Hi!!! Iām a big fan of this blog and as a Canadian whose interested in investigating specifically Canadian Black History, I wanted to rec Robyn Maynardās Policing Black Lives to all my fellow Canadians!!!
Itās a *very* interesting and through look into how Blackness has been treated in Canada. Some points I found very interesting was how much of Canadian society (and Anti-Blackness) is literally based on āwe canāt be racist! Thatās an *American* problem!ā
Also, we should know Chloe Cooleyās name much more than we do - sheās the one who helped start the end of slavery in Canada by revolting against being sold.

^^ this is a link to the Heritage Minute about her (a short, minute long video about Canadian history produced by the Canadian government that used to play between shows when Cable was really popular)
I really appreciate what you do here and hope you have a good day!
Thank you for sharing! We've definitely had the conversation about Canadians. Did you know there are still people who think there are no Black people living in Canada (except Drake, apparently lmao)?
I hear a lot from our Native American cousins living up there about how it's full of shit fr š and I can believe that. I think every settler colony is full of shit if they say anything about being progressive fr. But let me get off my soapbox.

shout out to black trans men y'all are so fucking awesome and strong and don't let anyone tell you otherwise
Stop just asking "is it normal?" and start asking "is it harming anyone?" Lots of harmful things are normalized in this society and lots of things considered weird or rare are completely harmless. Whether something is considered normal or common shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether it's okay
Like a lot of disabled and neurodivergent and mentally ill ways of living and expressing yourself are both not normal and not harming anyone and it's the last part we should focus our attention on
@heterodox-heterographer you've hit the nail in the head
When you start saying shit like āWe need to put every pedophile in concentration campsā any person in power can convince you that any demographic they want you to hate is a pedophile. You need to kill that shit at the source and stop caring about other peopleās thoughts.
Generally speaking, people who have any kind of knowledge or literacy on the subject of child protection don't use the word "pedophile" at all. If we're talking about an actual offender, label the specific offenses they have committed.
If you're worried about preventing future hypothetical abuse, educate the kids in how to protect themselves. Encourage strong support networks. Tell them what is and isn't appropriate behaviour of adults and kids. Tell them they can say "no".
If you're worried about people becoming "pedophiles," then provide services where people who have inappropriate intrusive thoughts or unhealthy obsessions of any kind can seek help anonymously and without judgement and work through their issues.
But also bear in mind that the people with the aforementioned mental health issues are not necessarily the ones who sexually abuse kids, and many cases of sex offences against kids are not motivated by sexual attraction. Often, like many cases of abuse, it's an expression of power and dominance, or a desire to hurt, humiliate and shame the victim. If you want to stop those people, again, education is key. Teach children about bodily autonomy- their own and others'. Encourage respect for other people, so they grow up knowing they are not entitled to another person's body.
But funnily enough, the people who like to fearmonger about "PEDOPHILES!!!" tend to also be the people who want to keep their children sheltered and ignorant.
Weird, huh?
some of you are painfully unaware that part of the whole reason many kinksters are like "what happens in my or someone else's bedroom is no one else's business"
is because people have been arrested and put in fucking PRISON just for having gay sex in the privacy of their own homes. in the United States. this millennia.
if you think i'm joking, look up Lawrence v. Texas (2003). 14 out of the 50 US States STILL had laws on the books criminalizing sodomy--and yes, you could be imprisoned for multiple years and sometimes even life for repeat offenses.
in the years directly leading up to the landmark case, enforcement even in those 14 states varied, but it was absolutely weaponized against queer people, especially when stacked on top of other offenses to make up a longer sentence.
um so anyway, what happens between two or more consenting adults in the privacy of their own homes is none of my OR YOUR business, and i'm not fucking kidding!

Yeah no sorry but someone being "weird" or "off putting" isn't a good reason to harass them. You feeling the "ick" doesn't mean they deserve to get piled on and told to kill themselves. It says more about you than them if you think they should expect to be bullied for being themselves, actually.
by the way it's fine to like sexual content just for the sake of it. "we can't ban porn because other stuff will get banned" "sometimes nude art has value" "the government will classify queer people as sexual" this is all true but it's okay to just like porn. its okay to not want porn to be banned because you like it.

Yesterday my little brother told me something very sweet and touching, that when he was a kid and had nightmares about monsters chasing him or whatever he would be able to end the nightmare by finding me in the dream and I would protect him by fighting off the zombies, or carrying him away. This is adorable, and makes me feel like the greatest older sibling in the world, but the hilarious thing is that when I was a kid I had nightmares of needing to save him from zombies and such. so many dreams where he was in trouble and I needed to save him. Like my nightmares began where his ended. Low key I think he mastered the ability to psychically transfer his nightmare to me as a child and I'm kind of annoyed with him.
Iām glad that OP:
1) Figured this out.
2) Shared so others can learn from their mistake.
