Obsessed with Han and Obi Wans dynamic in anh they are so utterly unimpressed with each other at all times. Han wants nothing less than to jump this old man who keeps dragging him into progressively worse and worse situation like some imperial comedy of errors and Obi Wan, who has fought in wars and seen shit beyond Hans comprehension, is deadpan like āwow you fly fast? On your piece of shit ship? Thatās sooo coolā. They had to kill off obi wan because if they hadnāt han and obi wan wouldāve killed each other in some spectacularly dramatic fashion and the empire wouldāve won
I'd like to credit @kishi-extra as a main source for a very neat fact about Ingo and Emmet, with what I also found regarding them in the Japanese fandom.
It's interesting how both have a certain way of speaking in both English and Japanese, but differently. In English, Ingo is more eloquent and expressive, while Emmet speaks in short sentences and either begins his sentences with āI am Emmetā or end them with āYupā. Emmet also adds āVerrryā in English.
But in Japanese, it gets interesting! The Japanese language has far more complex aspects, like use of specific pronouns or language structure depending on the situation. And it gets to apply to the twins.
Ingo use 'watakushi', a verrrry polite form of speaking of the already neutral 'watashi'. In most of his dialogues, Ingo speaks in keigo, a type of speech system to refer to respect, humility and politeness, which fits with how Ingo seems to refer to the player as 'anata-sama'; 'anata' is normally very rude in Japan but it is corrected by adding the 'sama' honorific. In other words, Ingo ensure to treat the passengers as important guests, hence why he's so polite. He also seems to adds 'machi' in the end of his sentences sometimes, but it doesn't seem to have any specific meaning.
Emmet do not do that. He doesn't speak in keigo and speaks more casually to the player. He use 'boku', a more boyish version of 'I' and 'kimi', a more impolite version of 'you' for the player. He also has more childish quirks? Emmet sometimes use 'anone', which can be ready as 'you know', so it's kinda cute how he seems to repeat the word in a childish manner. He also tends to say 'sugoku' (very or really) as 'suuuugoku', which empathize another childish trait.
Of course, both twins do use train terminologies in both language, but it's funny how the Japanese language adds more to their personalities and relationship with the player.
Things the cafeteria workers on the Resolute have done to accommodate Ahsoka's dietary needs.
learned how to make powdered eggs into hard boiled eggs
add protein paste to bread treats like sweet rolls or pancakes
absolutely mastered making eggdrop soup from powdered egg (they're very proud of this one)
Turned one of the coolers into a makeshift freeze dryer for the fresh kills Ahsoka manages to drag back to the Resolute (occasionally)
In the same vein as the last one, how to butcher various animals.
Requested dietary supplements from the jedi temple that they crush up and sprinkle into her food like seasoning.
Have an ongoing trade with the Corries where they bring back various contraband from the midrim and in exchange get a couple crates of dried meat sticks.
Tuck away a crate of her favorite ration bars every resupply.
Request for high protein dried plants and grains that store well.
Keep powdered milk.
Things Rex has done to satisfy her hunting instincts.
Started offering her meat sticks as a reward for successful spars.
Assigned specific troopers as targets for her to hunt across the ship. They have treats in their pockets.
Lets Ahsoka run the shinys through their drills.
Making time for her to actually hunt on deployments.
Willingly tasting her kills...even the more questionable looking ones.
Organizes what is essentially flag tag across the ships where troopers have to go about their jobs while also trying to avoid getting their "flags" snatched. If Ahsoka reaches a certain quota of flags without loosing hers she gets to pick the movie for movie night.
A personal rant about why I dislike the inclusion of Celestica/Volo in PLA, or rather, the way it was used
If youāre expecting a nicely organized essay, move along. This is one giant brain dump that has been percolating in my brain for months, and I just needed to get it out.Ā
Comments and asks are welcomed, but donāt expect to hide behind anon. You want to talk? Letās talk.
Volo and Celestica are interesting in Pokemon Legends Arceus. And by interesting, I mean āwhy the hell are you here?ā
I remember going into the more aesthetic reasons for why I thought the Celestica people were Greek / Roman while feeling a bit stumped on the historical /cultural context (best I thought of was the Silk Road & Alexander the Great)
Either way, it does smell of colonialism. :/ I never liked how the residents of Jubilife in particular called us āoutsiderā - the Clans, sure, but the town full of immigrants themselves calling us an āoutsiderā (is it āgaijinā in Japanese?) feels hypocritical.
Oh well. I kinda saw this sort of thing coming, with Japanās habit of just breezing over all the bad things they did through their imperialistic history (much like my own country). š
There is the question though: whatās the deal with Celestic Town? It has an obviously Japanese shrine with an old cave depicting Sinnohās Legendaries where you meet Cynthiaās grandma as well as Cyrus. Anything Grecian has been all but erased. o.o

Volo found his way to academics, got a scholarship, and became a teaching assistant in Unova's academy. A train conductor reached out to him in the first week, demanding the truth. It's not like Volo hasn't been expecting someone to take advantage of him in his long, immortal life, however
My main Trainwreckshipping AU, also serving as a character study for me. This is pretty much what I'll draw for Emmet and Volo stuffs. I'll probably explore NSFW aspects too but I won't post it here
An adolescent young man grew tired of his nepo baby life and became a runaway. For some reason, this old man, who he is so sure is Warden Ingo from the legend (who should have been dead for centuries), asks him to bring him to Unova and somehow won't leave him alone. On the other side of the globe, there's a rumor of a war of seven spirits surviving to actualize their desire.
Literally my 2 interests melting into one being. Except that I'll minimize the "war" aspect and go to more of my OC and Ancient Lunatic Train Man Ingo's relationship, and most importantly not making Emmet and Volo too gay.
āMain story: LITERALLY NO MAIN STORY I JUST WANT IT OUT OF MY HEAD LMAO
Obi-Wan, Aayla, Kit, and Plo all separately make up fake facts on the spot about how natborn reproduction works whenever someone asks them, and the clones are all
that doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about natborn biology to contest it
(they get away with this because the Kaminoan version of sex ed boils down to "don't worry about it, we designed you to be sterile and we don't expect you to live long enough to have to deal with any actual consequences, so have fun")
the clones, raised on Kaminoan rations, literally can't stomach ordinary foodstuffs, and it would take a significant amount of time, effort, and resources they don't have during the war to change that
that doesn't stop several clones from taking up cooking
this does not, however, mean that they need test subjects
the Jedi are conscripted as taste testers while the entire battalion stares them down, eager to demand descriptions of the taste and gustatory experience, and even develop complicated Jedi-reaction ranking schemes to compare their prowess in the kitchen
for battalions assigned to non-human Jedi with different dietary needs and restrictions, this is taken as an extra level of challenge
it becomes a symbol of pride when a Jedi brags about their troopers' cooking to one of their peers
Here's an underexplored and juicy plot point in the prequels that I can't stop thinking about! Because Sifo-Dyas was killed so early in the new canon timeline of the creation of the clones, with Dooku impersonating him to handle the subsequent details, we donāt even know exactly what he intended the clone army to be.
I think thereās even an argument to be made that Sifo-Dyas intended the clones to be culturally Jedi. Raised and trained in the Jedi Temple(s), learning Jedi skills and ways of life, growing up in a shared community alongside the Jedi. The clones serving not as an emergency button to hit in case of war, but as a support to the overstretched, under resourced Jedi Order in an increasingly violent, chaotic galaxy, one that might prevent the war he foresaw from ever even happening.
To begin, Iāll briefly touch on the galactic situation immediately before The Phantom Menace. Time and time again, weāre given a picture of the Jedi Order that is being stretched to its limit. All across the galaxy, Jedi temples such as the ones we see operating in the High Republic era in the Acolyte, are being shut down because the Jedi just canāt staff them. The novel The Living Force, set immediately before TPM, deals with the repercussions of these shut downs for the people living in those sectors - destabilization, a vacuum where the power hungry and corrupt can come into the space left and make life awful for the people. Problems arise, these systems go to the Republic for help,Ā the Republic can't help due to bureaucratic red tape and lack of Jedi resources, and this creates more bad feelings about the Jedi and a great environment to grow the Separatist cause.
"I always heard so much about the Jedi. I never saw one, but they told me that was because you saved people -- and then you left!" - The Living Force
Enter Sifo-Dyas. As a member of the Jedi Council in this era, he would have overseen dozens of these painful but unavoidable closures. More, he was trained by Lene Kostana, a High Republic era Jedi, who remembered the golden age of the Jedi, all of these Jedi outposts, temples, and cultural centers being open and thriving, and surely filled her Padawanās head with these stories. When Sifo-Dyas foresaw a coming cataclysmic war that would destroy the Jedi Order, it's not hard to see where he might have made a connection between the pervasive problem that was a lack of Jedi resources, and the galaxy falling further into darkness. In fact, it's exactly what happens in the prequels with a little push from the Sith.
The Living Force novel tells us outright that Sifo-Dyasās original plan before deciding on the clones was to use his role as a Jedi Seeker to fill the Jedi Order with as many new Jedi as possible to counter the coming threats:
ā(Sifo-Dyas) was always in a big damn hurry. Like the Republic would end if he didnāt swell the ranks.āĀ - The Living ForceĀ
Wow, Even Piell, that line aged like milk, buddy!
Ā Ki-Adi Mundi frowned. āIndeed, sometimes those he brought to us were not even viable candidates.āĀ - The Living ForceĀ
So, Sifo-Dyas was originally trying to bring as many kids into the Order as possible, and didnāt particularly care if they were very Force sensitive. An intriguing detail, when considering how closely he might have imagined the non-Force-sensitive clones to work in Jedi roles.
Interestingly, he didnāt actually abandon that āswell the ranksā plan - he got his ass fired, so he couldnāt bring any more Jedi in the conventional way.Ā Sifo-Dyas is in a desperate situation here, he feels he's running out of time, and he needs to get as many people into the Jedi Order as quickly as possible. I think you might see where I'm going with this.
āThe future should remain unseen, but unfortunately, Sifo-Dyas has little choice in the matter.āĀ -Lene Kostana, Dooku Jedi Lost
We know he arranged the initial order for the clones, but not how he intended to use them, or saw their role, or even if he would have agreed with Jango as the DNA donor, since that part came in from Dooku. Ā If Sifo-Dyas, lifelong Jedi and true believer in the Order, was creating something to help defend his people in their darkest hour, it stands to reason that he might look within his own culture for their training, instead of outside of it.
Did he see them as a secret weapon, a surprise help in the hour of greatest need, as they would ultimately function as on Geonosis? Or did he envision the clones being raised with Jedi involvement on every level of their development, growing into keepers of the peace to fill those hundreds of empty temples and outposts and restabilize a galaxy sliding toward darkness?
I think an important clue that supports the latter argument is that as Sifo-Dyas is literally falling out of the sky to his death, he is busy trying to get a message to the Council that he ordered the clones via a recording:Ā
I've seen a vision of the future that I feel warrants an army. You've disagreed with me, but I felt I had no choice. Therefore I have ordered one: a clone army from the Kaminoans. Something must be done, and I made that decision. - Sifo-Dyas, Force Collector
He's hardly trying to keep the (currently embryonic!) clones a secret here. He seems to think he's done his part and the Council has no choice but to take it from there, and follow through with his unmentioned plan. He has delivered the needed personnel. And bear in mind, Sifo-Dyas did not expect his death to be a 10 year old mystery. He seems to have spent his very last breaths protecting Sillman and therefore leaving a witness to everything that happened. His last words are literally āCome find me!āĀ
These are not the actions of a man who has set his plan into perfect motion and a magic army will appear just at the right time in ten years. This is a man who is facing his unexpected death and realizing that he needs to tell the Council, who disagreed with him but he clearly still trusts, what he did because he won't be there to handle the details himself. It's almost poignant.
-
I worried about making this post at all because Iām not actually interested in blorbo apologism. Sifo-Dyasās story is much more interesting if he is a good man forced to go to desperate, awful lengths to keep the apocalypse from happening. Whatever he intended the clones to be, it ended in Order 66; in a way, it doesn't even matter. Ā And yet, I think thereās something compelling there too, and I think canon gives us just enough - at least make an argument for a culturally-Jedi clone army what-if.
I need to add to this post that if Sifo-Dyas somehow survived the crash and the Jedi found out about the clones prior to TPM, I still don't see him having a huge role in the prequel story.
Because the Council, after they finished going YOU DID FUCKING WHAT would have assigned him to Creche duty for the rest of his living days. Consecutive life sentences. No chance of parole.
Master Sifo-Dyas? No, never heard of him. Oh, the you mean the Lost One? Buried under a literal pile of babies. So many diapers to change.
shaak ti absolUTELY sends plo like dozens of daily snaps of clones while sheās on kamino
and plo saves them all within seconds
heās already running out of storage on his second data pad
they probably have contests to see which of them can fit the most clones into a selfie and itās a tight race until shaak takes one standing on a table in the tipoca city mess hall and plo just kinda gives up on winning after that, but he still regularly sends her family photos of him and the wolfpack
!!! this is so GOOD - the kaminoan scientists stare in disapproval like the awful wet blankets they are and shaak gives a FIGHT ME glare right back over a sea of grinning/peace-signing/finger-gunning/dabbing clones
and when theyre not engaged in Selfie Warā¢, shaak sends updates like: āso-and-so just chose his name!ā or āthis squad figured out how to break into the kitchens, how long should i give them before āreprimandingā them?ā
and when plo and the wolfpack are in the system, he always smuggles a ridiculous amount of sweets down under the guise of Serious Jedi Master Business
(the kaminoans HATE shaak ti, sheās ruining all their careful conditioning and strict regulation with her ridiculous jedi ideals such asĀ āencouragementĀ of individualityā and āa basic respect for life,,ā)
YES and she also updates him on all the Drama⢠such as the domino squad debacle, so like the next time the wolfpack and the 501st team up after fives and echo get co-adopted by anakin and rex,Ā ploās just likeĀ āah yes i know those two, master ti spent an hour complaining about one of their trainers over holo-skypeā
the wolfpack has the largest secret stash of candy in the entire army and all the other battalions are so jealous, what do you mean you guys get candy, general kenobi only gets us boring stuff like teaĀ and alcohol,,
its completely mutual - of course shaak ti would never call it āhateā (just a very strong disagreement over proper child raising methods and its really not that difficult of a concept to GRASP) - it only took about three and a half seconds into the official tour when she first arrived before shaak was likeĀ āaight. listen to me. NOā and somehow along the way she managed to acquire a curious train of young cadets - and when the scientist leading the tour tried to shoo them away shaak looked them dead in the eye and did not blink as she slowly knelt and scooped two up in her arms. that was the moment. both the kaminoans and shaak knew. that this would not be an easy partnership.
(that first night plo answered her skype-call and didnt even get out aĀ āhelloā before shaak EXPLODED into an impressive rant that consisted mostly of IVE ADOPTED A MILLION YOUNG SONS PLO AND IāM GOING TO Ā F I G H T Ā SOME NERD SCIENTISTS BEFORE THE WEEK IS OUT)(the passive aggressiveness between shaak and the kaminoans is comparable to a cold war and by the time theyre cadets the clones know that if shaak gets That Look⢠its time to skedaddle)
plo says to fives and echoĀ āmaster ti has told me much of your accomplishmentsā and what they hear isĀ āhey, Iām a Jedi General and I know everythingā and what Plo means isĀ āYes, children, I know EVERYTHING.ā the first time he casually saunters over to them and asks a question about something they hadĀ definitelyĀ never told anyone aboutĀ fives nearly chokes on his water
there is a MASSIVE black market between the battalions because no decent jedi can really say no to their men - aayla basically runs a library out of one of her storage rooms (the most popular requests are gardening books, ship blueprints, and obscure mythology anthologies) - with such intricate rules that it takes shinies a couple of months to get the bartering exchanges down (two bottles of nabooan wine equals a full pack of chocolates equals fifteen tea bags equalsā¦)
and force help them when they get a surprise inspection, esp if its not by their own commander/general who Knows⢠but turns a blind eye -Ā āno, of courseĀ we donāt have sweetsĀ those are against regulationā (the sweets meanwhile are getting shoved into a tiny space behind a console that someone only ever uses once in a hundred years or under a loose floorboard in the hallway outside the barracks - obscure tiny spaces that no one would be able to find unless, of course, they closely examined some ship blueprints or something)
of course bc shaak is a jedi master and has complete control of her feelings! honest! ⦠but on the other hand there was That One Time that she opened a call to plo with the sentenceĀ āi am going to STAB nala se in the EMPTY PLACE where her SOUL should be,ā so.Ā but like YES the kaminoans try to explain The System⢠to her and she interrupts every 5 seconds to tell them that their methods are cruel and it is not happening on her watch (and the cadets she picks up on the way are in absolute AWE of her bc nobody ever stands up to the kaminoans! itās just not a thing! but there she is, doing it! and they instantly love her and know they can trust her)
(shaak is in a constant state of barely restraining the urge to fight them all, like oh sure she seems calm but would you be calm if you had to deal with the kaminoans every single day for years? i would not) (all the clones know to Beware The Look⢠even though itās never directed at them because thatās how you know that general ti is having a bad self-control day and/or the kaminoans are somehow worse than usual, which are both excellent excuses to leave the room immediately)
plus ploās really good at, like, reading people, so like. your secrets are not safe, fives. echo tries to pretend heās TheĀ Perfect Trooper in front of the visiting general butĀ ploās just likeĀ āitās cute how you think you got away with sneaking into the tipoca city library every nightā and echo turns BRIGHT RED and fives does an actual spit take bc heās laughing so hard, what do you mean echo broke a rule, impossible! (it takes a couple seconds for plo to realize that echo thinks heās actually in trouble, bc he always forgets that most of the shinies donāt know that the jedi couldnāt care less about whatever rules the kaminoans had, and also does he actually think heās in trouble for sneaking into the library, every jedi master in the galaxy wishes that their younglings snuck into the library instead ofĀ every single other placeĀ younglings usually try to sneak into)
yes yes yes! different types of contraband for different battalions and jedi, yes. and of course thereās a ridiculouslyĀ complicated exchange system because the front lines and the battalions fighting on them are chaos incarnate. (it takes a few months for the shinies to realize that juicy gossip is always an acceptable form of currency, the clone army is a huge rumor mill thatās just as bad if not worse than the jedi order)
ah yes theĀ āāsurpriseāā inspections, which are usually not actually surprises because the generals are usually notified beforehand - nobody is inspecting the jedi, after all - and as soon as the inspector leaves the room, the general turns to their commander and is like, āinspection tomorrow/later today/in an hour/in half an hour, tell the troops,ā which gives them at least a little bit of time to stuff the contraband into the secret compartments behind the control panels and the half-empty ration crates in the emergency supply room (sometimes it is actually a surprise, though, in which case the general and the clones in whichever places get inspected first try to stall the inspector for long enough for the rest of the battalion to hide everything
the council has received so many complaints from both the kaminoans and shaak - which are always worded oh so politely but my god the venom in between the lines is PALPABLE - that they now have to set aside entire days to discuss just what the hell is going on in tipoca city. shaak rarely attends these even via hologram bc of Clone Mom business, but she has them all heavily circled in bright red on her personal calendar (obviously a gift from a squad whoās already been deployed) and these are always low-control days. she makes a point of calling plo the night before and giving up more than enough updates/details/barely-concealed-rage so she has at least one proxy on the council, because she knows that no matter what side the council takes on these complaints, the atmosphere between her and the scientists will inevitably grow even MORE frigid. āplo you have to listen to me. they have these droids that fly around and SHOCK the poor things. I wonāt allow that. plo are you listening to me. PLO.ā but she always finds it easy to calm down - all she has to do is step outside her quarters and shes swarmed with cadets and older clones within minutes, and now she has essentially a dozen younglings all talking and asking questions at the same time so this easily kills a few hours (or if she wants she can read over the mountain of mail from deployed clones and try to respond to some of it)
(one of these meetings happened when plo was deep undercover with the wolfpack and so shaak patched herself through to obi-wan instead. she got cody at first and The Glare⢠was already so deeply set on her face that he didnt even need to hear what she had to say. he went and got got obi-wan IMMEDIATELY and then left.)(now shaak has TWO proxies on these tipoca-city-meeting days and their numbers are growing)
and poor ECHO my child he was so close to actually running away and/or smacking fives THEN running away before plo manages to convince them that of all the things to do, sneaking in a library is probably the least of their worries and that ploās actually impressed with the amount echo read before being deployed (this is when news of aaylaās ālibraryā starts making the rounds in the 501st and soon echo has never looked happier and disappears to his bunk only to reappear hours later asking plo for another book, please)
oh man. the rumor mill in the gar is UN.REAL. its next level stuff. even the jedi have trouble keeping abreast of all the newest gossip and soon just trust that their commander or captain will let them know the juiciest details so at least they can pretend to be in the know - but the clones have been EMBEDDED in this culture since they were young. theyre fluent in it. bonus points are awarded for evidence - audio or visual, visual preferred. they know EVERYTHING. it knocks new padawans especially off guard, bc they were taught that the clones are Serious Military Men Always, so the first time they see a table of clones clustered around a table in the cafeteria discussing who-was-kissing-who-behind-the-senate-columns the padawans are SHOCKED. but as soon as they figure out that the wolfpack has sweets - man. no secret is safe for very long.
the best gossip is rewarded with a combination of sweets/alcohol/new tattoo designs but those are RARE rewards indeed bc not only does there need to be absolute PROOF - but it needs to be delivered DIRECTLY TO the suppliers, all at once, in person - and that only happens once in a blue moon because how often do their paths intersect? so if a clone happens upon a truly Choice piece of gossip he has to guard it with all his might until he can present it to the clones with access to the reward he wants
and jesse is the reigning KING of distractions when it comes to inspections. hes taken to keeping a small pile of random bits and pieces of medical equipment tucked under his mattress so theyre always on hand. there was That One Time when he found a tutorial on how to make fake blood on the holonet and utilized it, very effectively, during a surprise inspection. rex was Not Happy. At All. but it did buy them time enough to hide the booze and trashy holovids, so.
(the councilās always just likeĀ ā⦠did shaak write this⦠with her lightsaber?ā because itās SO OBVIOUS that she just wants to solve all her kaminoan problems with Aggressive Negotiationsā¢) those days are blocked out entirely in red, the entire square for each of those days is just colored solid red, because the Force knows the kaminoans are going to be so damn insufferable on those days, which just so happen to be the days when she has the least control over her feelings on the topic - she tries to assign herself the easier or more fun tasks on those days, like teaching the really tiny cadets, because theyāre always really nice to her and it feels good knowing that every second she spends with them undoes a tiny bit of the damage the kaminoansā teaching methods have done to them. (and she always makes a point of checking to see if fives and echo have sent her any messages - she swears doesnāt have favorites, but⦠theyāre her favorites.)
(the secondĀ shaakās hologram appears codyās just like, āOH, uh, i⦠will go get general kenobi. yeah.ā and then he leaves as fast as is humanly possible without seeming rude because being in the same room as The Glare⢠is bad luck)
echo nearly DIES on the spot because a member of the jedi council knows i Broke A Rule but plo manages to convince him that heās not in trouble before that happens (also, heyyyyy, echo, honey - you might want to get used to breaking rules, because anakin skywalker is⦠not good at following those). and hey, being a bookworm is never a bad thing and someone in the 501st ought to know the rules am i right and ploās like,Ā āman, if master ti and i had been sneaking into the library every night when we were padawans, weād have been given seats on the council much sooner than we wereā (shaak and plo only snuck into cool places, like the old tunnels carved into the mountain that the temple is built over, which lead to a bunch of cool old shrines and are⦠restricted to anyone who doesnāt have clearance from the council, oops.)
you KNOW the jedi are too tired when they canāt even keep track of the latest rumors, yikes. but yeah, the clones are all a bunch of horrible gossips and no one is safe. (āwho-was-kissing-who-behind-the-senate-columnsā I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, tbh the amidala-skywalkers need to maybe tone it down a littleĀ while theyāreĀ in public, because they are not subtle)
I CANāT BELIEVE PRANKSTER GOD JESSE IS CANON NOW, GOD BLESS yes omg. you know who else wasnāt happy about that prank? kix. kix was SO MAD AT HIM because why would you PRETEND to be INJURED, jesse, donāt i have enough REAL injuries to deal with without adding your FAKE ones,, (kix needs a break please give him a vacation, he puts up with so much, his battalion is full of nothing but adrenaline junkies and people with 0 survival instinct)

Fox (reving up on air guitar) Ja na na na Na na na na Ja na na na na Na na na jananananana š¶šø I WANNA SHOCK (self echoing) TROOP ā ja na na na na na Naa Naa šø I WANT TO SHOCK š¶
Wolffe/Cody (into it): TROOP ā
Fox: ja na na na na na Naa Naa Naaaaa šø-- welcome to Shock Troop a holo-cast within a holo-cast about the latest and greatest in Senatorial Briefings--
Cody: no wait you need to explain--
Fox (ignoring him) Senator Stonk released the following statement yesterday that he will be proposing a bill that would have Clone Troopers forage for food on planet to bring down military budget expenses.
Wolffe: wait what?
Fox (carrying on): when asked to clarify how that would work, Stonk had this to say: Our spending is out of control and we must come up with imaginative solutions. Many of the planets they are sent to have an abundance of flora and fauna. We should have them use the resources available. If they can destroy droids surely they should be able to find food sources.
Cody (blue screen of death face audible even in an audio format): wh..........
Fox: in response to the bill, Master of the Jedi Order Mace Windu had this to say: No.
He then gestured in tired exasperation to Clone Commander CC-411 who explained in great detail the pitfalls of having to feed an army of millions with this method. Windu's initial response has become a reaction 'gram on the holonet that has been shared three billion times and has sparked numerous mocking posts towards the proposed bill on SX (The stream formerly known as space twitter). I'll put the 'gram in the show notes.
Many of the bill's initial supporters loudly insisted they were never going to vote it through if it came up in session. Senator Stonk's press secretary claims that this is all a joke taken out of context and the Senator had no intention to actually propose such a bill.
Wolffe: that's too bad. I like the idea of hunting.
Cody: yes, but to feed your entire battalion?
Wolffe: oh no, I meant the senators. I would hunt them.
Okay this popped out of my queue today. Anyway the point wasnāt really to disparage Travissās off-hand comment (if thereās any universal instrument it might as well be drums, so I just canāt take it seriously). But consider: Mando Stomp. Anything can be a percussion instrument if you hit it the right way. Do you see my vision?
The idea that there are no drums in mandalorian cultures is a little silly because drums are considered one of the only universal forms of instruments, literally EVERYTHING can be turned into a drum from hollow logs to actual boulders, but itās an interesting thought experiment nonetheless!
My two favorite interpretations here are:
1. Some styles of Mandalorian music are very similar to styles like Flamenco/Zapateado Calentano where the dancing and clapping in itself is the drums of the music. Which inadvertently gives these cultures some of the most insane synchronicity and rhythm of any people in the galaxy (coming from someone whoās danced Zapateado with 40+ people before itās an experience)
Imagine huge dance halls with hollow floors specifically designed to echo the rhythm of the dancers, Mandalorian houses having their largest rooms right above the cellars because theyāre the best places to host dances where the stomping is amplified, town squares having distinct hollow bricks so that festivals and holidays will always have space for music.
Special dancing shoes with hollow soles specifically made to echo your stomps! Oooo or the really fancy noble clans being able to get specially tailored shoes with beskar soles like tap shoes, a point of pride being able to lead the music of a celebration by being the focus of the rhythm!
2. If we take inspiration from the Besābev there would 100% be drums in the style of shields. We donāt even have to go too far for that, we literally have the Steelpan drum!
Or bell plates or other idiophones! Maybe the āno drumsā just means the traditional Mandalorian percussion instruments donāt have membranesāi.e. theyāre not drums but idiophones, which make sound by the instrument itself vibrating (and not air, membrane, or string).
Exactly! I meant to refer to Dha Werda Verda, but got distracted by nerding about different instrument families. š Thanks for the addition @kyrikaryc!
Do you think the jedi make their own robes? Like from scratch like collecting the silk and the wool and making thecloth.
I definitely think most if not all robe production is in house! They have ancient textile traditions that are preserved and practiced with the same reverence as any other skill. Jedi are taught very early up to respect their robes as valuable possessions, indicators of the path to which theyāre dedicated, as well as a vital opportunity to express individuality.
They definitely have ancient, ethical sources for their silk, wool, leather, etc (this is making me think about the agricorps, your favorite!) and I like to think they maintain close ties with the people who raise the animals or cultivate the plants used for the materials. Imagine retired Jedi moving out to the mid rim to raise space sheep š„¹
Iām admittedly very uninformed when it comes to textiles and fabrics (when I cosplay I just use what I can get from 2nd hand and scrap shops with varying degrees of success) but I imagine the Jedi have an expansive selection of weights, textures, colors etc. Earth tones are in style during the final years of the Republic, but even in a sea of browns and tans, there are endless variations of warms and cools and silhouettes and embroidered details.
Speaking of embroidered details, I like to think that itās pretty common for Jedi to incorporate patterns or motifs into their robes. While thereās millennia of traditional designs available (which carry different meanings/associations) there are many Jedi craftspeople who are resources for assisting in the creation of new designs to commemorate achievements or honor lineages, as a couple examples. For Jedi who are appointed to stations within the order which typically encourage signaling that station via embroidered robes, itās expected that theyāll dedicate time to hand embroider their robes themselves (ie I headcanon Jocasta embroidered her own robes with the Ansata pattern).
Lastly, I like to think that, related to Jedi being taught very early to respect their robes, itās common for Jedi to mend their own robes (at least for normal wear and tear reasons). Thereās a whole woven crafts field of study available by way of electives for initiates and padawans, but basic mending skills are mandatory.
I love tasuki for Jedi. If the robes are a symbol of their culture and history, I love tasuki as some practical companion to those billowing sleeves -- never acceptable in a public or ceremonial setting, but undeniably present in private, domestic moments, every time a Jedi has to cook, or scrub a dish, or change a diaper.
I love the idea that Obi-Wan's been tying his sleeves back since he was a crecheling, just as countless generations of Jedi have done before him.
I think he's a man comforted by ritual. I think that during the Clone Wars, far from his home and his people, he'd wear every damn layer of those robes even in the privacy of his personal quarters, even 7 hours into formwork in the dead of night. And when he inevitably gets irritated by his sleevies and reaches for the tasuki, maybe š„ŗ there's a moment where he remembers his home.
I like to think it soothes him. I like to think he feels a little more settled, a little more composed, a little less alone after.
Mostly I like to think of his dear Marshal Commander watching him from across the table, watching the capable, practiced motion of his hands. The way it reveals wrists and forearms, the way it disrupts the clean lines of his collar, revealing š«£ maybe a scandalous bit of neck. The easy intimacy of this in the middle of the night, sharing the burden of command. I'm weak for it.
Anyways. What beautiful art can be born from an AO3-deprived discord thirst session. š„ŗ Raph, this is perfect. His EYES, his hair, the bend of his wrist, GOD.....it's too much, it's all so much.....
