If it were entirely up to the gearheads, Jade's mech would be situated on something more like tank treads to better facilitate mobility even with the extreme weight it's burdened by with all its munitions and armor.
Jade wanted a cat-themed mech. Because she likes cats. And given it was one of the first expressions of her personality that she developed, they realized it was going to be a very strong desire. So she was allowed to have a cat mecha, despite the fact that it reduced its mobility to near-zero.
Sometimes, even the replaceable clone pilots need to have their aesthetic desires met so they'll actually do their job.

At the end of the day, my first experience with Dark Souls 1 really poisoned the well for me. Like, the tutorial area went perfectly fine. I understood the mechanics, I got the general gist of "Don't fight the giant monster with a broken sword", everything was peachy keen up to that point. I enjoy being challenged, it's not the difficulty I had an issue with.
When the game drops you off and has you facing a particular way once you have control again, I feel like it's not too much of a stretch to say that the way you're facing is generally assumed to be the way you should go, yeah?
Except when I just went forward, I ended up dying to skeletons that whooped my ass again and again. But that was the way I was being pointed to by the camera, so clearly that's the way I was supposed to go, right?
It wasn't until later that I learned that apparently, you're supposed to turn around and go the other way. Which. Is not how game design works. Again, the player is going to naturally assume the way they were facing once they have control again is the way they're supposed to go, presuming they can actually travel that way.
Apologies if things really did improve in later Dark Souls games, but that one, singular experience has eternally tainted my view of Fromsoft's game design. To say nothing of that one interview clip I saw where Miyazaki said that he'd been begged to not put in any more poison swamps into Elden Ring because people hated them, then said "I did it anyways because I think it's funny" or smth like that. Really just. Did not do me any favors on my opinion of the design philosophy behind these games.
You know. Between Code Vein and now Dolls Nest, I'm beginning to think that it's not so much the Soulsbourne-style formula that I don't enjoy, but Fromsoft's design philosophy in particular. Maybe it's changed up since the last time I played one of their games, who knows, but my experience with Fromsoft's Soulsbourne games has been entirely negative. But anyone else making a Soulsbourne-like? Apparently I can get very much into it.
It sure is a good thing her vocoder only barely inferred tone, because in trying to be nice, Sparrow had inadvertently embarassed herself in noting Jade's arousal. Not that that she let go. It was a bit of a connundrum. She herself liked the affection. Not the...erection, but still.
[G-Glad to know you're healthy too?] And it made her jokes stink too.
"Flattered? So, it's a good thing?" Jade, of course, completely failed to get the meaning behind it. Even as she began to slowly grind up against Sparrow, that mostly seemed to be an idle thing because it just felt kinda good. Like the hug. ...And that really sold just how huge it was, tucked away in her dress and leggings instead of her compression bodysuit.
"Mn. The doctors make sure I'm healthy." Again. Right over her head. Sparrow may need to help her, here.
Y'all already know Jade's deal, so I'm not gonna bother going into her details. But I'll give the general low-down on the others and their mechs below the cut.
Pearl-086 and her M-32 Tactical Vanguard Mech "Meteor Hare" (just imagine the above mech, but painted white), specializing in mobility and hit-and-run tactics, primarily moving in first, distracting the enemy with brief engagements to distract or weaken targets for the rest of the squad to handle. However, this also leaves her mech with the weakest armor of the bunch to facilitate her increased movement speed and agility, and as a result, has the second-highest "replacement" count, only behind Sapphire whose job is significantly more dangerous.
Pearl is the clone soldier you could consider Jade's best friend, as she's frequently the one advising the less-savvy girl on various topics if staff aren't available. This is less due to them meshing well, though, and more because Pearl is typically considered the field leader of the squad and often takes charge whenever they group together on or off the battlefield and no handler is directing them.
Ruby-074 and her F-88 Armored Assault Mech "Diabolus Titan" (again, the above, but red), as the second-most armored mech of the squad, only behind Jade's Leo Regnas. Once Pearl has distracted the enemy, it's Ruby's role to hit them as hard as possible, coming in and keeping the attention on her and the tactics centered around how she forces the enemy to avoid her attacks lest they take heavy damage in a single shot, or having her focus on taking down defenses.
Ruby herself is as hot-blooded as her red color scheme implies, and though you might think she'd prefer to get into the fight as quickly as possible with a faster mech, Ruby actually enjoys forcing their alien enemies to dance around her or get blown to kingdom come. She's also far more intelligent than her passionate nature might lead some to believe, and she actually helps the hangar crew work on her mech if she gets a chance, having the most know-how with mechanical things.
Sapphire-095 and her C-39 Close-Range Strike Mech "Frozen Valkyrie" (with light blue paint job), whose job is to capitalize on openings given by Ruby's assault and punch a hole in the enemy's defenses or cripple the enemy with a precise strike that is easier to land in melee with her mech's plasma axe. This job is easily the most dangerous, as evidenced by her higher replacement count, especially given that, while Frozen Valkyrie isn't as lightly-armored as Pearl or Amethyst's mechs, it also can't have the same bulky armor as Jade's or Ruby's in order to maintain the mobility it needs to get into melee.
Sapphire herself is easily the most "ornery" of the squad, as her high death count has gradually made her the most vindictive and begrudging of her role in the squad - an attitude that's especially notable with her rivalry with Pearl, who is often left to take charge despite the fact that Sapphire believes she deserves it for how much more "suffering" she endures and how dangerous her job is. In essence, she's the coldest and most irritable due to feeling like she's not given the due she's owed for her work.
Amethyst-062 and her H-46 All-Range Mobile Mech "Whisper Centurion" (lavender paint job), the most versatile machine of the squad. Amethyst's role is flexible, as she and her mech are intended to fill any necessary jobs on the battlefield as they come up that the others are ill-suited or too busy to handle. She doesn't hit as hard as Ruby, doesn't move as quickly as Pearl, doesn't have the range of Jade, and isn't as dangerous in close quarters as Sapphire, but she has all the tools necessary to make do in a pinch or lend support to the others as needed.
Amethyst herself is stoic much like Jade, yet less because she doesn't "get" socialization like Jade, and more just because she's a very logical person. Despite this, she's easy to pressure by people with strong enough personalities, and as a result tends to get "bullied" into siding with Sapphire in any given dispute, making her come across as something of Sapphire's "yes-woman".

Jade honestly isn't thinking too hard about it. She likes the softness and the warmth; it's a lot comfier than the cold alloys she's surrounded by on a regular basis. Even her bunk in the barracks isn't this soft.
...Something's poking Sparrow?
"Mn? I dunno, what's..." She pauses as she looks down. Oh, it's that again. She never quite understands why that happens.
"Oh. That happens sometimes. Dr. Anshir usually makes it settle down, but she's not here..."
The grisly job of return and rescue teams with the mech pilots on Avalon-VII is a job with fairly high turnover, given few people can work it for long. Sure, it's ostensibly work meant to reclaim damaged mechs and salvage what they can if need be, but that also inevitably means dragging the corpses of the pilots from the cockpits, in various states of "damage", so that what remains of the mech can be reused.
There's been enough tales of shaken operators pulling the bodies out, only to swear that the corpses were staring right at them that there's something of a superstition around the crews that the clones still retain some semblance of awareness even after death. This, despite the fact that scans indicate that the brains, bodies, and cybernetics have totally ceased function...
@darksideofthelewd: "...the latter..." Yuuka says quietly, blushing and clinging to the sensei tighter. She really wants to have time with her sensei...desperately, even...must be a day she absolutely wants to take advantage of with her...
"Well, then let's use the break room nearby." Her office is a no-go; she's pretty sure the locks don't even work any more, and there's likely at least a dozen hidden cameras and microphones in it. There is zero chance that her office can be considered "private", any more.
So, instead, Byleth leads Yuuka to the aforementioned break room, locks the door and closes the blinds. She then proceeds to sit on one of the couches before patting her lap.
"Here, Yuuka. Let me show you my appreciation for you properly."
Yuuka's going to cling needily to her Sensei's arm, soft breasts pressing into her as she's silent, but obviously wanting her attention~
"Hm?" Eisner-sensei is just checking her phone as she walks to her office when she hears someone approach, before feeling the telltale pressure of someone clinging to her - and the explicit softness around her bicep that threatens to cause a growth in her skirt.
"...Ahaha, feeling needy today, Yuuka? Do you just want my attention for now... or do you want to find someplace quiet to duck into?" Either way, her arm curls around the treasurer's waist without hesitation. How cute you are, Yuuka.
Ya girl got all of 5 hours of sleep because, like an idiot, she stayed up until 7:30 in the morning, then woke up around an hour ago and couldn't fall back asleep
