Toby Fox did something I found pretty funny in chapter 5, but I gotta start a bit earlier.

In chapter 4, Carol was introduced. And I don't think it's a big revelation to anyone that she is a very obvious red herring. She is cold and standoffish, there's a shelter code in her house. She has a big black sword on her wall and she has sharp horns. She is in cahoots with Kris. She is introduced to us right after we meet and fight the Roaring Knight for the first time. All of this happened specifically so that a casual player may play these chapters subsequently and connect the dots immediately. I was surprised that Susie didn't have a line in chapter 5 over Carol being very suspicious, but that may have been a bit too on the nose I suppose.

Now, what happened in chapter 5 is that I believe Toby Fox continued the Holiday family red herrings with Rudy. The Knight comes very late and is weak and hurting. We are told that Rudy fell from the ladder earlier in the chapter* And I find that red herring really funny, as I stated already. And we know said red herring worked because there was a resurgence of Rudy knighters the last couple days, despite the very hostile pushback from Dess knighters

*Some say that "fell down" means he is in a coma. But I raise you: it was made vague on purpose so that we don't know whether Rudy actually is dying or if he fell from a ladder. If the intent was to specifically tell us that Rudy fell into a coma with no doubt, then they woud have shown him just standing around decorating the streets, instead of standing on a tall ass ladder that wobbles right in front of the fun gang.

My biggest gripe with Knight theorising are the Dess knighters, I'm sorry. A lot of them have a No Fun Allowed policy in which if you DARE to bring up a possibility of the Knight being someone else, you're stupid and illiterate and misogynistic. Which only pushes people away from their circles. Guys, theorizing is supposed to be fun. Let people imagine their own endings to Deltarune

Speaking of their own endings to Deltarune here are some of my believes about the Knight and the possible endings.

Here's a cat out of the bag, I do believe in a variation of Dess knight. Only not specifically that the knight is just Dess. I think the Knight is either amalgamate Dess OR the broken dreams and maybe body that belonged to Dess.

I don't believe that the Knight could be Dess as she was in life. Mostly because then Dess would not be the Lost Girl, there would be no purpose to creating Dark Worlds and the voice in the code would be someone else* While if the Knight is something resembling or having a part of Dess, everything above is not an issue. Dess is still lost and her absence is something the major characters have to overcome, the Dark Worlds and the Roaring are being actively made and strived towards to return Dess to normal and the voice in the code is still Dess' subconsciousness or just straight up her

*The voice could technically be read as something that happened in the past, but I always believed the scratching noise is us decoding the game to see her talking.

Now the ending I'm imagining depends heavily on which one of the Knights we pick.

1) Dess leftover dreams, kind of like Gerson but not really. Someone on Twitter mentioned that then the Knight's motivation would be a flawed idea of what Dess would have liked, which is mostly supported by chapter 2 being a big city for Noelle. In this case the ending and themes of Deltarune would be revolved around grief making you do bad things, but that grief is not something that's going to last forever. Imagine chapter 5 Asgore arc, but happening to Carol and Kris. Maybe the motivation behind Carol and Kris' plots is the idea that the Knight could be Dess and that if there were only more Dark Worlds maybe the Knight would be more like Dess. And towards the ending they would learn that clinging to the idea of "fixing everything" is only hurting everyone around them. Carol is hurting her remaining family and Kris is hurting their friends. Like Asgore's arc. Can you tell I love Asgore's arc in chapter 5?

2) If it's Amalgamate Dess then there could be commentary about disabled people lowkey. Carol maybe thinking she could fix Dess being disabled but ultimately hurting Dess and everyone around them. Then the ending will be Amalgamate Dess just going to live with her family, like Amalgamates in Undertale. To be fair this one is mostly hype moments and aura to me

You might have guessed but I'm very open minded about the Roaring Knight's identity. If it's Carol or Rudy, I'm not going to be upset, because the themes that I expect from Deltarune (some escapism is good, a lot escapism, to the point where you don't notice anything around you, is bad) is going to remain intact. The only Knight candidate that I feel would be complete bullshit is like... Friend or Chara+Frisk or something like that. Even Papyrus knight could work if Carol and Kris are in it for Dess return and Papyrus is there for hype (though it would be extremely weak, I admit).

This is a smooth diversion into Kriselle knight and my thoughts.

It's a bit convoluted, but it could work. The theory that Deltarune's ending would be unsatisfactory enough to make the player seek out the Weird route existed and was pretty widely spread before Chapter 5 came out. If you combine it with Kriselle knight, it could actually be a good story. The only part that I disagree with is that I don't think Toby Fox would make a sad ending for Deltarune because... why would he?

But even without it all, it's unimaginable to me just how lazy you have to be to have been caught THIS way. To leave the HTML flag you would have had to paste it straight from Claude to AO3 without even using ctrl+shift+V. The laziest of the laziest of bums in our society

But the reason I started writing this post is one specific fic and writer. There were 12 instances of Claude, that the writer removed and now they have the gall to bitch in the comments about how it's all fake news. It was supposedly "only in the notes", but I am supposed to believe that someone who can't even be arsed to write the NOTES by themselves has never used AI in their fic. Where there's one AI usage, there's twelve and there's a hundred.

The funniest part is that the beta reader is fuming about the commenters DARING to point out provable AI usage... while not even knowing how said AI was detected. They legit think someone used an online AI checker.
