Even though the main theme of this last chunk of episodes deals with Dominator’s desire to destroy the galaxy we didn’t want the end of the season to just be a bunch of dark and serious cartoons. So tonight we take a break from the heaviness and give you two episodes with a lighter tone. First up…

Early on in the series we had a loose idea for an episode called The Molt. The idea was that every so often Zbornaks have to shed their skin like a snake. The process is annoying and uncomfortable and Sylvia just wanted to be left alone during this period but Wander being Wander tried to make the experience more pleasant much to her growing frustration. Every time we walked through the story we couldn’t find the funny, it really felt like Wander was being really unsympathetic to Sylvia’s plight. In addition, drawing Sylvia shedding just seemed off so we put it on the back burner. 

Late in Season 2 the concept came up again but this time we flipped it, what if Wander was having the bad time and Sylvia was the one trying to help out? Now the story had some momentum and THE SICK DAY came together pretty quickly. Special shout out to Ben Balistreri for his amazing storyboard/directing work on this show, his handling of Wander’s progressing illness really pushed the visual comedy of this cartoon. Also this episode marks the return of actor/ impressionist Piotr Michael to the show. We loved his Jeff Bridges as Major Threat in The Good Bad Guy so we called him in to do his best Dame Maggie Smith for Ms. Myrtle The Eternal Turtle.

The Sky Guy is another episode that started out as one idea that evolved into another.  In the early days of Season 2 we had an idea for an episode where Wander was watching alien bugs crawl through the underbrush and started to narrate the story he thought he was observing. Sort of like David Attenborough crossed with Ernie and the Twiddle Bugs on Sesame Street. There wasn’t enough here to give the episode drive so we combined it was another germ of an idea we had of a large god like eye staring down at a tiny planet through a hole in the sky. Add in Noelle Stevenson’s doodle of Neckbeard the All Knowing Naysayer and we had the makings of a really interesting Sci-Fi / Fantasy episode. Excited to have comedian Seth Morris join us as Neckbeard and always amazing Dee Bradley Baker as the Bitties.

No matter how much fanart I do, no matter how many times I tell them that we're interested in s3, I feel like they can't even notice the hard work I've been putting into giving this beloved treasure more love it needs. Not to mention that we've been wondering about the star nomad ship, the simian, and the downed spacecraft for almost 10 consecutive years. I gotta be honest here, Disney shouldn't have canceled WOY in the first place! Reneé Auberjonois (OG voice of Maurice the moon) is gone, and June Squibb is currently in her golden years, and I don't know what would be a perfect substitute for them. It'll be better if Disney would stop caring about the overrated series and give underrated series (WOY, HOI, etc) the proper closure they deserve. This is so infuriating! Ugh, if only they can notice our hard work and let us see that third season!

I do remember that CJ made a post about the original voice actor for Maurice and how he passed (my condolences) and said that Eric Buaza would be a great recasting for Maurice. (He plays many looney tunes characters, including Pepe the Skunk.)

I’m sorry you’re not happy with Craig being “quiet” with WOY S3, it’s been kind of hard checking on him since he deleted his twitter account and moved to Bluesky.

I still believe with my warm heart that Disney hasn’t given up on Wander Over Yonder. They might be busy with other things right now, but one thing is for certain, I KNOW we will get S3 of Wander, we just have to keep our hopes high and everything will be fine!
