I honestly hate doing this, but i feel i have to address this, I am utterly disgusted..
It is disappointing to see people join this community, a space for Norse history and culture, only to use it as a platform for narrow-mindedness. I have made it clear across every one of my profiles: we respect each other regardless of race, religion, or background! This person was ignorant and dumb enough to not have seen it, let alone where i stand on the matter.
To the Neo-Nazis and "purists" lurking here: I am 100% Scandinavian for as far back as the Middle Ages. My lineage is likely more "white" than yours, so don't try to lecture me on my heritage. Imagine claiming to be a Swede while spewing this kind of hateful shit. Freindly reminder and history lesson, the Vikings were world travelers who traded, lived, and integrated with cultures from Byzantium to North Africa. Sug min jävla kuk, skitstövel.
Now, why is diversity viewed as a threat? You can honor our ancestors and preserve our culture perfectly fine without being exclusionary. If advocating for basic human decency makes me "woke," so fucking be it, but let’s be real here: the rhetoric being used here is just thinly veiled racism. I’m also tired of the constant slander against immigrants in Scandinavia. While no group is perfect, i wont be ignoring what is in front of me.
The actions of a few shouldn't be used to demonize an entire population who have earned their place here. You don’t know their stories, and frankly, you don't need to, you shouldn't have to assume every POC person you meet on the street will go after you. If a white person moved to a developing nation, would people have the same reaction? No, they wouldn't, they will most likely be praised, and dare i say worshipped. People of all backgrounds have lived in these countries since before many of you were even born and they had less rights back then, but they were not the source of our crime rates. They are part of our home, helping build our communities.
Regarding the crime rates: it is gut-wrenching to see people, some as young as pre-teens, getting caught up in drugs or violence against their peers. But before you use these tragedies as "proof" for your prejudice, educate yourself. These families are struggling, trying to fit in with us and relearn everything. There is also a thing such as culture shock, by the way. These children aren't born "bad" they are acting out because they are screaming for help that never comes. Our systems are failing them, prioritizing the wrong issues while ignoring the roots of the problem. As someone who has also faced the system, not because i was escaping war or worse, can confirm the people in charge are disconnected. They don’t understand us, and they aren't listening.
We live in a democracy, a system where the government is supposed to listen to the people, all the people! Instead of attacking those who have the least, we should be holding those in power accountable for letting our communities fall through the cracks. Either grow up, seek help or get out of the country if it bothers you so much.
