After seeing the RTD instagram post, I am reminded again of the interview comments RTD made a while back about the 15th doctor crying. At the time I didn't really want to go into it because it felt like baseless speculation, but hell after reading the instagram post it is very hard for me to ignore how bitter he sounds and i am rather pissed. Anyway, it has been a while + forgot to save the articles, but I believe I was first made aware of the interview via this article. https://www.tvline.com/features/doctor-who-crying-explained-ncuti-gatwa-season-14-15-1235436399/ While RTD didn't explicitly state he didn't script the crying bits, he did for some reason talk about how you don't tell a actor how to feel, or cry, or not cry. When i first saw this I found it very odd because it felt like RTD was throwing Ncuti Gatwa under the bus. It's not RTD's fault for the crying, it's just how Ncuti Gatwa acts. I wondered if it was just tone deaf hyping at the time. Now there was an ongoing rumors due to talk shows and appearances that since Ncuti Gatwa couldn't confirm if he was staying on, he was most likely leaving. Given that many past doctors or actors would literally do so much to help the show stay afloat, it looked selfish (in some of the fan discussions I lurked around) to leave.
Either way, I kept this in mind as the season went along, and then lo and behold Ncuti Gatwa left. I assumed RTD learned this news late or after season 1 given the reshoots, and I also remembered the timing of the interview and how random it felt, and just couldn't shake the feeling RTD was bitter that Ncuti left. That Ncuti wouldn't allow himself just be strung along the rest of the seasons just for Doctor who. To ignore his career just to fit RTD's plans. And then in June 2025, guess what was released? The scripts for some of the episodes and they had crying or tears for the Doctor, which contradicts the interview.
Here is a link to the official BBC scripts. https://www.bbc.co.uk/writers/scripts/whoniverse/doctor-who-2023 And now with the instagram post, I don't really care that much about him lying about the Christmas special. It's the attitude. It's the passive-aggressive hope for the future while also seeming to fear monger that the new show-runners are going to change everything. At the same time I feel like I am reading too much into this, and perhaps should get some sleep. I guess let me know any thoughts, and supporting or counter evidence.
