️
I just learned about the Cloud of Guidance today. And I realized that's why I don't like the term "Jew by Choice".
I don't think I had a choice any more than those Jews in the desert. I didn't choose this, Hashem chose me just like He chose all Jews. I guess I could technically refuse to follow Hashem's guidance, leading me home. But if the choice is to be left alone in the desert, never finding home, is it really a choice?
And I'm not even in any hurry to finish my official conversion. If it takes 10 years that's just fine. But I don't think I can ever live without Hashem and the Jewish community again.
Also I REALLY need to email my local congregation again. I emailed them in January, got told the conversion class is full, and then my ADHD ass forgot and procrastinated on it 😭
“I’ll tell you a secret: Hamas has told us since October 7th, in the last two years with all the suffering in Gaza, Hamas has never not told the Israelis—and this makes the Israeli prime time news, even if it doesn’t make your TikTok feed—that they’re going to do it again, and forever. Until every last one of us—not (until) every last one of us is decolonized into a civic democracy—until every last one of us is dead. You are telling Israelis “dismantle your self-determination and your defence in the name of peace and justice. And Hamas is telling Israelis “I will murder you the second you do that.””
-Haviv Rettig Gur
That's so funny…
I just came across this post. I don't follow, but it's funny.
You say "you love your Jewish friends" but you are against Zionism and pro-Israel ideology -
that means you don't want them to have a safe homeland, or in other words you "love Jews" but only of a "certain kind", not all of them…
And what a charming info you gave here.. From AL JAZEERA and Hamas' Wikipedia... That says it all. The MASTER of Hamas propaganda. nice!
What do you think, my fellow Jews?

I'm shouting into the void here but I need to get it out.
I don't label my politics, but I'm what someone would call on the left. I spent my teenage years when Tumblr social justice was at its height. I learned things, checked my own biases, and I would like to think became a more empathetic person because of what I learnt from online progressive spaces.
The way these spaces have treated Jewish communities over the past 2.5 years has been nothing short of fucking appalling.
The worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust was minimised, denied, justified, or outright celebrated.
Jewish people were immediately told to put their grief and trauma over this to away, because Palestine's pain was more important to talk about.*
Jewish and Israeli people were told they needed to try and understand why armed men raped, tortured, and killed members of their community. Because, you know, the murderous rapists are who we need to have sympathy for here. Anyone can be pushed to the point of, I don't know, murdering a young woman and parading her corpse around a street for men to spit on her dead body. If you really think about it, isn't that actually kind of an understandable thing to do?
When raising concerns over the rising antisemitism that was starting to look a lot like the build-up to that little historical tidbit called The Holocaust, Jews were told they were selfish for raising the issue.
When asking people not to call for intifadas that have historically resulted in thousands of dead Jews, they're told they're taking it all the wrong way.
When Israeli victims spoke of the abuse they received on Oct 7 and in captivity, they're told they need to stay silent because otherwise they risk justifying the genocide of Palestinians.
When 15 people were murdered at a Hannukah festival, there were no social media icons, no surge from progressive groups to find out what support they needed.
To be clear here, progressive groups seem more concerned with antisemitism in the Harry Potter books than they are about the actual, you know, string of dead Jews that have been murdered over the past few years. If you condemn antisemitic representations in diction and then turn around and completely ignore real-life fucking murder, then I'm sorry I genuinely do not think you ever gave a shit about fighting antisemitism, you just wanted to fight Jk Rowling. **
Absolutely fuck everyone who has justified or denied what happened on Oct 7th. There were ways to advocate for both Israeli and Palestinian victims, but the people who should have known better have ensured that Oct 7th wasn't just one day of hell for Jewish communities, but that its been currently 2.5 years of hell that seems to just be getting worse.
And the most infuriating part is the people who did justify Oct 7th will never admit they were wrong, because that would mean admitting they argued that the murder rape mutilation torture and kidnap of a Jewish community was acceptable, and that would break their brains. I mean it. The cognitive dissonance between believing you are someone who cares for human rights, whilst also being someone who justified all of that, is too great. The brain will always protect itself. Its why people are currently doubling down on there being no rapes on Oct 7th. Rape is not resistance, it is not self defence, it is not landback, it is not right of return, it is not decolonisation, it is not any of the shit people tell themselves Oct 7th was. Rape is just rape. It is just men torturing people (mainly women) for no other reason than because they enjoy it. You will never see these people admitting rape occurred, because the second they do is the second they realise just how horrifically they have behaved.
And it's not getting better. Hate crimes and murders of worldwide Jewish communities are rising. Jewish people are looking to leave places like the US, UK and Australia, which were once considered some of the safest places for them to live. A KKK slur (zio) is now common online usage. Jewish people are expected to sever any connection to an important part of their culture (Israel/Hebrew) in order to be treated somewhat civily. The more IDF crimes are uncovered in Gaza, the more worldwide Jewish communities bear the brunt of the anger. Typing 'Jewish' into any social media brings you into an absolute clusterfuck of the most horrific things you can possibly see people say about their fellow human beings.
I am just sick and exhausted and furious and it feels like I'm hitting my fists against a brick wall that is not knocking down. How do you even get people to realise how bad this is????
I am not Jewish. I know full well that Jewish people talking about all of this get ignored. I know full well that a Jewish person standing up for Palestine gets thousands of notes, and a Jewish person standing up for their own people barely breaks 100. I know full well that Jewish people are being smeared as paranoid or crazy or selfish. I know full well that non-Jewish people speaking up about antisemitism is taken more seriously than Jewish people talking about their own experiences.
Can you all just start fucking having some fucking empathy for Jewish and Israeli communities who have been facing the worst 2 years of their lives. Fucking please. It is not that fucking hard to feel empathy for lots of groups at once. To empathise with both Palestine and Israel, Muslims and Jews. Empathy for all is part of what brings us away from just being animals and makes us human.
If you can't do it, it is not an issue with Jews or Israelis or Zionists or the IDF, it is an issue with you.
*I am not saying Palestinian pain isn't important to raise awareness of, and the people fearing what the IDF would do immediately after Oct 7th were right to raise it. I'm saying asking Jewish communities to take on the trauma of Palestinians, when they were still reeling from their own inter-community trauma, was wrong and unhelpful. I wouldn't ask Palestinian communities to have centered the trauma of Oct 7th either. Trauma is not a competition and everyone deserves to have their respective pain treated fairly.
**also not saying that Rowling shouldn't be criticized, because she is awful, but that real-life massacres and rapes of Jews is sort of a bigger priority than bad representation in the Harry Potter books, and that if you can't understand that then...yeah. you didn't actually care about jewish people at all.
One thing that pisses me off about the online leftist Free Palestine type is that when you confront them about commenting“Free Palestine” on a Jewish person’s post - they say “Oh - I’m not targeting Jewish people. I do this to everyone” or “I ask everyone about their opinion on Palestine before I decide if they’re a good person not just Jews.”
We all know that’s bullshit because if you did spend all your time writing “Free Palestine” comments underneath everyone’s posts — more than just Jewish people would be complaining.
And like…that is the laziest activism ever if it were true.
