List of animes I recommend for people with anxiety! (Warning: tons of cute ahead)
Hey! So I noticed a lot of anime now is… well, stressful to watch. Things like Death Note and Devilman Crybaby are on the rise. But some of us just wanna sit down and watch something super cute, right? Something to get us away from the harsh world.
Well that my friend is why this list exists! These are just a few animes that I like and find non-emotionally threatening(aka it doesn’t stress me the fuck out).
Note: most of these will be rather cutesy and not very serious. If that’s not your shtick, sorry :/
Love Live is an idol anime, about girls whose dream is to enter the “Love Live School Idol Project” competition. This one is super funny and cutesy, and I really love it! But it also teaches important lessons on working hard, trying your best, and being true to yourself and your friends.
This anime has a few seasons of each. There’s the original Love Live! series, and then there’s it’s predecessor, Love Live! Sunshine!! This is one of those animes where you will undoubtedly choose 1 or 2 favorite characters.
Aikatsu stars is another idol anime that takes place at Four Star school for those who want to pursue lives on the stage. The series follows Yume Nijino, a happy go lucky girl who wants nothing more than to be like her idols, the girl group S4. Especially the singer, Hime. As the series goes on, it goes slowly from an anime where everything is a breeze for her, to something more challenging. They also were smart not to introduce characters right away, so there’s always someone new just around the corner.
The anime is normally in 2d, but when they transform for the stage, it goes into stunning and we’ll made CG. The one fault I have with this show is the fact that for a while, they use the same song for 3 performances in a row… (I don’t fault you if you eventually start to skip over ones you’ve already seen. I do that too)
This anime has TONS OF episodes and can easily be found on youtube, uploaded in English Sub all in a row.
Now this one is a little more emotionally challenging in the beginning but I assure you, it’s WORTH it. This anime is about a highschool boy who claims he is average in every way. However, as the series goes on, it’s revealed he loves Pompompurin, a sanrio puppy character modeled after pudding… and struggling with how “unmanly” and weak he might be seen as. He soon meets Shunsuke and Yuu(pictured above), two other boys who love sanrio characters(Yuu loves My Melody, Shunsuke loves Hello Kitty). This anime not only has funny moments and cute moments, but also battles Toxic Masculinity at its very core.
This anime is fresh out of the woodwork, with only a few episodes out and releasing every week!
If you like animes that are cute but also make almost no sense and can make you laugh at the absurdity of it all, this show is for you! Nichijou was my first real jump back into anime after my long 2-3 year hiatus. It’s funny, features cute characters, and oh boy is there tons and tons of jokes ahead. This doesn’t quite have too much of a plot going on, but it at least has a sense of coherency, as time progresses.
This is a rather short anime (in my opinion cause I binge watch) with about 20-30 episodes. It works more like a sitcom in many ways, but without the cheesy sitcom stigma, and ACTUAL humor in place of it.
Okay, so Gudetama isn’t REALLY an anime perse, it’s more of a series of shorts by Sanrio, but it’s still super cute! Sanrio came out with a brand new character over the last couple of years, Gudetama. The lazy egg. He’s cute and lazy and adorably lovable, and it’s rather calming to watch after a long day in my opinion! He doesn’t really have episodes but you can see all the shorts gathered together into one long video on youtube.
Thanks for reading, I think that’s all for now! I’ll add to this list as I discover new anime. Choco out!
