I thought about Daryl’s severely bruised psyche recently,too.Daryl simply needs the time.It’s not only about the slowburn,it is basically about him in the first place.He needs to build every fundamental thing a child learns naturally and effortless at an older adult age.Basic social skills.sense of basic trust.confidence.It’s difficult now.Takes time.He is like a crumpled white piece of paper that needs to be straightened out (with a lot of effort) first,before you can write on it.And the first one to “write”on him and leave a positive impression was Carol.It felt good,so he subconsciously wanted more.So she is the reason he needed to even try and build his life.He was on the verge of leaving in S2,but he didn’t because of Carol.

She is literally every fucking thing he needs.She is like balsam for literally every wound that lies deep within his soul. She is like an antithesis and antidote to his past. She NEVER judged him.

Guess why he is so fiercely protective of her.Why every other thing stands back for him when it comes to Carol.Is there any better profound reason to love somebody? ( Oh right,he can’t love her,because she has grey hair….! really,wtf.This is not only ridiculous but criminally shallow on top! )

This has to be the strongest and purest maximum stability relationship I have ever seen. Two abuse survivors involved! Their connection is a miracle,and so is their development on their own.

Season 7 has shown a matured Daryl.And we saw him yet again hellbent on protecting Carol.He is protective of his family in general.BUT.And this is important: 710 made clear that he would even sacrifice the chances of the group for Carol’s wellbeing.He would sacrifice everything for her. Only for her.

This lovestory makes so much sense it simply has to become canon.
