As a fan of both HR and Off Campus, this is the best way I can explain how both shows are important that I haven't seen anyone talk about. They both address and challenge aspects of toxic masculinity that's been embedded in hockey culture for years.
Heated Rivalry calls out the homophobia aspect of toxic masculinity and hockey culture, looking at how pride nights are treated and the lack of out players it's important to address (especially when compared to the PWHL - wife line for the win). It also addresses mental health within a tough-it-out group mentality.
Off Campus addresses domestic violence and sexual violence (especially against women), which given a recent Canadian trial and certain NHL players in the playoffs is extremely relevant. The books also look at mental health, substance abuse, and other topics relevant to college sports/life.
One is a drama and the other is a romcom, but both are well done adaptations that respect the romance genre and treat their deeper subjects with care.
