thinking, once again, about how fantine and ĂŠponine appear to jean valjean when he dies, despite neither having much of a relationship to him, because both valjean and fantine sacrificed their lives for cosette's well-being and happiness and both valjean and ĂŠponine gave their lives to save marius'. with this ending, les mis conveys that loving another person also binds you to everyone they love and love them, in an infinite chain.

If I may submit:
barnyard the original party animals is the uncontested lord of bad implications in childrens movies
ok so like âthe secret life of xâ movies tend to not strongly explore the actual reasons why, exactly, their life has to be secret⌠they donât really focus on it within the narrative. They do usually have some small justification for why animals or video games or toys or whatever have never just revealed themselves:
Thereâs no stated reason. They just pretend to not be alive. We usually can suspend our suspension of disbelief here because when itâs something like a video game or an emoji because any odd occurrences is perceived as a glitch or something similar but the actual reason why they arenât too hung up on this kinda shitty lot in life isnât said
They get something out of their current relationship with humans (like in toy story)
They have some specific reason to hide that theyâre alive, like they die if theyâre seen (like in the christmas toy)
They perceive themselves as sentient, talking creatures, but humans canât understand them. They just see a squeaking mouse or an inanimate hot dog or whatever.Â
and the last one is what most animal movies do, and itâs like, not devoid of weird implications but you can see where it mostly works.
but barnyard is the outlier here: it goes with tier one: the animals can talk and walk on two legs but just pretend that they canât for unstated reasons.Â
in the history of the barnyard world non human animals, at some point, decided to just pretend to be unable to speak. a âcowâ or a âcoyoteâ or a âhenâ do not exist as we know it in the barnyard universe. the baa of the sheep is false; the ewe doesnât understand it either. they only made up that noise to hide the fact that they speak human languages. a dog barking and running on all fours is a facade. animals naturally walk on their hind legs and made up whole postures just to appear non sentient.
and for what? what do they gain from this? they have no rights and no voice by their own choice. at one point a donkey claims the farmer is a good person because heâs vegan and a pig mentions bacon - this is not a fantasy universe devoid of death and misery and meat. do animals, in hushed whispers, remind their children not to sob in their real voice as theyâre taken away? do the dogs not beg for kindness when theyâre tied up and hit? do cows and chickens not cry for their life in the slaughterhouses? does a rat not scream a human scream when the trap misses their neck and only breaks their spine? Why? what is the point? They loose so much and have everything to gain.
anyways does everyone remember this really awful cat. it only appears in one scene but i can just sense the porn of it that would pop up if i googled itâs name
This post is like being tied to a chair as a a joker-style villain monologues and presses a gun closer and closer to my head as he reaches the climax of his rehearsed piece on the flaws of society and when he finally pulls the trigger itâs a little flag that says âbang!â

often i am scared for no reason or several reasons
nobody:
half full water bottle left behind on the floor of a public bus: *rolls around*
OP is an optimist
i DON'T need them to kiss i need them to come to the sobering realisation that their souls are merged and no part of them is extricable from the other anymore

that actually reminds me. one of the biggest failings of rote in my opinion is, and i do of course understand some of this to be a product of its time, how badly the gender equality in the six duchies is repeatedly fumbled. in the first trilogy, we get lip service to how there is equal inheritance (and then we do later see a few women inherit so thatâs cool) but overall, patriarchal roles still exist; thereâs a lot of talk about kettricken bringing âa womanâs touchâ to buckkeep, starlingâs entire reason for being Like That is the classic womanâs conflict of infertility, kettleâs backstory, plus more casual dialogue and narrative assumption.
then we get to liveship and everything in bingtown is way more intense. the rights of women are actively being taken away, althea fights misogyny in basically every single interaction, everything is extremely explicitly patriarchal. and they start talking about how the six duchies isnât like that, how women are equal to men there, how they fight and lead and inherit and everything over there in the âbarbaricâ six duchies. we meet jek, who basically exists exclusively to get accused of being gay, be hot and fuck like crazy, and show off how independent and powerful six duchies women are (amber also adds to this but it is more complex for her, of course).
then in the next series weâre back home in the six duchies and it is⌠less⌠gender equal⌠than it was before? i was genuinely startled by just how patriarchal the six duchies is in tawny man. itâs sort of explicable from a narrative standpoint, as the out-islands are matriarchal and a strong contrast is more compelling, but it still feels jarring to read. dutiful is just sexist for no reason and is never questioned on it. mollyâs last name is for some reason âburrichswyfâ even though no one has had a name like that in the series to date. fitz assumes that tintaglia is smaller than icefyre because she is a female dragon, despite animals not working like that most of the time. i found it particularly jarring that, as opposed to the farseer trilogy, basically no female guards were mentioned and zero women were brought on the out-islands excursion. suddenly the six duchies is much more of a manâs club and, for all the changes in the world that fitz discusses, he never brings this up at all.
itâs just strange to me. i guess thereâs an argument to be made that the urbanization of buck somehow made everywhere more sexist, and fitz didnât notice because heâs unreliable or doesnât care about women or has had too many concussions, but i donât really find that satisfying. i havenât read rwc or fitz & the fool yet so maybe it will change again, who knows. i just miss the slightly less patriarchal version of the six duchies that we saw before.
bee and shine farseer in an alternative universe
Just realised that Fitz is to his two daughters what his parents were to him.
To Nettle he was like Chivalry, staying away from his child in an attempt to keep her safe, thinking he was doing the right thing by her. She even ended up in Burrichs care, much like Fitz himself did.
To Bee he was like his mother, a parent that loved his child deeply but failed to protect her when she needed it. Having his child taken from him and trying to get her back but inevitably her having to live without him.
man I need people to understand that two things can be true at once like Fitz did stay away from Nettle to protect her from the Farseers but he also did it because he was scared to go home and face Molly and Burrich, like both ways of interpreting that situation are correct because he did in fact do it for both reasons lmfao
my propaganda for the Farseer trilogy
