if you're an adult behaving immaturely i'm not going to "treat you like a child" about it because i have a lot of respect for children as an oppressed and vulnerable class of people. i will however treat you like an embarrassment. which you are being.
do you think the people who would build a rent reducer 9000 are the same people who are building houses

text: [ “Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5000 years.” ]
And they're absolutely specifically pushing it, make no mistake. It's not just a matter of "it's there, it's convenient, so people are going to take the path of the least resistance", but it is a legitimate and concerted effort on the part of these companies to get people to outsource all these things to their models.
They're preying on insecurities to do it. Yes, you can write an essay - but can you write a good essay, they ask you. Do you not want to improve your output? Do you not want people to think of you as competent and very clever? Why go through the mortifying process of failing and failing and failing until you succeed if you can just skip the "learning" part of doing, and simply generate a ready-made product?
I'm preaching to the choir here obviously but it's a concerning thing to witness nonetheless. My kid is 6 next week and I've been teaching her that failing at things is morally neutral and in fact necessary even before the advent of AI, but it's becoming ever more important that we teach the kids that criticism and failure and discomfort aren't necessarily bad things, but just a part of the growth process.

This isn’t quite how I imagined the second coming of Christ.
What makes this funnier is that I’m pretty sure that’s at the station for cologne cathedral
It is and everytime I see that hole I think of this video
Remembered to check at the station today and report that
The structural stigmata are still there
Why are the 4 holes?? Maybe 5?
It’s his daily commute.

So what I think is that there's this default belief in patriarchy that men are superior to women and therefore the "masculine" sphere is superior to the "feminine" sphere. And so, as feminists have fought to expand the number of allowable female activities, men (on the aggregate over generations) have retreated from those activities because they're now seen as "feminine", and so partaking in them is incommensurate with their belief in their own superiority. And, unfortunately, as this has progressed, this has resulted in a lot of men sectioning themselves off from, frankly, everything that actually makes being alive worthwhile. It's a misery spiral, and the only way out is to abandon male supremacy.
#men gave up deep friendships and reading and poetry and colourful fashion#all things that used to be considered manly in the 19th century#they're currently giving up on studying law and medecine#it's so stupid and sad
(I mean, the colourful fashion was more of an eighteenth century thing, but yeah)
#more women in higher education meaning fewer men is incredibly depressing to me. funny in a sad way#what happens when women will finally get into trades? will they just stop working

the countermeasure to dehumanisation is not sexualisation. the countermeasure is to treat the other person with respect and dignity actually.
i don't care if you wanna fuck fat people or hairy people or trans people or the elderly or disabled people or whatever. can you treat them like human beings

Race isn’t mentioned in this post, but I’m sure it applies regardless. Take the screenshot in context to both that and the groups mentioned above.
oh i'm absolutely gonna cry
No you get it. This is it.
Poulin was 18 at her first olympics. Team canada wanted her to stay with a host family during training because she had never lived on her own before. So caroline ouellette, charline labonté, and kim st-pierre took in this teenage prodigy so she'd have exactly the mentors she needed, and 20 years later poulin is a five-time olympic medalist, captain of team canada, and captain of a champion team in a women's professional hockey league bigger than anything her mentors had. And caroline is on the ice to celebrate with her and be part of the future she worked for.
I love women supporting and uplifting and mentoring and creating the next generation of groundbreaking women in sports, and I love it when they're lesbians.

I looked up all of these and it seems clear that a hateful motive is only even suspected in one or two of these tragic killings. One was a robbery at a pawn shop, one was domestic violence, one a hit and run — trans wasn’t likely a factor in these at all. A few others are murkier but nothing definitive so why spread paranoia?
New global data Trans Murder Monitoring 2025 reveals a dangerous shift: a growing number of murder victims are trans movement leaders and ac
As in previous years, Black and trans women of colour, and trans sex workers are over-represented among murder victims, with sex workers (34%) being the most targeted of all known occupations. This highlights how misogyny, racism, xenophobia, and whorephobia intersect in deadly ways. (From link above)
This post, and many transgender memorials, does not just commemorate victims of hate crimes.
Trans people are more likely to live in poverty, more likely to be forced to become sex workers, and more likely to experience domestic violence, thus more likely to be murdered including for reasons that are not explicitly hate crimes. Being multiply marginalized eg being Black makes all of this violence and erasure even more likely. Both race and gender identity are relevant here. (Additionally, trans men who are murdered are often reported on as cis women, and thus don't appear in these stats, even though they experience violence at a higher rate than cisgender women.)
Because transgender people are generally considered less "important" by society, many suspicious deaths are also never investigated or ruled as suicides. It's likely the numbers we do have are underestimates.
To illustrate, in the USA, data from killings that were reported as murders and included the victim's trans identity:
The largest occupation was sex workers followed by artists and hairdressers, occupations generally held by people who are lower income
Many were killed as a result of domestic or state violence
78% were Black or Brown
This isn't paranoia. It's very real.
“we need to stop the stigma towards drug users and addicts” and “we need to challenge the idea that being sober makes you boring” and “we need to stop acting like binge drinking to the extent you’re doing medical damage is fun and normal for young people” are all ideas that can and should coexist.
just so we’re clear, the threshold for “binge drinking to the extent you’re doing medical damage” is waaaay lower than you think.
I work in an obstetrician and gynaecologist’s office. we have to tell patients on a regular basis that they are binge drinking weekly when they think they are simply consuming a normal amount of alcohol on the weekends.
having more than 3 drinks in a single sitting if you have an estrogen based endocrine system is a binge that is medically significant.
having more than 5 in a sitting is a medically significant binge for someone with a testosterone based endocrine system.
every time you do this, it significantly impacts your risk of getting breast cancer, and damages your liver. it takes time to recover from that liver damage. if you’re having a 3-5 or more drink binge on a weekly basis, you are an alcoholic, medically speaking, and your liver is not recovering.
again: the bar for what binge drinking is, medically, is so much lower than what you think it is.
alcohol is a really toxic substance and not something you should fuck around with.
again: if you have an estrogenized hormone system (common for most women), then 3 drinks is a binge. if you have a testosteronized hormone system (common for most men), then 5 drinks is a binge.
anything above that number, consumed as frequently as weekly or more, and you’re medically a binge drinking alcoholic.
also, if you’re drinking any quantity of alcohol 6 days a week or more, that’s another threshold at which, medically speaking, you meet the definition of alcoholism. your liver needs more days without alcohol in your system than just one a week to recover and be healthy.
I don’t say any of this to shame anyone—to me, alcoholism or substance use disorders aren’t a sign of weakness or moral failing. and most of us genuinely don’t know this stuff.
rather—I point this out because it’s important to reduce harm, and find ways to live healthier, happier lives. there is a life outside of constant binge drinking. it’s not always easy to find it. but it’s out there. you deserve a life where your emotional needs are met by something other than alcohol, and a life in which your liver is healthy, and the ways you cope and celebrate and find joy don’t put you at increased risk of cancer.
also–even if alcohol is the only way you can self-medicate, or if you choose to go on with your alcohol usage anyway regardless of other options–you still deserve to know what it’s doing to your body.
information is key. you don’t have to stop drinking, but the utter lack of education on alcohol + the normalization of binge drinking in current society leads to many people drinking without any idea of what it’s doing to their bodies.
addicts deserve accurate medical information regardless of what they decide to do with it. for some people, losing liver function is worth the benefits they get from binge drinking, but they can’t make that choice if they don’t know what the consequences are to begin with.
addicts deserve accurate medical information regardless of what they decide to do with it.
Can someone tell me the definition of one drink in this context?
Because a vodka shot is not the same as (idk, some low alcohol percentage alcohol.)
So, what does 3 (or 5) drinks mean.
0.6 ounces of alcohol is a standard drink. Examples include 12 ounces of 5% alcohol beer, or 1.5 ounces of 40% alcohol liquor.
if you are like me and numbers slide off your brain like water off a ducks back, you can use this Standard Drink Calculator to out how much you are drinking.

"it's just stress" oh thank god, it's just the silent killer that slowly kills you, perfectly harmless, no need to worry
"it's all in your head" oh thank god, it's only just affecting the most important organ in my body that controls almost everything i do to live, perfectly harmless, no need to worry
Oh that one is especially fun to hear when you have a neurological condition. Yes, I know it's all in my head. Headache disorders do tend to happen there. Shocking, I know.
