Misinformed and ignorant? DEFINITELY. Did I deserve the threats? No, BUT- I understand now how deeply personal race issues are to POC and how that’s not a feeling I’ve ever had to experience, so while I can’t say I understand the threats, I COMPLETELY understand the anger.  (I’m doing research for a video about Onision but this is the OTHER drama I got into and so there are a lot of posts about this, too, and I just wanna say “my b” on this one, even though nobody uses Tumblr anymore)

I had to search the “shelbyxpwns” hashtag for research for a video and saw this. I just want to say that my take on this was bad and uneducated and in hindsight I am thankful for much of the negative feedback I received for it. While I still believe that there wasn’t any racist intent on Disney’s part when Frozen was made, I do believe that we didn’t need ANOTHER movie where every single prominent character is white (I really zoomed in one one black background character to try and make a point? Shut up, Shelby.) I’m glad Disney is making strides and that they have released several POC-centric films since Frozen (and even included more realistic depictions of the Sami for Frozen 2. I loved that touch,) but there’s still a lot of work to do as far as systemic racism in ALL of its forms including the media. As a white person, I am still constantly un-learning all the shit I grew up believing. I’m still not perfect, but I AM an ally and I AM putting in the work to be the best type of ally I can be. And I just wanted to say that. Thank you for calling me out. Truly.
