When I was in my mid-20s, I found a lump in my boob while I was showering. The next day I went straight to the doctors after work, had a proper breast exam, and got an appointment for the hospital two weeks later. Two weeks after that, I had an ultrasound (as I was and still am too young for a mammogram, the breast tissue is too dense) and had confirmation that I’m, well, just a lumpy sort of person. But the one thing that’s stayed with me is that the first doctor I saw said I’d done the right thing by being someone who checks regularly and went straight to the doctor, because if there had been something to worry about, it would have been caught quickly and treated more easily.
