anybody see an ironic pattern in which states are deemed polite and which states aren’t

As someone who has lived in Texas and Oklahoma both for many years- no. These states are polite only if you look and act "a certain way." And even then, how people treat you is highly dependent on context. I've met some really kind and wonderful people in these states. But I've also found that MANY people in these states are incredibly fake when it comes to politeness.

This also outright disproves the "good guy with a gun" bullshit conservatives like to espouse. Because if a good guy with a gun takes out a shooter, the police kill them.
