“Nooooo, are you crazy? I can’t do that! My parents would kill me. Plus I worked hard for this job.”

“Why not?”

“Ask Ray! I’ve done my part and i’ve got my alibis. I have no reason to lie.“ 

“Needing an alibi in the first place doesn’t bode great for your innocence.”

“Oh honey, I never lie. It’s a true story,”

“On a camel? I mean where do you even find a camel?”

“I think it’s the safest one,” 

“And the unsafe one?”

“That they’re amazing! I have some standards when it comes to picking friends, you know.“ Luke was completely smittened. “You don’t know who she is?“

“Damn, that went dark fast. I don’t know. I feel like I would make a kickass warlock. Luke, the badass leader of the Corvinus clan. Necrophiliac panty dropper,“ he joked.

“Well, consider me honored.” Rachel snorted, “No, but by your tone I feel like I should.”

“That’s the story you’re sticking with?” She took a long sip of her beer and stole a piece of the pretzel. 

“Yeah and you love it,” he laughed. “She wasn’t wifey anyways. I have my heart set out on someone special. I’m just bidin’ my time.“

“I don’t remember, your mom never did call me back.“

“Yeah, and what does that say about my taste in friends?” She shook her head. “Nimble or wolf?”

She had spent most of the day setting up her camp, wanting to be done by the time night fell. Selene had figured that she was out far enough into the woods that no one would just stumble upon her and ruin what was supposed to be a peaceful and serene night. She was getting settled behind her telescope, when she heard the tell tell noises of someone or something nearby. She turned and looked around, “Hello?” She wasn’t exactly thrilled about having something moving around in the dark in the woods. 

Rachel froze at the sound of the woman’s voice, unsure of where to go next. As she moved closer towards the clearing she saw a blonde woman with a giant telescope. She crept closer towards the edge of the forest, but remained hidden.

   “I’ll be more than happy to help.”

  “Do you need any help?”

“Thanks.” Aisling slid around her. “I like to hang out every once in a while. It’s been a bit since I’ve done it last.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” he nodded. It always pleased him when others thought that too, it seemed a rare opinion to find in the modern day. At her exclamation Helenus quickly stopped and turned to see what was the matter. He wasn’t overly surprised to find Paris now sat on the floor staring up at the vampire. “Ah, sorry about him, he does have a habit of sneaking up on people,” he crouched and scooped the cat up into his arms, “Are you ok with cats?” he asked, knowing full well not everyone was. 

Rachel nodded and reached out a hand to let the cat smell her. “Yeah, I’m fine with them. It was like he came out of nowhere.” She scratched the cat’s ear once he had smelt her. “He doesn’t scratch any of the books?”

“Oh no.“ Emmett said automatically in a monotone was a reaction but not truly caring. “I think there’s a mated compass down here, right? If the cat means that much to you, I’m sure they’ll help out.“

Rachel glared at him and his tone. “And you think she’ll care? Most people have been trying to kill her since my friend found her.”

“What do you mean she’s missing?!“

Rachel’s head whipped around when she saw Dan. “I went to find you and your door was open. I don’t know who opened it, but I’ve been trying to find Melissa since.”

“I mean exactly what I said - you’ve been hexed,” he frowned at her, wondering what there had been to question about the statement.

“How do you know?”
