I need to add this: Most of the high standards of masculinity are directly influenced by a low opinion of women and a high opinion of men. Men are confronted with violence and hatred for doing things that are perceived as feminine not only because they are things associated with women, but because they are men and are “supposed” to be better than women by avoiding these things. Toxic masculinity is fueled by sexism. Women have nothing to do with do with it, no matter what bigotry individual women have. Women being taught that femininity is bad, especially when being performed by someone “supposed” to, isn’t an example of hypermasculinity being imposed by women. These women got this perception from men and are spreading it because it is normalized.

Basically, yeah. That’s kind of the point – you always have to look back on yourself and be mortified and resolve to be better. Shit, the stuff I said just five YEARS ago (and I’m almost 33) makes me cringe like a motherfucker. Burn in mortification. Rise from the ashes and be better.
