They almost let this man die in a straight jacket simply because they were too racist. And then when they realize their "mistake", they tell him that his life is worth a 25$ supermarket gift card. Of course he's suing them for $75,000 as he should but like. Can you imagine how insulted he must've been. The 4 Tops were one of the top Motown bands of all time. You can be at the top of the music scene and still, they'll kill you because you're black. And they'll use fake claims about mental illness and "aggression" to justify it

this kind of system is a weapon which can be pointed at anyone. in order to prevent shit like this from happening, we also need to deconstruct how we view mentally ill people, including people who are delusional and hallucinate, and what we view as "reasonable" or "necessary" when it comes to such people.

These are related problems. And until we fix the root cause, they will keep happening.

And again I must say that Black people, not being a monolith, there are no hard fast rules to being Black. I’m more than sure there are Black people like what I’ve described above, I’m not saying it’s impossible; what I’m getting at is that the only Black Nerd we see. There are Black Nerds that play basketball, that bump Kendrick Lamar, and use AAVE since it’s an ever changing dialect. I’m just saying there’s no one way of being a nerd and no one way of being Black.

This ain’t about him, this is about Black/Asian solidarity. Focus.

you are required to cope with feeling guilty about being racist. your shame is only important to you, its only value is that it motivates you to be less racist.

This is almost entirely true, but you shouldn't feel ashamed. Nobody is immune to propaganda, and you are not at fault for internalizing it. What is your fault is when you become aware of a racist belief that you hold or action you've performed, and then you ignore or refuse to change it. Shame, in this context, is a useless emotion that drives energy away from real political change and community forming and instead internalizes it. It is at best a possibly *ok* motivator for reducing individual racist behavior and at worst just another source of anxiety that both helps no-one and hurts you (shame is correlated with depression and suicidality for instance). Instead, just try to stay educated and use your best judgement :3. Nobody can see whats going on inside your head, the goal is to do the best you can so that in the real world you minimize harm to the people around you (particularly poc) and maximize your harm to white supremacist systems. Racism is something you do not something you are. You can stop, it is not inevitable. And as a friendly reminder : the people who fund and draft the legal and economic systems that enforce white supremacy have names and addresses.
