North Carolina has a sad history of voter suppression, stemming from the Jim Crow laws adopted by Democrats over 100 years ago that included the poll tax and literacy tests. The parties have reversed roles but the ugliness of this new law is too similar.

The pro-industry rhetoric in North Carolina comes on the heels of Gov. McCroryâs (R-NC) decision to reject the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants that would have funded water quality studies in some of the stateâs most vulnerable wetland areas.
The justification? The fracking boom isnât enough of an issue in North Carolina to warrant such environmental studies. According to the most recent commissioners debate, however, fracking is enough of an issue to consider changes to its regulations in favor of industry.
