Conservatives, especially on Fox News and other right-wing media outlets, have long framed George Soros as a âpuppet masterâ and a âglobalistâ who controls the government with his âtentacles.â Sam Bee explains that type of language didnât come out of nowhere.Â
im at a huge family reunion this weekend and i got pissed @ my cousin for sayin some Hot Shit about political activism in traditionally not-at-risk communities and when i was like, its literally not willful ignorance on the part of the individual its a cultural collective in terms of the privileging of education and value on certain aspects of human experience, like a focus on stem rather than on history or language, that is negatively long-term impacting the way that we teach our children to replicate past generational behavior and thought patterns and we need to improve our humanities and social sciences education so that we as adults understand the importance of the way things like protestantism has changed from a marginalized community to a powerful underpinning of western culture and a byline of white privilege and he was like
but the minutiae dont matter. i dont think you can make people care about this. youre arguing something and youll never listen to me
because you know absolutely nothing about this and this is literally what i am writing my actual fucking phd on
so anyway if you dont know what the glorious revolution is and youâd like to understand like the entirety of american history, go read about it. knowing more about international representations of deluge apocalypses as a form of myth and collective human experience will help you understand the way that we think about climate change. the quartering acts as well as arms seizure during the american revolution both are why we have the second amendment which is explicitly about being able to take up arms against an invading force withholding the rights of marginalized people and then them having the right to not only have guns but use them on the ruling classes, so like.
you know.
history is kind of. super important. and maybe we should. uh. teach it more.
i literally cannot even imagine the shape the world might be in right now if we were taught that jesus was a brown jew, for example, rather than that the jews killed jesus and he was white bc he was in the renaissanceâ˘. can you even imagine. this one thing. this one thing included in history. it would literally undo the fundamental dynamic that underlies about half of fucking western culture. but u kno. nobody will change their minds about it ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻÂ

Acephobia in the LGBT+ Community from the documentary (A)sexuality.Â
It is justâŚso fucking weird how threatened people feel when it comes to Asexuality. I still canât wrap my mind around it.
Iâm so happy this post is being reblogged by LBGT+ people who arenât asexual. I keep on reading posts by non-ace LGBT+ people of support to the ace community, and of being stunned by this reaction by a movement which should know better than to judge. AND THAT MAKES THIS ACE SO FREAKING HAPPY. The woman in the first photo expresses my sentiment. I know I belong in the queer/LGBTQIA movement. I want to belong. But I just donât know if Iâm welcome. Iâm so happy that there are so many people on Tumblr who do not fall into the catagory of outright refusal of asexuality.
I know not a lot of people understand asexuality. And I know thereâs confusion about it, about our experiences, and about how we fit in the movement. But letâs talk about this. Letâs have this conversation.
I mostly donât delve into the ace tags, but I hear thereâs a lot of ace-hate that and I really donât get it. Â I donât understand how asexuality is threatening.
You know what I (as a queer ace-spectrum person) find most threatening? Â Getting unwanted sexual unwanted advances from both queer and straight people. Iâve gotten them from people of all spectrums and it always makes me profoundly uncomfortable, and often unsafe. Â It just boggles my mind how people are upset by the concept of asexuality. Â Thatâs like getting really mad at someone who isnât hungry. Â Whatâs the point? Â Just shut up eat your own sandwich. (And stop chewing on me.)
Wow, the fuck the people in those images.
Nobody has the right to disrespect anybody elseâs sense of self. It may not be for, you but that does not give you the right to be an asshole.
We really need to push more for LGBTQIA+ to be a standard, instead of just LGBT, especially considering that even the B and T are already invisible in much of the community.
Not supporting some of us = not supporting all of us.
Not supporting some of us = not supporting all of us.
It really, really does bear repeating.

VIDEO FROM THE SURFACE OF A COMET
This is truly incredible.
Details:
Remember Rosetta? That comet-chasing European Space Agency (ESA) probe that deployed (and accidentally bounced) its lander Philae on the surface of Comet 67P? This GIF is made up of images Rosetta beamed back to Earth, which have been freely available online for a while. But it took Twitter user landru79 processing and assembling them into this short, looped clip to reveal the drama they contained.
while the stuff in the foreground is dust/ice on the surface of the comet itself, the background is actually stars. i saw a stabilized video where you can really make it out, and it blew my mind.
hereâs the stabilized clip, if anyoneâs interested

Hey so friendly reminder about voting and elections that I havenât seen going around yet but is SUPER IMPORTANT.
Watch what you wear and say while youâre waiting in line for the voting booth/at the polls. It is against federal law to do anything that might be considered campaigning once youâre there, and since we know that voter suppression is the name of the game this election, there will be people looking for ANY reason to remove you from the polling place. And they will nitpick. You have a shirt with a artistic picture of donkey on it? Youâre visibly supporting the Democrats, youâre disqualified from voting. Want to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt? Not there you donât. Theyâll call it intimidation and kick you out. Pins, buttons, stickers, none of it. Wear the most bland, plain clothes you can imagine.Â
And then keep your mouth shut. Even the slightest hint of discussion about which candidate youâre voting for can get used against you. Donât assume the people around you are safe to discuss it with. You might be overheard. There WILL people watching for these things, hoping to get rid of anyone they can. Voter suppression isnât just about making registration impossible. It happens at the polling stations too. Be smart, be bland, be quiet, and make sure your vote gets in.Â
Also- and I have seen this mentioned but it bears repeating- DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR BALLOT. EVER. Itâll also disqualify your vote. Take a selfie when youâre out of their with your fun little sticker.Â
BIG NEWS IN TEXAS!!!!! Over the 10-day early voting period 4 MILLION votes were cast! This is 84% of the total votes casted in the 2014 midterms!!! Oh, and Beto OâRourke is now even with Ted Cruz in the polls so get out and VOTE BETO FOR U.S. SENATE ON TUESDAY!!!!!!!!

Some Photoshop Tips
Iâve been getting quite a few asks about the process for the patterns in my stylized artworks, so I decided to put together a couple of tips regarding them.Â
Firstly, what you need are
â CUSTOM BRUSHES â
Most of the patterns I use are custom brushes I made, such as those:
For the longest time I was convinced making brushes must be super extra complicated. I was super extra wrong. All you need to start is a transparent canvas (2500px x 2500px max):
This will be your brush tip. When youâre satisfied how it looks, click Ctrl+A to select the whole canvas and go to âdefine brush presetâ under the edit menu
You will be asked to name your new glorious creation. Choose something that describes it well, so you can easily find it between all the âasfsfgdgdâ brushes youâve created to be only used once
This is it. Look at it, you have just created a photoshop brush. First time i did I felt like I was cheated my whole life. ITâS SO EASY WHY HASNâT ANYONE TOLD MEÂ
Time to edit the Good Boi to be more random, so it can be used as a Cool Fancy Pattern. Go into brush settings and change whatever youâd like. Hereâs a list of what I do for patterns:
- under Shape Dynamics, I increase Size Jitter and Angle jitter by 5%-15%Â
- under Brush Tip Shape, I increase spacing by a shitload. Sometimes itâs like 150%, the point is to get the initial brush tip we painted to be visible.
- If I want it to look random and noisy, I enable the Dual Brush option, which acts like another brush was put on top of the one weâve created. You can adjust all of the Dual Brush options (Size, Spacing, Scatter, Count) as you wish to get a very nice random brush to smear on your backgrounds
The result is as above. You can follow the same steps to create whatever brush you need: evenly spaced dots that look like you painted them by hand, geometric pattern to fill the background, a line of perfectly drawn XDs and so on.Â
BUT WAIT, THEREâS MORE
â PATHS â
But what if you want to get lots of circles made of tiny dots? Or you need rows of triangles for your cool background? Photoshop can do all of that for you, thanks to the magic of paths.
Typically, paths window can be found right next to Layers:
Draw whatever path you want, the Shape Tool has quite a bit of options. Remember, paths are completely different from brush strokes and they wonât show up in the navigator. To move a path around, click A to enable path selection tool. You can use Ctrl+T to transform it, and if you move a path while pressing Alt it will be duplicated.
Now, pick a brush you wish really was in place of that path youâve drawn and go to layers, then choose the layer you want it to be drawn on. Then, click this tiny circle under the Paths window:
Then witness the magic of photoshop doing the drawing for you while you wonder how tf have you managed to forget about this option for the past 2 yearsÂ
You can combine special brushes and paths for all sorts of cool effects. I mostly use them in backgrounds for my cards, but you can do whatever you want with them.
I hope that answers the questions for all of the people who were sending me inquires about the patterns. If you have any questions regarding this or any other Photoshop matter feel free to message me, Iâm always up for complaining about how great and terrible Photoshop is Câ:
Polycystic ovary syndrome, which affects one in five women, seems to be caused by a hormonal imbalance. An IVF drug may fix this, and will be trialled soon
The most common cause of female infertility â polycystic ovary syndrome â may be caused by a hormonal imbalance before birth. The finding has led to a cure in mice, and a drug trial is set to begin in women later this year.
Polycystic ovary syndrome affects up to one in five women worldwide, three-quarters of whom struggle to fall pregnant. The condition is typically characterised by high levels of testosterone, ovarian cysts, irregular menstrual cycles, and problems regulating sugar, but the causes have long been a mystery. âItâs by far the most common hormonal condition affecting women of reproductive age but it hasnât received a lot of attention,â says Robert Norman at the University of Adelaide in Australia.

THIS IS UNUSUAL CONTENT FOR MY BLOG BUT
Y'ALL THIS IS HUGE
!!!!!
Just going to point out that as much as this excerpt here describes it as affecting âfertilityâ and oh woe, they canât get pregnant as easyâŚuh, itâs also something that can make them fucking miserable and POTENTIALLY KILL THEM Hereâs the thing: ovaries normally do produce cysts. Theyâre supposed to! To an extent. They produce like, a tiny number, maybe one, each menstrual cycle, because the egg that is ready to be hypothetically fertilized, is PUSHED OUT to the fallopian tube, by an actual cyst. This is the normal process, in the â4 out of 5âł women who donât have PCOS. In PCOS, though, my understanding is that the cyst production does not happen in this nice, orderly fashion, only happening approximately every few weeks; instead, it goes haywire and happens all over the place and WAY too much (hence âpolycysticâ). Left unchecked, this can cause the organ to become damaged, it can cause it to swell and even press on other things in the abdomen and put OTHER parts of the body at risk, can cause all sorts of awful things. IIRC ( @tekka-wekka I think you know more about this than I do, by all means please correct me if Iâm wrong about any of it?) it tends to cause a lot of pain or heavy bleeding during many peopleâs menstrual cycles and, as noted, causes them to be more irregular - so itâs basically a disability, one that can be LIFE-THREATENING. And guess what the main treatment for PCOS is, to keep the cysts in line and regulate the menstrual cycle properly? Hormone-regulating pills. You know, the ones normally labeled âbirth controlâ. This was what Sandra Fluke was testifying about a few years back, during health care debates, by the way. She had a friend who had EXACTLY this condition, and the fact that Georgetownâs student health coverage would NOT cover her âbirth controlâ medication meant that she went without it for three monthsâŚand her ovaries, filled with cysts, enlarged so much that she required EMERGENCY SURGERY (to remove them entirely, IIRC). Which is why Sandra Fluke was FIRMLY arguing for increased access to âbirth controlâ medications; because leaving aside questions of autonomy, itâs an actual literal life-or-death health necessity for many people! Such as those with PCOS in specific! But I digress. My point is: this is a condition that goes beyond âfertilityâ issues; it requires a LOT of people to go on pretty much (IIRC) permanent hormonal regulation to carefully regulate their menstrual cycles in order to NOT DIE. Because, left untreated, it can, in fact, literally pose that risk. (And depending on the specific hormonal birth control in question - this may have the trade off of things like a higher stroke risk, so thatâsâŚthatâs a thing, too, oops) So uh. This? This is REALLY good news. But not JUST for folks with PCOS who want to have biological children; itâs literally just good news in general, because this could be LIFE-SAVING research?? I just wanted to point that out because, like, I donât think a lot of people are aware of PCOS and how it can potentially KILL YOU, and thereâs a lot of misconceptions about ovarian/uterine health in general, and like⌠and I think some folks might scroll past this thinking itâs mostly about âfertilityâ? When itâs actually a condition that impacts WAY more than that, and chances are very very good you actually know someone with this condition, whether you realize it or not.
Reblogging for the additional info. Most of the folks I know with this donât give a shit about fertility. They just want to stop needing S5+ painkillers to function at least 25% of the time.
The thing about this is, if IVF drugs were an effective treatment for PCOS, there wouldnât be so many women with PCOS who go through multiple rounds of IVF.Â
ITâS NOT CAUSED BY BEING FAT.
If thereâs one thing I want people to take away from this article, itâs that PCOS IS NOT CAUSED BY BEING FAT.
(Or at the very least, not caused by the person who has it being fat. DFK how maternal weight is involved, but since PCOS is hereditary, more likely PCOS also isnât caused by your mom being fat.)
The connection between weight and PCOS is that because fat tissue has a role in hormone production, being fat can exacerbate symptoms somewhat. However, PCOS also causes weight gain, so telling people with PCOS to lose weight is useless advice. It just so happens that people with less fatty tissue who have PCOS, have slightly more manageable symptoms.
And peopel took this to mean that fat causes PCOS, because people hate anyone who weighs more than like 90lbs.
Smash that mf reblog button if you stoically ignore all labelled washing instructions and everything your mama ever told you about laundry and just send those bastards hurgling around in an overfilled tub to meet either death or glory
Something I learned from a costume designer: if an item can be washed multiple ways the designer is only legally obligated to put one of the ways on the tag, but if thereâs only one way to wash that item they have to put Only on the instructions
If the tag says âDry Cleanâ itâs safe to machine wash but the designer thinks it looks better if you get it dry cleanedÂ
But if it says âDry Clean Onlyâ you will destroy it if you wash it any other way
Reblogging for that last bit which this 37 yr old adult did not lnowy
Other cartoons that the publisher refused to print before firing Rogers:
A political cartoonist who had satirized every President during his 25 years at the paper is fired for drawing Trump cartoons.
âThis is precisely the time,â Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto (often the target of Rogersâ cartoons) said, âwhen the constitutionally protected free press â including critics like Rob Rogers â should be celebrated and supported, and not fired for doing their jobs. This decision, just one day after Trump labeled the news media is âour countryâs biggest enemy.ââ
Y'know, like dictators always do under fascist regimes.

10 tricks you didnât know you could do with your food.
By Blossom
The internet went from showing food recipe videos to alchemy in less than a decade. Thereâs going to be a quick video on how to make the philosopherâs stone from tomato sauce next week.Â
I WANNA DRINK THE TRANSPARENT SODA
leave milk out unrefrigerated in your house for 2 days
Some days ago, my sibling sent me this video out of the desperate hope I could provide the catharsis of seeing it torn to pieces. It has now been coming on 72 hours, and only now have I recovered enough to be able to do much of anything but scream, âWHAT?!â and âNO!â at the screen.
We had a long discussion about what in the twelve hells this video even is. A surreal, dadaist parody so obscure that our brains arenât operating on enough levels to comprehend it? The Instagram lifehack equivalent of those terrifying procedurally-generated animated Youtube videos that farm ad revenue by playing millions of times to babies whose parents left the iPad on autoplay? A coded message designed to activate the combat programming of brainwashed cyborg sleeper agents? A post that slipped through a wormhole from an alternate dimension where the laws of reality are different? An emanation of a vast and alien chaos god?
I cannot bring myself to confront the claims in this video in the order they are put forth without losing my will to live after the first one, so I will start with the least crazy and work my way up.
Bananas to ripen things: More or less true. Youâll sometimes see advice to cooks to store underripe fruit in a paper bag with one piece of overripe (but not rotten) fruit to ripen it more quickly. Misrepresentations: It will probably take longer than overnight to ripen something as green as some of those tomatoes, and it doesnât have to be a banana.
Coca-cola and milk: The coke is more acidic than the milk and curdles it, resulting in solid globs of milk protein which settle out. The brown dye in the coke sticks to the milk protein globs, leaving the excess liquid more or less clear. Misrepresentations: The video has been enormously sped up, which the editing does not make clear; the reaction takes hours.
Ketchup to clean metal: To my mild surprise, this is actually a thing (though you could just make a paste out of salt, flour, and vinegar and scrub with that and not get ketchup stains on everything)⌠Misrepresentations: âŚfor cleaning copper and bronze. Which the jug shown in the video is not. The acid in the ketchup might take some of the tarnish off, say, aluminum, but at that point you might as well just use vinegar.
Sparkling water omelet: Omelet souffles are a thing. Misrepresentations: You⌠literally do not need the sparkling water⌠you can just beat the eggs until theyâre fluffyâŚ
âWarm water clears wax from fruits!â: This is a mysterious and arcane procedure called âwashing.â Misrepresentations: I donât know what the hell they even did to the video on this sequence but as a person who has washed many apples in warm water, it does not look like that and the thin layer of edible wax applied to make them look good in the grocery store does not come off that easily.
Sprite to clean earrings: Again, this will take tarnish off some metals just due to the acid, but⌠Misrepresentations: DO YOU WANT GROSS STICKY EARRINGS AND EAR INFECTIONS? JUST USE VINEGAR WATER. Also, âdirtâ is not a kind of molecule. (Incidentally, if the earrings are silver, there is a vastly better method that actually reverses the tarnish instead of removing it.)
Insta-freeze bottle: This is a real thing⌠Misrepresentation: âŚwhich absolutely will not happen if you follow their instructions, because a) they neglect to mention an important caveat (the water needs to be purified/distilled) and b) 5 minutes is not long enough for a water bottle to supercool. If you google any of the myriad videos and articles of people doing this trick, youâll see numbers like â3 hours in the freezerâ or â40 minutes in a salted ice bath.â
There is video of the trick working. Either that footage was taken from someone else, or they knew how to do it, did it, and then deliberately lied about the time for no apparent reason.
Putting a broken plate in milk for two days magically fixes it: To my immense surprise, they didnât make this one up; the idea is that the milk protein casein can form into a plastic at high temperatures and bind to the ceramic. Googling it turned up some hobbyist potters commenting that theyâd used it to salvage things that had cracked slightly in the kiln. Misrepresentations: Once again, theyâve misrepresented the method: everything I saw talking about how to do it said to boil the milk and then soak for an hour, not leave it out for two days like an offering to the pixies. And most of what I saw reported about it also said it only really works on hairline cracks, not full breaks, and doesnât hold up long-term because the real structural damage isnât repaired. And may leave a faint and persistent odor of boiled milk.
Just use superglue.
âReveal the genetic memory of the honeycombâ:
This is the kind of gibberish predicated on so many nonsensical assumptions that unpacking it would be more trouble than itâs worth. Plus, well, I can barely see anything with the low video quality, but what I can see of the vague blur doesnât look much like a honeycomb in the first place. Suffice to say:
âHoney looks like a honeycombâ isnât even in the ballpark of whatâs generally meant by âgenetic memory,â
whatâs generally meant by âgenetic memoryâ is also complete hooey, and
fluid dynamics is weird and swirling a thick, viscous, water-soluble liquid with a layer of water on top is going to do weird things.
But at least that I could potentially attribute to ignorance rather than deliberate intent to deceive, unlikeâŚ
Hot coals and peanut butter
This is the reason itâs taken me this long to post this. Every time I think about it my soul starts to leave my body. Itâs such a mind-boggling level of bullshit that every time Iâve tried to put words around an explanation Iâm quickly reduced to staring at the screen and mouthing âNoâ to myself in a voice of quiet despair, because I canât even figure out where to start.
Well, okay, I guess I might as well start by saying I think their⌠letâs say inspiration on this was articles about scientists who made diamonds out of peanut butter and carbon dioxide. âŚWith a press thatâs designed to recreate the conditions of the earthâs mantle, and which is prone to exploding. So, you know, not something you can do in your kitchen. Unless you have one hell of a kitchen.
You can see the direct links to this in the nonsensical claim that this âworksâ because peanut butter contains carbon dioxide. (It doesnât, particularly. Itâs crushed peanuts mixed with oil. You know what would have a lot of carbon dioxide? The fire you pulled that glowing lump of charcoal out of.) It also mentions âpressureâ when no particular pressure is involved, presumably because weâve all heard about turning coal into diamond under heat and pressure.
Chemically speaking, thereâs very little to make that crystal out of except carbon, unless you want to posit a mass migration of all the sugar molecules in the peanut butter to the center of the coal. And âcarbon crystalâ = âdiamond,â and do you think if it was that easy to make diamonds theyâd be that expensive?
I will guarantee you that crystal is a lump of quartz they covered in black crud and then peanut butter to pretend it was the charcoal.
But, of course, all of that is irrelevant, because by reblogging this at all, even to performatively despair that the internet does not seem to have come all that far since the days of Infinite Chocolate, Iâm playing into their hands. Lifehack clickbait has done this forever- they deliberately seed in wrong or awful advice because people will share that to say how stupid/wrong it is. They led with complete insanity to get attention, and I gave them eyeballs on the video watching this, and Iâll be giving them more from writing this.
Maybe Iâll stick to the chaos god theory. Itâs less depressing.
@ohnofixit
I apologize for being stupid enough to believe that video so reblogging the breakdown of why it was wrong.
Spent the last two days working on this little archery guide in art and writing. Considering the rise in popularity of archers in pop culture this hopefully comes in handy for a bunch of fandoms.
