VANELLOPE COSPLAY PROP PROGRESS!!! \o/
For context, Iâm building a hot pink one of these things as a baseball bat:
And for further context, Iâm designing a version of Vanellope who gets stuck in Sugar Rush fighting cybugs, so sheâs getting a kick ass candy apocalypse design đ
Minor update! I added a second water bottle as a base, and Iâm about 40% done with the main layer of crystals. Once I finish the main structure Iâll be going back in with smaller pieces to fill in the gaps and make it look like different sized sugar crystals grew between the bigger ones. So base first, detailing second :)

I am so tired of short-attention-span, trim-the-fat culture. All writing advice these days is for how to write like Chuck Palahniuk. "Cut 'think', cut 'feel', cut 'wonder' - only action, only pushing forward, show and move and move and move." What if I could emulate this style, and still don't want to? What if I want to write like Henry James, with three paragraphs of introspective musings between each dialogue line? The music advice is, "make it shortform, make it Tik-Tok compatible, make it punchy, hit the refrain as soon as possible." What if I want that 10-minute prog rock piece? What if I want that symphony? What if I want it slow and luxurious and lazy? Movies. Series. Poetry. Bodies. Everything is "trimmed trimmed trimmed trimmed, stripped bare, you have three seconds to win me over, make it airport chic." I don't want to win you over, then, I guess. I want the fat left it. I want the pleasure and the indolence and the indulgence. Fuck this art-advice that's always "your art needs Ozempic."

âDead Dove: Do Not Eatâ is too often (incorrectly) used as a cover-all tag, on fics ranging from Vaguely Uncomfortable to Serious Shit, as a replacement for any intense tags relating to the story. People will use it to say âHoly shit guys some INTENSE SHIT happens in this storyâ without actually saying what that Intense Shit⢠is.
In actuality, the âDead Doveâ tag is meant to be used in addition to other warning tags. Pulled from a scene from the show Arrested Development (look it up on YouTube!), it means âHi! Hey! I labeled this fic to warn you of whatâs in it, so you might REALLY want to read those labels! This fic is exactly what it says on the tin! The tags are accurate! Donât say I didnât warn you, because this is me warning you! Read the tags!â
So before you accidentally use the âDead Dove: Do Not Eatâ tag without context, hereâs your preemptive lesson for next time. Please tag your fics accordingly! Ta!

grammatically speaking, "dead dove do not eat" in its original usage functions like an intensifier; it increases the emotional intensity of the other tags. It's like "very" or "extremely" or "incredibly," like those adverbs that can intensify adjectives. To say that your fanfiction is VERY or EXTREMELY is I guess some information, but to say it's VERY NON-CONSENSUAL or EXTREMELY GORY, or that a character in it is INCREDIBLY MANIPULATIVE, is much better information.
'Dead Dove Do Not Eat' was also, in its conception as a tag, a warning about how the other tags were going to be used -- that one should not expect problematic aspects to be examined or subverted. 'Dead Dove Do Not Eat' can be a statement of intent that the author means to roll around and wallow.
It's a bit like the fan fic equivalent of a film being advertised as a b-movie.
Exactly! This was the only part I wish Iâd written better in the original post before people started sharing it around.
It doesnât always mean the fic is horrific, but it does mean you need to assume that the tags you see are Unapologetically In The Story Proper and not just skimmed or mentioned or used for backstory/world building. When something is tagged normally, it could go either way, and some writers just mention them as a minor courtesy. DD:DNE is a specifier and emphasizer đ
âOne should not expect problematic aspects to be examined or subvertedâ is the perfect phrasing for this, yes. Because it also means thereâs a chance that something problematic will happen, and the characters will NOT have some kind of scene saying why the thing is bad, or that they think itâs bad, even if the author agrees that it is, in fact, bad. Itâs supposed to allow people to understand that something is going to be the troubling or toxic version of an intense thing without breaking the scene to do it.
Granted, some people in fandom have the reading comprehension of a snail, so thereâs always gonna be judgmental commenters who slip through the cracks đ but hey, canât catch everyone I guess lol

OR: When Hazel helps Oscar escape from Salem, things go a little differently. Salem catches on too soon, Ozpin is desperate to get Oscar to safety, and the rescue party doesn't arrive. A rushed spell, a misplaced semblance, and a little bit of bad luck create a twist in fate that nobody - not even Ozma - could have predicted. (OR OR: Thanks to an escape attempt gone wrong, Oscar gets blasted back in time, drops out of the sky in Mistral, and lands at Qrow's feet. Oh, and he's been turned into a bird.)
