and so, all these years after, i still can't not be sad that everybody thinks lj is a bad game because it's not a mystery/detective game they anticipated (and instead expands on moral questions brought up in je) and that people mock yagami for have "only one argument, how was he even remotely a competent lawyer" as if an uninvolved person just living her life being murdered isn't a good reason to stop and think that maybe your actions bring more harm than benefit for the world.
i mean, in the first game yagami stops an entire research that could've helped millions of people only because it cost the lives of the people who "wouldn't be missed anyway". i'm kinda sad that nagoshi chickened out, and that now we have a "but the research was never going to be successful anyways" argument to sugarcoat the long-term consequences that yagami's actions would've had.
but in a sense je has a bit more challenging moral question because the murders there had a "noble cause", while in lj we see a revenge-motivated murders that most of people already know is bad. and it irks them that the game tells them what they already know, but isn't it kind of inhumane to think that isn't a reason enough? isn't the death of sawa something not to brush off, something to rub in like salt into a wound of a genuinely compassionate, selfless person (because kuwana is not some animal who thrives on people's suffering, otherwise he wouldn't have thrown his life away to help hurt parents soothe their pain)?
i know people wanted something exciting and high on action, and instead got this story half of which yagami doesn't even investigate anything and just have a same old argument with a dude the glaringly obvious parallels with whom are chosen to be ignored, and that's understandable. i heard other reasons to dislike the game, and in the end they circled back to having different expectations for the game which weren't, of course, fulfilledβand it's kind of ridiculous knowing that lj was announced only half a year before its release (and it went by so fast), what time did you have to imagine yourself a whole ass game?
and it kind of sucks that this made everyone not see the message and questions nagoshi raised, and miss out on a great story with a conclusion so painfully simple yet heavy for the both characters involved in that conflict. it made both of them grow, and reflect, and change. i don't know what else this game should've been about, when the first one was the same, though included only yagami out of the two.
replay both of them if you care about at least je and mourn the game that lj was never meant to be. this message is not hidden at all. all you need to see it is to be compassionate and imagine what would it feel like if it all were happening irl. the games don't ask you for anything else.
more kuwagami shit I had piled up ugh
sometimes when I doodle kuwana I accidentally end up drawing sagawa and it really pisses me off pun intended
thereβs a huge lack of kuwagami content and I donβt want to starve
this is what derealization does to a mf smh smh

i feel like you've mentioned it before, but what's the difference between writing in english vs your native language? π€
ough, tbh i haven't written anything substantial in russian (my native language) for so long... only short pieces here and there. the last long fic was abandoned 4 years ago because i started writing guess what... the ever-changing... lol...
well, the first and rather obvious thing is that the meaning of what i write doesn't need to be double-checked lol. i do think i'm not really terrible at english, and most mistakes come from my inattentiveness (can't win against my adhd sometimes), but there have been a lot of cases when i use a word/phrase i'm not certain about (at some point of learning a new language it becomes more preferable to guess the meaning of words based on the context it was used in, not open a vocabulary every time; bad habit, but still), and it turns out i misunderstood what it meant lol.
the second thing, phrasing is a bit different. it comes both with that all russian prose (fanfiction included) has a... vibe, idk, which is different from the prose written in english. like, my own texts/fics feel different, even if i've written them at the roughly same time (within a month, for example).
punctuation plays a major role here (it sucks that em dashes are now strongly associated with AI, because i love using them in both languages, same with colons and semicolons: they set a certain rhythm to my writing, which is very important to me). it has a very, very strict and unquestionably set rules to it, nowhere near the ambiguity of the oxford comma. it is really important, and it helps to understand a written text so, so much easier, because of them there almost never a doubt what an author saidβand, of course, commas also create a certain rhythm!
participles (the two different kinds of them: one closer to adjective, and the second one closer to adverb) and participial phrases which can make a sentence harder to digest or make it more dare i say "poetic", or flowy (or pretentious). not that english can't be poetic, but it's more... curt? sometimes i really miss case suffixes and suffixes in verbs (and other kinds of suffixes: for example, in english we say "little box" when in russian a "box"/"korobka" is transformed into "korobochka" which is cuter imo. and we still can say it with an adjective too! and with an adjective AND a suffix for extra emphasis! flexibility!).
in short, everything which makes russian a difficult language to learn is also making it a more flexible language in writing, easier to experiment with. (though english still can't hold back my uhh metaphor-based writing. i love writing weird sentences, and i'll make it work. though in russian, it's so, so much simpler... sigh)
the third thing, russian is easier to make more "simple". there helps having no preestablished sentence structure. of course, there is still the ground for experimenting in english, but most of written/spoken text tends to follow "subject (noun) + predicate (verb) + adjective + object (noun) + adverb". we don't have any kind of a set structure in russian. why does it make a language simpler and not more difficult? having much more freedom to make a text "sound" with a particular rhythm, and, let's say, a unique soul, carry your distinct style of writing. but maybe i'm not that well-versed in english literature written in its mother tongue lol.
(also, we don't have grammatical articles, which are STILL, 20 years of learning english, a pain to me. i get the concept of course, but man, sometimes it is really hard to figure out which one should i use and if i need to use it at all. adds up to overthinking and additional editingβwhich is always exhausting.)
uhh, i guess, that's all? i think i said more about the grammatical side of things, lol, but it all comes down to languages "sounding" different, to say it simple. take a paragraph from the ever-changing where i tried too hard and imagine it being even more pretentious and metaphorical (and with less glaring mistakes), and here you go, that's how i write in my native language :3
thank you for the question and being interested in my writing, as always β€οΈ
can I impose a DNI between two people instead? I canβt stand these two motherfuckers together

hiii ππ so what do you like about kuwagami... i wanna hear about it... π
HELLOOOO KUWAGAMI YAP TIME ACTIVATED
i liked their little ragebaiter x ragebaited rivalry from the beginning and was completely content shipping it as hateyaoi and then i was absolutely suckerpunched by the fact that yagami actually....cares about kuwana. that he believes he can, by his own words, be saved, redeemed, and doesn't want kuwana to go where yagami can't follow because kuwana will likely end up dead. i have like a gazillion screenshots of the boat scene but this one
especially lives in my head rent free because, at least in the japanese dub, yagami's voice genuinely cracked when he said this- i was like WHOA HOLD UP THE HATEYAOI ISNT HATEYAOI AFTER ALL??? and the whole boat scene is like that AND THEN KUWANA CALLS IT A "MESSY BREAKUP" and wow. what's wrong with them
and apparently that boat scene lives in yagami's head rent free too BECAUSE HE KEEPS FUCKING TALKING ABOUT KUWANA AFTER IT. i know we meme about yagami's "what about sawa-sensei" a lot but i raise you "public security will kill kuwana"
it's just sbmjbjsmasd. dbmjnjmfndnmfbs and then obviously the whole finale scene. THEY SHOULD HAVE HUGGED GOD they were so close.
AND THE FUCKING EPILOGUE. yagami's friends enjoying the party together while yagami disassociates to think about kuwana. who let the fujos in the writing room. why is there so much yearning in the alleged hateyaoi. i hate this i hate everything i need to go read 673684 post canon reunion fics now
messy art :P
