Imagine you’re some pod racing enthusiast watching the Boonta Eve Classic and some literal child enters with the shittiest scrap pod you’ve ever seen. He built it himself. He then proceeds to absolutely demolish every other professional racer. The kid never enters a race again but his legacy lives on in the hearts of the pod racing community.
About 10 years later, you tune into a news stream to catch some news about the Clone War. The announcer is talking about a particularly pivotal battle, saying something about “Jedi General Anakin Skywalker”
YOU MEAN THAT KID FROM THE BOONTA EVE CLASSIC???

if i were in charge of star wars i would end the last movie witth yoda reading the story out of a big book and he gives a little chuckle and says "happened, none of that did." and then he gets out of his truck and waddles into walmart
billie eilish says you can’t love animals and eat meat at the same time (and she’s right) and there are thousands of comments sayin she’s rich and she can’t tell people what to do and ohh it’s so easy for her. yeah it can be easier for her but when it’s a black poor vegan saying they are vegan bc they care about something bigger than them you also don’t listen. you don’t care. you just create excuses because you wanna keep harming and killing animals for your own good. instead of hating on billie you should look in the mirror.
Literally, if someone with any form of privilege is vegan then it's all about how easy it is for them to say/do that. But if someone without it says they're vegan....crickets.
(Also half the time people saying this stuff are perfectly capable of eating vegan but just don't want to. I'd have more respect if they just said that.)
[ID: screenshot of a series of tweets. The first, by @ ratlimit, reads “Is there a law saying laws must be followed?”
Sridhar Ramesh @ RadishHarmers responds with a link to their own tweet from 2022 reading “The trouble with making crime illegal is that people are willing to break the law. To fix this, we have made breaking the law illegal”.
OP ratlimit responds “Glad you can instantly recollect having said something 3 years ago. Your words must be precious to you”.
Sridhar Ramesh responds with another of their own tweets, which says “I remember word for word, comma for comma, every joke I’ve ever made, from grade school to present. But often with laughs that weren’t there.” This tweet was from 2021. End ID]
I think I've said this before, but some Starkid fans are forgetting Starkid is a theater company, and you should know basic theater etiquette when seeing their shows live
It's disrespectful to the actors and annoying for the people around you if you make excessive noise. Just because it's Starkid doesn't mean you suddenly don't have to be a proper theater goer

Many amazing things to say about tgwdlm but the one that stood out to me the most was Emma not only being under the spotlight in Inevitable, but being acutely aware that she is under said spotlight.
“bits to use in everyday conversations”
started reading pale fire. kinbote is an even funnier oblivious freak than humbert and that's saying something. "i explained to the table that not only am i a vegetarian but i don't eat anything anyone else has prepared because it's exactly as gross as eating meat but i WILL have a beer and make a lewd comment or two about the waitress. my free and simple demeanor set everybody at ease" did it charlie? charlie im gonna be honest bud i don't think it did

What order should I read Pale Fire?
poem first
commentary first
poem and commentary together
i'm bald / nuance / see results
The book itself is by Vladimir Nabokov, but the in-universe conceit is that it's a poem written by a man named John Shade, who is now dead, and the foreward and commentary are both written by Charles Kinbote, his neighbor and self-professed best friend, who claims that
Shade's text [...] has to depend entirely on the reality of its author and his surroundings, attachments and so forth, a reality that only my notes can provide. To this statement my dear poet would probably not have subscribed, but for better or worse, it is the commentator who has the last word.
The foreword is 18 pages, the poem is 26 pages, and the commentary is 160 pages, so the bulk of the "plot" is in the unfolding of Kinbote's perspective, but just from the foreword it's exceedingly clear that he's perhaps a more unreliable narrator than Johnny Truant, so I was planning on reading the poem on its own terms first, but now I'm not sure. Whether you vote or not, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the notes (but keep it spoiler-light, if possible)
RIP Charles Kinbote you would have loved writing RPF John Shade/Male!reader fics.
