So this all came about because I was thinking about moving in with my queerplatonic partner and raising children together. And don't get me wrong, I'm going to do that anyway if I want to, but I'm curious if that goes against the "official rules." I haven't found anything in the handbook about it.

Our church doesn't like gay people getting married because marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman. Why? "Because God made it that way to have kids." Okay, whatever.

So why can straight married couples have sex if they aren't doing it to have kids? Shouldn't they not do it recreationally? Can infertile couples never have sex?

And if they can, if it's just a marriage and being straight thing like the Law of Chastity implies, what if a gay asexual couple gets married and has no sex and adopts? That fulfills all the requirements. They're making a family. They aren't having sex.

"Oh, but it's about obedience to the commandment we've been given--" what if I move in with someone of the same gender and do the same things I just said, but don't call it "being married"? What then?

"Well that's just trying to get around the rules, it's about the spirit of the law--" of WHAT law though??? If I'm going to follow the spirit of the law, all I get is "family is important" and none of that leads me to the "no gay marriage" conclusion.

Something that I’ve been thinking about lately is the representation of our Heavenly Parents. In my experience in media and art, they have most often been perceived as white. What if they didn’t have just one color? We were all created in their image and we all represent their image. So what if the color of their skin, their essence, their identity reflected every race, culture and background? What if their image changed according to each person? What if we see their image as we see ourselves? What if the language they speak is different according to each person? This little theory of mine has brought me comfort in knowing that our Heavenly Parents reflect us all, not just the color of our skin, but our culture and our experiences in this life. Culture and race IS important to our identity and I believe it is just as, if not more important, to them.
