*sees my mutuals logged on at the same time* ugh WHAT a day. Thank god youâre here. *doesnât interact with them in any shape or form*
love characters who are like "this is how the world works. this is how it has to be (because if i'm wrong i have to face what i've done // if i'm wrong i have to face whats been done to me) "
This trait is much more endearing in fiction than in my mother.

imagine being so ignorant you think that womenâs right to wear pants just fell out of the sky. women fought for it. they risked their jobs, reputations, relationships, and education for the right to wear functional clothing. women have always fought for the right to simply exist in public and you vile misogynists think that itâs a sign of privilege!!!!! eat glass!!!!!!!
I often think about the fight for pants specifically because itâs so mindblowing from our perspective today. We cant even imagine what women went through, and often knowing it wouldnât pan out in their lifetimes. They did it for US. I was reading about Elizabeth Miller Smith and her movement for practical dress, how she actually abandoned it because it was too distracting from other elements of the movement. It was so controversial just to say âthis clothing is uncomfortable and I donât want to wear it.â It was so revolutionary she couldnât even continue doing it out of fear for safety and progress. She knew it was important to keep it on the backburner for OUR sake and this quote will stay with me for life:
âAll hail to the day when we shall have a reasonable and beautiful dress that shall encourage exercises on the road and in the field â that shall leave us the free use of our limbs â that shall help and not hinder, our perfect development.â
She knew it was over for her. She knew that day wouldnât come while she was alive but she envisioned for ME to have that option someday, and I just cant let her be forgotten knowing how much she cared about me and other women who would come after her.
Look at how much the sufferage movement was mocked flat out mocked because women wanted to wear pants. And think about that. Think about how much women had to fight for that. Hell they even had to flight for bloomers
Women could not wear pants on the floor of the US senate until 1993. Less than 30 years ago.
Ugh. We shouldnât be glad we get to WEAR PANTS. Men donât even have to think about this so we shouldnât either, fuck men that we do⊠>>;;;
WOMEN STILL CANâT WEAR PANTS IN MANY PLACES IN THE WORLD BY LAW !!!!!!!!!
IN THE COUNTRY WERE I ATTENDED UNIVERSITY YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WALK THROUGH THE CAMPUS GATES IF YOU HAVE PANTS ON
YOU CANâT WEAR PANTS OUT IN THE STREET EITHER YOU CANâT WEAR THEM TO ANY OFFICE WITHOUT GETTING THROWN OUT
I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH THAT THIS IS STILL HAPPENING I CRIED TEARS OF JOY THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO WEAR WHAT I WANTED AND IT HAPPENED BECAUSE I TRAVELLED TO ANOTHER PLACE FOR A WHILE
It fills me with so much hope that there are places that are no longer like this !!!! I love the fact that my sisters can wear pants and whatever they want and I hope they continue to do that safely đ
I love everything about this post tbh, and that quote from Elizabeth Miller Smith made me tear upâŠ
Itâs also worth noting that even in places like the U.S where we take pants-wearing for granted, itâs STILL not allowed in some formal settings.
Heck, the idea that women even can wear pants while dresses in formal wear is something thatâs only pretty recently gone mainstream; it happened in my memory, my lifetime.
I think it needs to become common knowledge that "inability to read social cues" can show up as overcompensating.
You don't know how much misbehaviour is allowed, so you become the perfect child who never tests rules.
You don't know if someone is irritated with you, so you'll be extra generous and self-effacing.
You don't know how much is expected of you at work so you'll kill yourself in a minimum-wage job and not notice that nobody else is working like this.
"Hardworking and quiet" should be as much of an autism red flag as "ignores rules and doesn't know when to stop talking". Or why don't we just start using words to communicate so i can stop tracking everybody's eyebrow twitches, that would be great.
Latest reblog reminds me of how much it pisses me the fuck off how every queer person alive has to adapt to the usamerican style of queerness lest we get shunned by the community for being too different. I bring this up a lot but bro that time I got death threats for having ele/dele in my bio bc "by using neopronouns I was making a mockery of REAL trans people" when those are literally just my pronouns in my native language, and when I said that I got hit w the "well you're on the internet so speak english" I HATE GRINGOS I HATE GRINGOS I HATE GRINGOS
I feel the need to miss out a crucial detail I missed out in this post I made out of anger, and no, it doesn't add any silver linings or good context, it honestly only serves to make it worse.
In portuguese, much like spanish, we have no gender neutral pronouns. People who do not use ele/dele and ela/dela (he/him or she/her) all use whatever neopronoun suits them best in portuguese (ie elu/delu, eli/deli) because we have no access to a universal gender neutral pronoun like gringos do. When I brought this up upon them making fun of my "neopronouns", they said to suck it up, and that being foreign does not make neos valid.
In mocking people who use neopronouns in english, you are mocking a very large sum of latin american genderqueer and trans people.
I know various latin language speakers that struggle with their identities in their native tongue due to us not having they/them equivalents, so they are forced to let go of their, in example, brazilian queerness, to appease to anglos who would harass them and call them mockeries of trans people for not sticking to what The Cis want.
When non-anglos tell you the usamerican and british dominance over queer spaces ruins things for them, they mean it. We are forced to repress our identites because you people think they're too "out there and problematic". We are forced to suppress our own queer culture because we don't fit into your neat little boxes of what makes someone gay what makes someone a lesbian what makes someone trans or what makes someone anything else.
You tell us to remember "our queer elders", but do you know of any queer latin american figures? We learn your history, and you refuse to learn ours because you already have "too much on your plate". You disregard us and shame us for not fitting your ideals of queerness and using labels for ourselves you dislike, and try to baby us and tell us the proper way to be gay.
Your culture is not universal.
You are not saving queer people by making jabs at other queer people you don't personally get. Odds are you are harming an entire group of foreign queers you never bothered to consider, because your anglo bubble is too self important.
If you want to do queer people a real favour instead of getting mad at identities that existed long before you were even born, here. Make yourself useful. Donate to queer brazilian housing and support programs. Your beloved dollar is worth a lot more than the Real. Even five dollars help.

Hey man reblog this version instead lol
piracy as a morally questionable thing is a very alien concept to me but so is piracy as a morally righteous thing like. Living in south america in a country with constant economic crisis has made me aware that there is fundamentally no moral in the act of downloading a videogame to your pc or a pdf of a book, because in here most things i actually pay for arent original either. Most books i have are copies or secondhand, so no matter if i pay for them or not the creators arent getting any money either way. I cant afford to go to the movies or actually buy videogames so for those things the question isnt if i pay for them or not, the question is if i get to interact with them at all. Its very weird seeing people talk about piracy as a thing that you choose to do or not and that choice having moral weight instead of just a fact of life that almost everyone has to do if they want to access information or entertainment
i think fundamentally piracy is about accessibility, because everytime i see a post going "dont spread a dl link to whatever, support the creator instead" its like, i literally can't do that, i don't have the choice to pay for it or not, if you take away the link the only thing youre doing is making it impossible for me (and anyone else that cant buy it because of poverty or because its innaccesible in their country or for whatever reason) to access it, you're not doing some righteous thing and getting more people to pay for it bc most people who pirate stuff can't access it any legal way
and even if people just dont want to pay for shit why the fuck do you care anyway

. SOMETHING about how people have no fucking problem with white men being pretentious but as soon as it's a woman or a person of color or a queer person there's a problem
One of the ballsiest things Tolkien ever did was write 473k words about some hobbits called frodo, sam, merry, and pippin and then write in the appendices that their names are actually maura, ban, kali, and razal.Â
This just in: Eowyn and Eomerâs names actually start with the letter âL.â [source for other nerds]Â
#wait so they have hobbitish names and common names?
No, they have Westron names and English names.
What youâve got to understand is that everything Tolkien wrote was him pretending to merely translate ancient documents. He was writing as if the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were actually been written by Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam (or Bilba, Maura, and Ban) and he was just some random contemporary academic translating it all into English for us.Â
There are many languages in his books, but generally speaking, everything written in English in the books is a translation of the language âWestron.â Therefore any names that come from Westron, he translated. Names coming from other languages, like Sindarin, he left as they were. Why? IDK. Maybe because the stories are from a hobbit perspective and hobbits speak Westron, so he wanted the Westron parts to sound familiar and the other languages/names to remain foreign?Â
âBut Mirkwoodest!â you cry, âThe word âhobbitâ isnât an English word! And the names Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, and Meriadoc Brandybuckâ all sounds super weird and not like English at all!â
Psych! They are in English! (Or Old English, German, or Norse.) Once again you underestimate what a nerd Tolkien was. Let me break it down:Â
In Westron, hobbits are actually called âkuduk,â which means âhole-dweller,â so for an English translation, Tolkien called them âhobbitsâ which is a modernization of the Old English word âholbytlaâ which comes from âHolâ (hole) and âBytlaâ(builder).Â
âMauraâ is a Westron name which means âWise.â Weirdly enough, âFrodoâ is an actual Proto-Germanic name that actual people used to have and it means the same thing.Â
âBanazĂźrâ is Westron for âhalf-wise, or simple.â In Proto Germanic, the prefix âSamâ means half, and wise is obviously a word we still use.Â
âRazanurâ means âTravelerâ or âStrangerâ which is also the meaning of the word âPeregrin(e)â This one is a twofer because âRazarâ means âa small red appleâ and in English so does âPippin.â
âKalimacâ apparently is a meaningless name in Westron, but the shortened form âKaliâ means âhappy,â so Jirt decided his nickname would be âMerryâ and chose the really obscure ancient Celtic name âMeriodocâ to match.Â
Jirt chose to leave âBilbaâ almost exactly the same in English, but he changed the ending to an âOâ because in Westron names ending in âaâ are masculine.Â
Iâm not going to go on and talk about the last names but those all have special meanings too (except TĂ»k, which is too iconic to change more than the spelling of, apparently).Â
The Rohirrim were also Westron speakers first and foremost, so their names are also âtranslationsâ into Old English and Proto-Germanic words, i.e. âEowynâ is a combination of âEohâ (horse) and âWynnâ (joy/bliss).Â
âRohirrim/Rohanâ are Sindarin words, but in the books, they call themselves the âĂothĂ©odâ which is an Old English/Norse combo that means âhorse people.â Tolkien tells us in the âPeoples of Middle Earthâ that the actual Westron for âĂothĂ©odâ is LohtĂ»r, which means that Eowyn and Eomerâs names, which come from the same root word, must also start with the letter L.Â
The names of all the elves, dwarves, Dunedain, and men from Gondor are not English translations, since they come from root words other than Westron.Â
The takeaway from this is that when a guy whose first real job was researching the history and etymology of words of Germanic origin beginning with the letter âWâ writes a book, you can expect this kind of tomfoolery.
Notes: Sorry I said âRazalâ instead of âRazarâ in my original post Iâm a fraud.Â

What is or isnât a slur can be highly contextual, y'all.
âJonny Sims bummed a fag off my maâ doesnât contain a slur, but âWhat are you, some kind of fag?â does.
âQueer studiesâ, âthe queer communityâ and âIâm queerâ? Not a slur. Some bigot calling you a âdirty queerâ? Slur.
âBe gay, do crimesâ and âHeâs gayâ â slur, but âEw, thatâs so gayâ = slur.
In conclusion, stop buying into this fucking âq slurâ bullshit. Queer people talking about the queer community arenât using it as a slur any more than a gay man calling himself gay is using that term as a slur.
Looks like its time for derogatory pepperoni again
That is actually hilarious, thank you for this addition
You are allowed to exist alone in public btw. You're allowed to go to the movies alone and go out to eat alone and hang out in a park alone and go for a walk alone and whatever else. It isn't weird or creepy, it doesn't make you lonely or a loser or whatever. You are allowed to just exist as yourself.
What Iâd give for one of the Cinderella remakes to go into how when youâre in an isolated and abusive situation, sometimes you need to be saved and youâre not weak if you canât escape by yourself
Iâve never been a fan of bad faith reinterpretations of fairy tales, especially ones which flatten the originals into âprincesses is saved by a prince and nothing elseâ, to then go #girlboss. The princess can save herself because sheâs a strong female character! (Implying if youâre in a bad situation, itâs because youâre not strong enough to get out)
Also the concept of the Prince over the course of like⊠a couple hours hanging out with Cinderella going from âHaha nice I really like youâ to âoh fuck i can tell from context clues alone that your home situation is FUCKED UPâ  itâs good shit  âI have just met you but ON GOD Iâm gonna get you out of there beautiful mystery womanâ  cinderella makes desperately yelling into the night âhow can I find you again!??!â when sheâs taking off that much more poignant really
Heâs been trained to read the room. To read the context clues. To read politics and scheming and planning and people. Heâs a Prince, itâs either that or accidentally drink poison by age 15. And he reads her and âŠ
Sheâs impossibly wealthy. The dress isnât a fabric he can recognize, but itâs beaded with cut diamonds, faintly milky opals that shimmer with a rainbow, little pale aquamarines, and somewhere are little bells gently ringing with each step - heâs a Prince and he canât afford to dress like that. The slippers ring too ⊠there is nothing like that crafted by the hands of humans. Thatâs fairy stuff. She has an in with them that eclipses royal politics. She is powerful in the Old Ways.
All this wraps around the poorest woman heâs ever seen in his entire life, and heâs seen some very, very, poor people in his time.
Poor in money, but poor in âoh you poor thing!â as well. This is someone who has been robbed blind. This is someone who carried themselves waiting for the lash, for a browbeating, for harsh, cruel, abrupt, punishment.
He expects her to be haughty, or hard, or meek or⊠something else⊠but sheâs just nice. Sheâs just ⊠nice.
The rigid posture comes out of his back, his tongue unsticks. Sheâs like sitting by the embers of a low, calm, fire. He feels warmed and rested simply speaking to her. He wonders if itâs magic, and it might be, but if it is it is magic that is her own.
And that terrifies him, because heâs trained to see these things and he knows someone with a cruel hand is waiting to douse her, and snuff her, and beat the last glimmer out of her shining eyes - eyes that put that dress to shame and and and and⊠sheâs gone.
Oh god, sheâs gone. It will be all over her sweet, kind, warm face that she transgressed and ⊠oh god theyâll kill her, whoever they are. This will embarrass them and if thereâs anything he knows, itâs that you donât humiliate someone who has power over you and walk away unscathed.
And all he has is a fairy slipper that will only ever fit her foot (itâs not merely shoe size, itâs a kind of spiritual fit as well), and the vain hope that he can keep such a bright light from burning out. It doesnât even touch his heart that what heâs feeling is a kind of pure philia, not until it enraptures him soul to bones, all at once. Oh god, oh no, oh shit⊠heâs reached well above his station, butâŠhe can try to be good and worthy.
The way he sees it, sometimes even the strongest people can be brought low and need just⊠a little help. She had enough in her to do whatever she had to do to free herself of those evil relations if she had to, but she shouldnât have to. Thereâs no glory in blood. Sometimes itâs okay for the ending to be happily ever after.

tired of blue from blues clues not being a beloved tumblr dog. she is literally everything
she did so much for us in our youth and you all abandoned her
As someone recently diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, one thing thatâs been helping me grapple with the intense shame I have over all my âwasted potentialâ is accepting that potential doesnât exist and never did.
This sounds so harsh, but please bare with me.
I procrastinated a lot growing up. I still procrastinate today, but less so. And yet, I got good grades. I could write an A+ paper that âknocked [my professor]âs socks offâ in the hour before class and print it with sweat running down my face.
I was so used to hearing from teachers and family that if I just didnât procrastinate and worked all the time, I could do anything! I had all this potential I wasnât living up to!
And thatâs true, as far as it goes, but thatâs like saying if Usain Bolt just kept going he could be the fastest marathon runner in the world. Why does he stop at the end of the race??
If ANYONE could make their top speed/most productive setting the one they used all the time, anyone could do anything. But you canât. Your top speed is not a speed youâre able to sustain.
Now, Iâve found that I do need to work on not procrastinating. Not because the product is better, even, but because itâs better for my mental health and physical health to not have a full, sweating, panicked breakdown over every task even if the task itself turns out excellently. Itâs a shitty way to live! You feel bad ALL the time! And I donât deserve to live like that anymore.
So all of this to say, Iâm not wasting a ton of potential. I donât have an ocean of productivity and accomplishments inside of me that I could easily, effortlessly access if I just sat down 8 hours a day and worked. Thereâs no fucking way. Thatâs not real. Itâs an illusion. Itâs fine not to live up to an illusion.
And if you have ADHD, I mean this from the bottom of my heart: you do not have limitless potential confounded by your laziness. You have the good potential of a good person, and you can access it with practice and work, but do not accept the story that you are choosing not to be all that you are or can be. You are just a human person.
