Rereading Wonder is taking me OUT. WOWIHDBSIAHS sorry if this post isnt coherent i just have so much to say!! I overheard someone in my year basically saying ‘its all about how difference is good, you dont need to write me a letter’ which yes, is a central theme, but it goes much deeper than that. With the multiple perspectives, the book does such a good job of highlighting how perspective can distort reality. Its interesting to ask questions to yourself throughout the book such as, “are these children truly giving August the dirty looks and stilted behaviour he assures himself of and thus the viewer?” Viewing the world through Augusts tunnel vision allows the reader to see just how insecure he truly is. Hes fixated on the notion of normality, with it being the first thing he discusses once he opens the book. August is trying to establish his own normalcy while also informing the reader about what makes people view him as irregular, like he needs us to fully form an opinion based on this information, like despite everything he does care what people think of him. His expectations of people and how they view him mirrors his inner insecurities.
