There were people in 2016 who refused to vote for Clinton because she was a dreaded “neoliberal.” I believe the neoliberal world order had some excesses and failure that should have been reigned in and corrected without turning to populism, and increasingly fascism. But, to be serious, even if you felt Clinton was too hawkish, too unlikely to support the healthcare reforms you favored, too beholden to corporate interest, the number one reason to vote for her was the Supreme Court.
We could have had a 5-4 court that gave us at least a fighting chance to do something about Citizens United and the billions of dollars of dark money now in elections. Someone shouldn’t be able to spend $250 million on a candidate. He should face the same $2500 limit as the rest of us schmos. Instead we have a generationally captured 6-3 court and are drowning in Epstein class money infecting our elections.
