i find it interesting how our first glance at buffy starting to love poetry was through bringing up emily dickinson - a woman who was notorious for her obsession with death. yeah, she was there because owen was also fascinated with the gory things, but applying emily dickinson in buffy`s case so early in the show almost feels like we are watching her whole life trajectory of a push and pull game that she, as the slayer, has with death being intricately set up right there and then, like she is irrevocably sealing the deal, unknown to her, with her destiny. we get to know that buffy adores poetry only after her encounter with dickinson, and, honestly, yeah, it checks out that buffy summers, who flirts with death in a vampire form, who falls in love with that said death, after reading poems dedicated to it, she found herself seen and understood and became captivated by poetry. and not only that, but of course her lover contains in himself two entities that she is so heavely interested in: a vampire and a poet.
