Sometimes asexuality can be used as a way to cop out of representing homosexuality. We have all seen "it is more than sex" "they dont have human genders and sexualities", ect. On the other hand, I do not think this is genuinely an attempt at representing asexuality. Asexuality is diverse, and asexuals have their own unique struggles. This false representation does not care about asexuals. It does not represent someone actively deciding that they differ from the norm, and that that is ok, whenever the word "asexual" is ever used. It does not represent the alienation from mainstream society, the material struggles, and the ways that asexuality makes allos uncomfortable and the ways it can seem strange to allos. Much like how desexualization is a way to make homosexuality more palatable to straight audiences.
