My sister got our cousinâs baby teeth (both graduated from college at this point) for Christmas and they were perturbed to say the least

RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.Â
When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldnât get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by.
I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didnât have much to âbringâ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say.
âWhat are you struggling with?â he asked.
I gestured around me and said âI dunno man. Life.â
Not satisfied with my answer, he said âNo, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?â
I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didnât want to say it.
I wanted to have something more substantial.
Something more profound.
But I didnât.
So I told him, âHonestly? The dishes. Itâs stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CANâT do them because Iâll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just canât stand and scrub the dishes.â
I felt like an idiot even saying it.
What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with *actual* problems, and Iâm whining to my therapist about dishes?
But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said:
âRUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.â
I began to tell him that youâre not supposed to, but he stopped me.
âWhy the hell arenât you supposed to? If you donât want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules.â
It blew my mind in a way that I donât think I can properly express.
That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times.
I felt like I had conquered a dragon.
The next day, I took a shower lying down.
A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever the fuck they fit.
There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.
Now that Iâm in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.
But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:
THERE ARE NO RULES.
RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!

...all right My Lord [SIGH] I guess I will just have to trust you
my lord i WARNED you-

Personality hire
Working Cats
Sometimes you really need a good personality on your staff.
tbh im not entirely immune to a villain with a tragic backstory but i do think villain origins are a lot more interesting when the focus is less "here is the original sin, the first big bad thing that happened to them that made them who they are" and more "here is the first time a person who maybe otherwise felt powerless in their life realized that they could hurt someone and get away with it"
you can get a lot more mileage out of analyzing a truly abhorrent character through the lens of like. what sort of conditions would allow or even incentivize this kind of cruelty? what kind of person benefits from those conditions and how? over the more typical who hurt them type analysis. imo.
I actually love this tip because I think villains are often given their motive for being bad guys but it ends up boiling down to, "What convinced them to take action?" which often makes them more sympathetic than even the hero, because a character that takes action is often more sympathetic in their motives, relatable in their desires, and likable in their gumption than a hero who is passive (which poorly-written heroes often are, hence why we get so many beloved villains who DO things and forgettable heroes who have to be pushed to want or do anything except Solve the Plot and Stop the Bad Guy).
For example, we see the horrific and sympathetic circumstances that lead Magneto to decide to turn against humans in "X-Men 1", but we don't necessarily see a corresponding moment where Charles Xavier his nemesis(/friend/lover) decided to take action to become a good guy in that film (in part because the film is focused on Wolverine's hero's journey where he decides by the end to become a hero). This leads to many finding Magneto more understandable as a heroic figure and lends a lot of (possibly unintentional) sympathetic weight to his motives over that of the heroes, even when the outcomes are reckless or horrifying and meant as an (often clumsy) cautionary tale.
Whereas if you focus, in theory, on the first time a villain realized they could do bad things and get away with it, that it helped them achieve their goals, versus just that they have a goal after something bad happened to them.
And this post made me realize how by contrast we don't always get the hero's "that time a bad thing happened to me and I decided to do a good thing" - perhaps because the hero's journey towards doing good is often the point of the whole plot, whereas the villain gets the succinct flashback or monologue.
Very thought provoking post, OP!

Goddamit i hate this fucking post. I hate it because obviously if âtwelveâ followed the same pattern as the other teen numbers it wouldnât be âtwoteenâ it would be âseconteenâ. Think about it. Itâs not âthreeteenâ itâs âthirteenâ as in âthirdâ. Itâs not âfiveteenâ itâs âfifteenâ as in fifth. So with that in mind, you count âfirst, second, third, fourth, fifth,â and so on, so eleven would be âfirsteenâ and twelve would be âsecondteenâ or âseconteenâ. âFirsteen, seconteen, thirteen, fourteen, fifteenâŚ.â It just drives me absolutely mad everytime i see this post that this obvious pattern was overlooked and i cant hold in my rage anymore.
I think this is exactly why thirteen is considered a âbad luckâ number.
Eleven and twelve have special names because as humans we can count to 12 on our fingers. But if we need to count to thirteen weâre outta fingers, bad news.
interesting hypothesis! i have a question,
if youre in the US (especially the northeast + michigan) i would avoid bagged salads/greens and generally wash your produce very thoroughly unless you want the diarrhea parasite
Michigan is experiencing its largest outbreak of a parasitic infection that causes severe diarrhea. Nearly 1,000 people have been diagnosed
this is not life-threatening, but also who wants weeks of diarrhea and a fucking parasite in them lol. if you suspect you've already had this and it's passed, i would see a doctor. you might need an antiparasitic anyway. if you're actively sick, see a doctor and they might be able to prescribe medication to help you get over it faster.
try to avoid eating raw vegetables, scrub fruit with a produce brush and rinse thoroughly with water. again, don't bother with premade greens or bagged salads. if you buy lettuce, remove the outer 2-3 layers of leaves.
there are UNVERIFIED rumors that the greens have been linked to a company that sources to taco bell. some locations have been actively pulling fresh ingredients like lettuce, avocado, and pico de gallo to mitigate the threat, so i would avoid any products from them just in case. considering how vast supply chains are, i'd be wary of any fast food greens in general for now.
also note this is a PARASITIC infection. most diarrhea-causing pathogens you expect to contaminate your greens are bacteria (e.g. e. coli and salmonella), which are a different domain of organism altogether. cyclospora is a protozoan, which is bigger and more complicated than a bacteria (for reference, malaria is also caused by a protozoan). bacterial diarrhea can be dangerous, but you might also expect to weather it and survive unscathed. do NOT fuck with PARASITIC contamination. you should be scared of this one!
Another note: YOU CAN'T WASH IT OFF!
Only high temperatures will kill cyclospora. It resides in what is like a shell, which is highly resistant to water and most cleaning chemicals. The substance it uses to cling to food is so strong we don't even fully know what its limits are. It may be best to avoid fruits and veggies you can't cook. Scrubbing only works if done hard enough and on foods with no hiding places (Like cucumbers and grapes). Peeling the skin off is your best bet at avoiding it however, scrubbing is not guaranteed.
Thank you OP for posting! Usually washing does work on most sicknesses, just not this one.
Extra note: this parasite can only be found in human feces, this food was contaminated due to a lack of bathrooms and washing stations on harvesting sites due to loosening enforcement of food safety regulations. This was more than preventable, we used to prevent it.
