so, as an aspec lesbian who would like to enjoy pride for once in her damn life i have a request to non-exclusionists:

-when you see a post made by an ‘ace’ person that is so Obviously Bad and awful and Homophobic and all in all Problematic in Every Way, it’s very possible it wasn’t made by an asexual person but instead a piece of shit trying to demonize asexual people. if there’s a comment that says ‘this is why everyone hates asexuals’ ding! ding! aphobic asshole detected! please don’t reblog the post.

-if a post talks about how aces are better than allos and think we’re purer or whatever, that’s a troll. almost none of us think like this.

-if an ‘ace’ person refers to themselves as ‘acey’ or ‘asexy’ that’s probably a troll. while they were words we used to use exclusionists took them and user them to mock us and call us cringy. most of us don’t like using them because of this.

-if an ‘ace’ person calls allos ‘dirty allos'or ‘dirty sex havers’ that’s a troll baby! exclusionists refuse to understand the definition of asexuality, or that a lot of us enjoy sex.

-if you see a post made by an ‘ace’ or ‘aro'person that’s complaining about pda in pride, that’s a troll! if an aro or ace person feels uncomfortable we’ll just leave. we don’t go around yelling at people about pda. a lot of us like it in fact.

The second the bell rang we were out the door, our plaid skirts flapping in the wind as we bounded towards our first stop: Stacy’s car. The three of us piled in, someone cranked the radio, and then we were out of the drive, down the hill, and free.

My water bottle was full of gin and tonic, and I passed it to the other girls as we drove, excitement growing with each minute.

“Are we really doing this?” Jess asked from the backseat. She was the sweetest of us girls, but she also had a dirty mind. She just hadn’t had much opportunity to do anything with it.

“Of course,” Stacy said. “I bet he’s already there trying not to piss himself.”

“But he’s into it?” Jess was overly concerned with the boy’s willingness. Which was ridiculous when you think about it. He had to do nothing, and he was getting everything. So what if he couldn’t brag about it to the guys in the locker room without changing the details? He was going to be fine.

“Up there,” I said, pointing to the turn off into the wood. Stacy slowed the car down as we made one last pass of the bottle. The dirt road stopped after a half mile, and we parked against the log barriers that lined the cul de sac.

We stood in front of the car, our heads together, as we encourage ourselves and each other to go on with it. Ronnie would be waiting down the path, and he would be there with her. And if all went well, he’d be ready for us.

The closer we got the faster my heart beat until I felt like I was about to jump out of an airplane, not do something stupid with a boy in the woods. But the thrill was real, and there was nothing to be done about it. We were all about to lose our virginities and if that wasn’t something to be nervous about, what was?

move the pictures on your wall

stack whatever clutter is in your room into piles even if you don’t have time to clean it all

slightly vary your commute, even just by one street

change where you sit and scroll aimlessly on your phone even if it’s only to the chair in your room instead of your bed

drink water or juice out of a wine glass in the morning because nothing is real

shower with the lights off, without music

buy $3 flowers at trader joe’s—they look bad next to the more expensive ones but they look so good in your room

start typing things you don’t post into your notes. your thoughts can be worth documenting even if you don’t deem them worth sharing

wake up super early just once. you don’t have to make it a habit it’s just extra satisfying to go to bed that night

The other day I was feeling miserable, so I hopped on a bus and rode it all the way back to where I’d started, and my brain, which had finally had some proper stimulation via new environments, was suddenly ready to go again!
