Alienated and Confused Seraphina

Aw, thank you! That’s so kind of you to say! And I do appreciate your kind words. I put a lot of work into that fic and still am, despite it taking forever to actually get an update out. And I’m totally fine with people writing fics in the DLU verse or based on it. I do like getting links to stuff people have done, so I can read them and share them with my followers. Getting credit in the author’s note or whatever is also appreciated. Really, my main hard-and-fast thing, though, is don’t write porn or fetish-y stuff based on my fics. I have a lot of minors who read and enjoy my work, and I wouldn’t want them to stumble upon a fic that was inspired by mine featuring adult content. For the Dark Dedede/DMK deal, see below the cut.

So DMK and Dedede were basically childhood friends, and Dedede chose not to join the rebellion specifically because he liked DMK and thought he was a good person, who was unable to really be good because of the situation he was born in. And Dedede felt like leaving DMK alone without any real friends (excluding Shadow) would eventually make DMK a monster like Dark Mind. In Dedede’s mind, of course, DMK would be awful if he didn’t have people around who loved him. So Dedede and DMK grew up pretty much doing everything together, and after DMK took the throne, they married for political reasons. Dedede’s mother was leading the rebellion against DMK, who basically reasoned, ‘hey, I like your son. He’s my best friend. I’ll marry him to prove that you and your followers will have a say under my reign. And we’ll adopt/choose an heir eventually.’

And their marriage...kind of did that. There were some outliers who weren’t thrilled, but generally, the rebellious factions of the Mirror World were willing to give DMK a chance. So it wasn’t that they really wanted to get married; it was politically convenient. But they’re still best friends. There’s some plot stuff going on with them, which is why Dedede is often absent. And Dedede actually really likes Daroach, based on what DMK has said about him. While Dedede doesn’t really need or even want friends, he knows that DMK really does, so Dedede generally tries to encourage DMK in his friendships. Also, DMK has a very broad interpretation of “friend” which is probably more like “most likely not going to stab me in my sleep.” So DMK would sincerely consider Meta to be his friend, even if that feeling isn’t entirely mutual. But Daroach is really the first friend to a.) mutually click with DMK and really like him back and b.) not also have this horrible past of trying to survive a terrible dictator in a war-torn kingdom.

But if you’re asking because you’re going for a polyamorous angle (which quite a few other people have actually asked me about), Dedede probably wouldn’t be that romantically interested in Daroach. I don’t think Dedede is even that romantically interested in DMK. I could see Dedede and Daroach easily becoming friends, though. And I don’t know if I’ll end up doing it myself, but I could also see DMK being in a polyamorous relationship with both Dedede and Daroach. 

It warms my heart that someone is checking in on me. I’m just...I don’t know. I’m just really perpetually exhausted; I guess. And I don’t know if I’m depressed, just burnt out, or both. And I’ve also had all this really serious family drama happen. But it’s this sort of exhausted feeling that I can’t quite seem to put into words. I’ve felt that way for about two years now, so I think it really may just be stress. 

So you have the most impeccable timing because I was looking at referencing this again soon. I’m so slow at updates, I genuinely thought people might’ve forgotten this. Also, because people have been asking, I’m looking at picking DLU up again once the semester ends.

I’m restless and depressed because I can’t leave my house. (I have bad asthma and low immunity, which are...a bad combination). I’m used to commuting twenty hours a week and walking all over campus, so it’s unsettling to be home. And I’m frustrated and worried because I have to move all my classes online, and I have no experience teaching online. So I worry my students will pay the price for that.

So I had to wait for tech support to come to my classroom, and in the meanwhile, I had a guest speaker come and talk briefly to my students about study abroad, and after she left, I asked my students to write about what she said. When they were done, I took their papers.

I crumbled some of the papers up and said stuff like, ‘oh! That one was lost at sea!’ and ‘oh! That one was buried with someone!’ And I even ripped a few up and said stuff like, ‘this was destroyed by Crusaders during the Middle Ages!’ To show how history works. Sometimes, things get lost, details gets dropped, wrong texts get put together, etc.

And THEN I started talking about Victorians going on “archaeological” expeditions but in a really bad British accent. 

So anyway. Tech support guy arrived, stepping over a mound of torn papers with me still throwing papers in the air and exclaiming, “There’s nothing to do in England, but The Iliad is my favorite book! I’m going to Greece and going to blow stuff up until I find Troy!” In a bad British man’s accent.

It isn’t rude! It’s something you like, and you want to know about it. That’s understandable. I am still doing them, but they’re not necessarily at the top of my priority list? So I’m not opposed to doing requests about Kirby YouTube, but right now, I kind of want to put most of my emphasis on trying to catch up my fanfics and answering fanfic requests.
