Not only did you notice this, but the whole school did, too.

Jessica, damn her soul, was at the head of the rumor mill, spinning far-fetched stories about you and Jasper being secret lovers. If punching someone, much less a girl, wouldn’t get you expelled or possibly arrested, Jessica would have been target number one.

You tried to keep your anger in check, especially when the whole school (students and staff alike) kept staring at you and Jasper like you were part of some soap opera. But one rumor, in particular, pushed you over the edge.

“I’m not a sugar baby!” you hissed at Jessica when she tried to strike up a conversation about the nonexistent gifts Jasper was supposedly giving you. “What bullshit gave you that idea?”

“He gave you a pencil—”

“Oh, fuck off and shove that pencil—” You couldn’t finish that sentence as the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch and the beginning of fourth period. Jessica just waved goodbye and scurried off, knowing your temper wouldn’t be stopped by a bell. Huffing, you made your way to history class, where, lo and behold, Jasper was already seated, a grin on his face.

As the class dragged on, you couldn’t keep ignoring Jasper or the hushed whispers of the other students. His grin never faltered, and neither did the feeling of his gaze burning into you.

Screw it.

Without waiting for the teacher to finish his lecture on some historical battle you couldn’t care less about, you stood up abruptly.

“Out.” you muttered, grabbing Jasper by the arm with a grip that brooked no argument. Jasper, taken aback, allowed you to drag him to his feet. A low murmur rippled through the class, but you didn’t care. You were done playing around.

You hauled his ass out the classroom, ignoring the teacher’s confused calls after you, and pulled him down the hallway to the nearest janitor's closet. You shoved the door open, pushed him inside, and slammed it shut behind you. The tiny space was dimly lit and filled with the scent of cleaning supplies, but you didn’t let the cramped quarters intimidate you. Instead, you crowded Jasper back against a shelf, glaring up at him.

“Alright, Hale,” you snapped, eyes blazing. “I’m sick of the staring, the lurking, and the creepy smiles. What's your deal? Are you trying to get under my skin or are you just that bored?”

For a moment, Jasper didn’t respond. Then, slowly, that infuriatingly calm smile spread across his lips.

“You know,” he drawled, his voice like honey dripping off a knife, “for someone who claims not to care, you seem awfully worked up about it.”

“Cut the crap,” you growled, slamming your palm against the shelf beside his head. “You’ve been following me around like some kind of deranged puppy and I want to know why. And don’t you dare feed me some bullshit line about coincidence.”

Jasper’s smile faded. “Maybe some of the rumors are true,” he admitted. “Maybe I do want to get to know you better.”

The words surprised you. You’d expected deflection, but this was something else. You narrowed your eyes. “Get to know me? And what exactly does that mean?”

“It means,” Jasper continued, his gaze meeting yours head-on, “that you’re different from the others. You don’t fawn over us like we’re gods, and you’re not afraid to speak your mind. It’s refreshing.”

You snorted. “So, what? You think acting like a creep is the way to get my attention? Newsflash, Hale: it’s not working.”

His lips twitched, almost like he was holding back a laugh. “Oh, I don’t know. It got you to drag me in here, didn’t it?”

That did it. You reached out, grabbed the front of his shirt, and pulled him closer, your faces mere inches apart. “Listen to me. If you want to know me, try acting like a normal person instead of some stalker freak. Got it?”

Jasper didn't reply immediately, just stared at you before his gaze briefly flicked to your lips. “Got it.” he murmured, a reverent expression crossing his face that confused the hell out of you. You let go of him, expecting him to step back, but he didn’t. He stayed right where he was, not seeming at all bothered by the confined space or your proximity.

“Just so we’re clear, I’m not giving up. I’m still going to try to get to know you, whether you like it or not.”

Feeling a mix of frustration and something you didn’t want to name, you turned around and opened the door. “Fine, but try anything like this again, and I won’t be so nice.”

Jasper chuckled, that damn smile creeping back onto his face. “Deal, but somehow, I think you like a little chaos.”

Emmett Cullen

The rain pattered gently against the windowpane, a soft symphony that filled the air of the Cullen home. Outside, the usual gray skies of Forks loomed heavy, but inside the grand house, there was a warmth that belied the chill.

You peered nervously around the spacious living room, your heart fluttering like a caged bird. Today was the day you would meet Emmett’s family, the infamous Cullens—and you had no idea what to expect.

Emmett stood beside you, his muscular arm brushed against yours as if to anchor you to the moment. He flashed you that charming, toothy grin that made your heart race. His presence exuded both strength and warmth, and his laughter had a sweetness that lulled your anxiety.

“Relax, babe! They’re going to love you.”

He reassured, leaning down to plant a soft kiss on your forehead.

“And trust me, Rosalie already likes you, it’s basically a done deal.”

Emmett’s sister Rosalie was known for her beauty and a no-nonsense attitude, but you had already connected with her through brief conversations.

The way she cooed and fawned over your one-year-old—gently combing her fingers through the tiny baby’s hair—revealed a softer side that you found enchanting.

As you waited, the door creaked open, allowing a shadow to spill into the room. Alice bounded in, her petite figure a whirl of energy. She spotted you immediately and squealed with delight.

“There she is! The beautiful human who stole my brother’s heart!”

Alice exclaimed, her voice like bells. She rushed over, enveloping you in a warm hug before stepping back to take you in.

“And look at your little one!”

With a gleeful shriek, she turned her attention to the baby nestled in your arms, her dark eyes glinting with affection.

“Oh, I need to buy her ALL the outfits! Wait I think mom has something from when I was a baby-”

She declared, her hands already reaching for imaginary fabric swatches as she dove into fashion fantasies.

You couldn’t help but laugh at Alice’s enthusiasm. Her excitement was contagious, your anxiety slowly melting away.

“She has enough clothes, but thank you so much.”

You chided playfully, cradling your baby closer.

Just then, Rosalie entered with a soft breeze, her presence immediately commanding attention. She glided across the room, all grace and poise. But when she reached your side, her demeanor softened, and you felt her genuine warmth.

“Hello dear, wow you look so beautiful today”

Rosalie cooed, glancing up at you with sincerity in her eyes.

You smiled and felt your cheeks flush.

“Thank you, Rosalie.”

Her approval meant the world, and you could see why Emmett adored her.

As more of the Cullen clan trickled in, including Carlisle, Edward, Jasper and Esme with their welcoming smiles, the atmosphere of camaraderie enveloped you.

Each member of the family shared little quirks that made you feel like a part of their peculiar world.

With every passing moment, laughter filled the air. You told stories about your life as Emmett teased you in affectionate ways, giving his siblings a glimpse into the human experience you cherished.

The living room transformed into a cozy hub of shared laughter and warm glances. Rosalie, who had perched next to you with your baby on her lap, regaled everyone with tales of motherhood that you had never imagined coming from her.

Alice was right there, capturing every precious moment with a quick snap of her camera, while Jasper stood off to the side, content to absorb the joy around him with a smile.

“Let me tell you, taking care of a little one is like preparing for a battle. They have these tiny weapons called tantrums.”

Rosalie said with a mock seriousness, sending everyone into fits of laughter again.

You chuckled, sharing in the warmth of the moment. As you looked around, you felt an overwhelming sense of belonging rush over you. This strange family, these vampires who moved in shadows and light, felt closer than you ever imagined they could.

Suddenly, Emmett cleared his throat dramatically, silencing the room.

“I propose a toast-”

He declared, lifting an imaginary glass.

“To my gorgeous girlfriend and her equally adorable daughter! May they both shine brighter than the sun!”

You blushed, glancing down at your baby who giggled at her father’s antics, her laughter harmonious with the family’s supportive cheers. Each member followed suit, sharing warm sentiments about you, a flood of love that made your heart swell.

As the evening wore on, you caught moments of quiet intimacy with Emmett. He would sneak in small kisses and whispered compliments, adding to the warmth bubbling inside you.

“Can you believe this is really happening?”

He murmured, leaning close.

“You’re amazing, you know that? I can’t wait for more days like this.”

His words filled you with joy, and as you gazed into his loving eyes, you felt a connection that seemed to penetrate the boundaries of time and space.

Later, when the rain poured harder outside, creating a soothing cadence against the windows, Alice cornered you again, her playful demeanor ever-present.

“I think Rosalie and I should take you shopping tomorrow—after all, you and your baby need to be the best-dressed in Forks!”

You grinned at the idea, the thought of spending time with Alice and Rosalie bringing you a sense of eagerness.

“That sounds like a lot of fun!”

As the night concluded, you felt enveloped in comfort, the weight of the world slipping away. You looked around at the family who had welcomed you with open arms and felt grateful in every sense.

Outside, the rain began to taper off, and a sliver of moonlight broke through the clouds, casting a soft glow on the house. You realized that this was just the beginning of an incredible journey, one that would intertwine your life with Emmett's and his beautiful family—a tapestry woven in love, laughter, and a tiny bit of chaos.

With a smile on your face and warmth in your heart, you knew you had found your place in this twilight realm—forever cherished in the embrace of love and family.

“EM!” she yelled around her pacifier, the word slightly muffled. Little brown jump dress fluttering around her cute chubby legs. Emmett didn’t hesitate as he lifted her into his arms effortlessly, swinging her around and basking in the uncontrollable giggles that rocked through her little body. 

He had definitely become more comfortable with her since their first meeting and she was just as attached to the large vampire as you were. Her childish giggles and squeals filled the air as you smiled, stuffing your phone into your purse.

“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” you asked as you approached Emmett, pecking his cheek. “I can still call Veronica. It would cost a little extra since it’s a week day, but I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.”

“Relax baby,” he beamed. “We’re gonna have a blast!” You trusted Emmett completely. But that didn’t stop the small niggle in the back of your mind. This was the first time he was looking after (t/n) alone. You didn’t think anything bad would happen, but you also knew that (t/n) could be a cute handful at the best of times. “Don’t worry, I got her.” The grin remained in place but the reassurance in his eyes was enough to stop the niggle for now. 

“Alright,” You smiled. “I should be home by eight. I’m only covering this one shift then I’ll be home. Numbers are on the fridge, you’ve got mine. Call for anything you need. Bed time at seven, if she makes it that long,” You eyed the softly cooing toddler in your boyfriend’s massive arms, her hands patting his pale cheeks. “Thank you.” you finished as Emmett leaned down to peck you on the lips. You waved bye to (t/n) pecking her head before slipping out and into your car. You’d only be gone for a couple of hours. 

Emmett had energy. He was the epitome of energy in the Cullen family. Games, he was there. Sports, he was first in line. Competitions, sign him up. But this was almost more energy than he could take. 

From dolls,  to dressing up in the pink tutu and fairy wings (t/n) had thrust in his direction, to the teddies she had stacked precariously in his lap babbling in toddler speak as she moved each one individually. He was sure she was naming them in her own language, not that he’d ever be able to work out what their names were. So instead, he had settled for just nodding and replying as if he did and she didn’t seem bothered by that. She had then rushed off to her toybox and tugged out the plastic food and began throwing them around the little pop up kitchen you had at the doorway of your kitchen. 

Emmett had gratefully taken the plan with a smile and a polite thank you when she handed them to him. She stared at him expectantly, just as she had in the daycare that day. 

“Oh,” he muttered and lifted the plastic egg to his mouth, moving his lips and mimicking a biting motion. “Mmmm.” He smiled. 

“Ba na baba.” (T/n) asked, tilting her head to the side. 

“Yummy,” he replied with a thumbs up. He could hear her little rapid heart fluttering as she smiled with a happy squeal and ran back to the plastic food. “You know, this would be great with some sausages,” he gestured to the plastic and concerningly pale sausages. She grabbed them shaking her head with a little frown. “Or not,” he muttered. She reached for a plastic avocado and chucked it in the little oven, slamming the plastic door and tapping the plates with her fingers. Emmett’s nose crinkled slightly, he had never understood the appeal of an avocado. You said it tasted strange, too grassy, but, like the good babysitter he was, he pretended to enjoy the plastic food with a smile and a thumbs up. Anything to hear (t/n)’s little happy squeal again. 

It wasn’t until (t/n)’s little hand tapped at her lips repeatedly whilst her other hand pointed to the kitchen did Emmett realise it was snack time. On your fridge was the full list of times and snacks that you gave (t/n).

“Na na na,” she repeated as he lifted her into the highchair by the dining table. 

“That’s right, banana.” He held up the banana like a gun and waved it around as she giggled. He smiled and began mashing the banana with a fork, making sure there weren’t any lumps that she could choke on and grabbed one of the little plastic spoons from the drawer. It was pink with a little crown carved into the end of it. Emmett had watched you feed (t/n) countless times before. You always fed her some first before (t/n) wanted to do it on her own and then you’d hand her the spoon and let her shovel it into her mouth herself. She was still quite clumsy and could never quite fill up the spoon enough to become a choking hazard, and she usually ended up with more on her than there was in her mouth. 

What Emmett hadn’t anticipated was the spoonfuls of mashed banana that would come flying towards him, landing ungracefully on his shirt with a splodge. “Hey!” he chuckled. “This is supposed to go in here, bee, not on me,” His fingertip nudged her bottom lip as she squealed. He grabbed a tissue to wipe his shirt, dropping it into the bin as he wiped at the wet patch with a damp cloth. “I just had a seven course meal in the living room, no bananas for me thank you.” (T/n) munched on the last of her banana, a cheeky smile on her face, dimples popping out and then held up her plastic spoon waving it above her head. 

Emmett gently took it from her fingers with a ‘thank you’ and dropped both it and the bowl into the sink to rinse out. Then stepped closer to take a look at the mess on the little munchkin. 

“I think we need to change your clothes, bee, mine too.” he muttered, taking in the banana now covering her little jump dress in dark splotches. “What did Mama leave out for you, huh?” He carefully lifted the toddler into his arms again and hopped up the steps into (t/n)’s room. Just as he suspected, you, his perfectly organized girlfriend had already prepared, leaving out a little hoodie and shorts for (t/n) on the dresser as well as her bed clothes next to it. “Would you look at that, Mama’s one step ahead again.” He mumbled. It was barely six, so Emmett opted for the hoodie and shorts. He gently battled with her kicking legs and squirming body as he tickled her sides, sliding her into the change of clothes and dumping the old, banana covered ones in the wash basket by the bathroom. 

Placing her back on her feet, (t/n) wandered over to the book shelf, a small basket sitting at the bottom filled with an array of picture books. Her fingers gripped around the spine of one of the books, carrying it over to Emmett as she pushed her thumb between her lips and stood in front of where he was sitting on the floor. In the time he had known (t/n) he found out that her favourite place to sit was in his lap. She would just walk over and climb up, taking her rightful space. He took the book from her grip and she dropped down into his lap, her little head resting against his hard chest. He didn’t open the book straight away, waiting for her little body to get comfortable against him. He knew he wasn’t the ideal seat, but by now (t/n) knew how to get comfortable on him. She shuffled a little, head rubbing against his chest, and then she settled, her small hand tapping the front cover of the book. Emmett chuckled.

“Alright, here we go,” He opened the cover and scanned the first page. “Don’t you go falling asleep now, bee. Got another hour before bed time and I can't let you wake Mama up early or she’ll get cranky,” he joked. “Right, Where the Wild Things Are…”

The keys jingled in your hands as you locked your car and headed towards the house. The porch light was on and illuminated the house in the darkness. It was eight-thirty, you felt bad. You had stayed for a short time to help clear up after the last customers left, one of the newbies had dropped a plate of food right near closing and there was some glass still scattered. You hadn’t been there for that long, but it still added some time after you had told Emmett you’d be home. You hadn’t intentionally left him alone with (t/n) for longer, and you knew he wouldn’t mind, but you still felt bad. Unlocking the door, there was the gentle hum of the living room tv and the faint light of the lamps. You slipped your jacket off your shoulders and hung it on the peg. 

“Babe?” you called gently. “You okay? Sorry I was late,” You dropped your bag onto the little side table. “Jerrie dropped a tray and there was glass everywhere-” the words died in your throat as you stepped into the living room. Curled up sweetly, thumb stuck between lips, there laid (t/n) all tucked up in Emmett’s arms, face smushed against his chest, eyes closed gently. Emmett’s eyes looked over at you as he smiled. 

“Babe- we bonded.” He grinned, his voice barely above a whisper. “It was great we played - she has so many toys - we ate together, had mushy bananas - she wanted to share but my clothes caught it for me. And then we read a book,” he beamed. “She was out like a light. She had a great time, me too.” You stepped closer with a small smile, ignoring the room laying disarray with a variety of toys splayed across the floor and furniture. A bomb had gone off, but that didn’t matter to you. Bonding was important. 

“I can see that,” You giggled, pulling a small pink heart sticker carefully out of his hair. “You okay?”

“Me? I’m super, baby!” he smiled as you pecked his lips, careful not to jostle (t/n). “You need a babysitter, sign me up,” He looked down at the sleeping toddler, soundless against his chest. “Just no avocados next time, okay?” You giggled nodding. You settled down on the sofa beside him, toeing off your shoes and resting your head on Emmett’s shoulder. Your hand reached out to brush (t/n)’s hair out of her face. 

“She’s pooped,” you muttered. 

“I mean, I’m pretty sure she showed me everything she owns.” Emmett chuckled. “She’s sweet. Definitely a hostess in the making. She played with me, fed me, and even shared a story. What more could you want?” He twisted his head to peck your forehead. “You’re doing great Mama.” Your cheeks warmed at his words. 

Despite not saying anything, you knew he knew. You knew he sensed every time you questioned your actions. Every time you wondered if you were raising her in the right way. Every time you looked at the other parents at day care, wondering if they were judging you for being a single parent. You’d never say it out loud, you’d never kick yourself while you were raising a little baby all on your own. It was a colossal task, but you’d keep doing it every single day, even if just to see the way her eyes sparkled when you read her a story or the way she danced when you had the tv on the music channel while you cleaned. 

“Thanks,” you mumble. “I wouldn’t change her for the world.” Your eyes fluttered closed as the exhaustion of the day seeped through your body. 

For once it was silent, peaceful and here you were with the two people you loved the most. 

“Baby?” you hummed in response. “How do I move without waking her?” your lips twitched up into a sleepy smile. 

“You can’t,” you snuggled deeper into his side. ”I guess you're stuck here.”  There was a pause. 

“Good, wouldn’t wanna be anywhere else.”
