Misogyny is better defined as systemic discrimination and unfavorable, thoughts, beliefs and actions towards the female sex. These actions are often covert and often mean treating women with some level of disdain or carelessness.

The reason this matters is that when misogyny is simply defined as "hating women" it makes it harder to attack and makes it easier for misogynists to defend.

Misogynists are not brainless, many justify their misogyny in various ways to disconnect themselves with the belief.

As a student who studied sociology i compare it to the ideas of racism, for the most part (im aware this is not accurate for all) racist cops justify there racism by pointing to crime statistics this in turn causes them to be overly suspicious of ethnic minorities. One big example would be stop and searches the racist copes would be more likely to search black men for example because they assume they are more likely to be criminals, as a result more black men are found to be carrying drugs because they are overrepresented by police searches.

This is true for misogyny, misogynist dont necessarily go around saying "I want to hurt and kill all women because I hate them muahhahha"

Because they use various means to justify there hate.

This is the same reason Christians and other religious groups dont like when you call them homophobic and instead say shit like "i dont hate gay people i am against their lifestyle choices and think they are going to hell"

it's not normal and tumblr pretends not to see it, but when minors on their platform get harassed by a swarm of anonymous accounts, all wishing them death and brutal rape, that's literally a crime by most law systems. not to mention the moral side of it.

@staff how do you feel about little girls and boys being unconsentually exposed, multiple times a day for who knows how long, to explicit scenarios of them being raped and killed, made a sex slave, accused of grooming or pedophilia?

some of you may be parents yourselves. how would you feel about your children being targeted and bombarded with the kind of messages below? just because some time ago a radfem reblogged a cute cat picture from their blog, now they're threatened with sexual violence and death. it's your fault too.

Can you imagine being a 13 year old and being met with hundreds of messages like this on your my little pony drawing? This is actually insane.

exactly!! @staff you're allowing one (most probably) user to verbally assault, harass and bully thousands of people - mainly women and children - on your platform. you're breaking the law in most countries of EU, not to mention USA. I wonder - how your fun and easygoing image as moderators of this platform will look when this thing gets media attention? because everything was just fine a couple months ago, the blind eye was put on everything. you're allowing thousands of minors to be abused on a day to day basis here and pretend not to see it.

your silence and negligence is enabling this kind of thing to happen. you know your community very well, it was always a place that attracted mainly young women and girls who found a space here to talk about their mental issues without any filter. this is how it's always been. now imagine what kind of harm it can cause to suddenly flood these individuals with hundreds of rape, death, mutilation and suicide scenarios, day by day. you're partially compliant in anything that happens because of it, due to your absence of action.
