the cat burns all of grace's science shirts. grace is initially distraught, but it's okay. the cat has replaced his wardrobe with far more fabulous items from the cat's own cast-offs. [this will cause problems later given the cat's absolutely snatched waist.] grace is like oh um no thank you, this is awkward, i really don't-- IS THAT REAL WOOL? the cat is like obviously 😾do i look like a guy who touches polyester?

kryten sees the living quarters aboard the hail mary and goes catatonic. then he comes back online. then his head explodes. grace and rocky are horrified. rocky accuses grace of being so utterly filthy he killed their new robot friend. lister says not to worry, they've got a spare head back on the dwarf.

rimmer is INSUFFERABLE about the existence of aliens being proven. he then declares himself acting general of the human defence army against the invading eridians. grace explains that it's just him and rocky and they're actually on their way to rocky's planet, not the other way around. rimmer quickly declares himself the leader of the human colonisation of erid project, and claims erid in the name of humanity. lister declares that they should just ignore him.

lister, inexplicably, walks around in the eridian atmosphere just fine. rimmer is hysterical and sure he'll die, but refuses to enter the atmosphere, despite being indestructible.

they discover that lister can do this when he gets hungry, wanders off, and they find him munching on rocky's food in a xenonite tunnel. grace is gobsmacked. "how can you do that." "aw, it's not so bad. me gran's old flat smelled like cat piss. really takes me back, actually." "that's not - i don't - okay." grace has a breakdown. then, "... what does eridian food taste like tho." "kinda like gran's burnt kippers, actually."

holly hits on mary. mary wasn't sentient before, but the power of lesbianism awakens her. she declares that she is running away with holly. grace explains that he and rocky will die if she does that. she says she doesn't care. grace pulls the dead crewmates card. she begrudgingly agrees to stay onboard. technically, she did kill them. holly is like aw come on, as if it was your fault 🙄

lister makes grace a triple fried egg butty with chili sauce and chutney and grace bursts into tears. rimmer gets weird and possessive and claims HE was the first person lister ever made a triple fried egg butty with chili sauce and chutney for. lister says that is NOT true, wtf? rocky comments that this is the most disgusting food-related human activity he's been witness to yet, and rimmer interprets this as a threat against his life and again attempts to declare war on erid.

Do you know how much I enjoy fandom's ongoing love for fem!Holly and how much it feels like she's the primary Holly despite the disparity in screen time? DO YOU?

Every day I choose to believe that every human being is fundamentally the same. That every adult was once a child, that every child had fears and hopes and joys, and every person desires to live happily and free of pain.

This does not absolve them of their cruelties. This does not condone or minimize their transgressions. This simply is to say, "I too could become monstrous: what would it take to push me there, and how could I prevent it, and if I could not prevent it, how could I stop?"

I believe that to be human is to be an animal like any other. I believe that we are not evil. Because if I believed that humanity was evil, fundamentally cruel, and incapable of better, what hope would I have? What purpose? What life could I live, as a plague surrounded by plagues?

I don't believe that people are good because I have not seen evil actions. I believe that people are good because I have to.

Because otherwise, I'd have nothing to live for.

While Murph's characters' numbers are certainly respectable, and Maxwell is the most paired-off individual character, Emily's characters have him beat on this preliminary analysis.

This is making the assumption that fics rated E are rated as such for sexual content rather than high-level violence, and that a character being tagged in one means they are involved in the smut. These assumptions are both extremely broad and potentially incorrect, but I've had a really long day and I'm tired. If anyone wants me to go deeper (I have thoughts about examining the top pairings, which tell a very different story), let me know and I'll try to come up with a more robust test soon!

But the original Moomin stories are undeniably dark. They're often about being sad and depressed and so, so lonely, about looking for a home, about never feeling fully understood, about growing up and having flawed parents. About never being fully able to understand some people. Moominpappa at Sea, the whole Groke situation, Moominland Midwinter, the last few Moomin books in general. The Hattifattener's whole deal. Their world is full of sad and strange things. It's just also about seeing the fun and feeling love in a world like that.

I think the average Tumblr user would love the Moomins even more if everyone stopped pretending that they're Disney-type creatures, and instead embrace the incredible Finland-Swedish weirdness. Tumblr I know you love weird stuff! Get into the strange side of the Moomins!

Tom Paris: organized it. roped people into it. claims the first slot. spends his five minutes telling jokes like “I just flew in from the New Zealand penal colony and boy are my arms tired!!”. polite chuckles all around because he leans into telling awful jokes.

Harry Kim: technically perfect jokes delivered with too much nervous laughter until tom starts heckling and suddenly his five minutes is all crowd work

Tuvok: Tom did not expect him to agree, but Tuvok delivers a series of deadpan riddles and knock knock jokes to devastating effect. runaway success of the evening.

Chakotay: was NOT going to participate until the captain teased him about stage fright. observational humor, the type of person to pick someone out of the crowd and deliver his material directly to them.

Neelix: a TIGHT five entirely on leola root. stuns the crew with his self-awareness, makes them all wonder if he’s been inflicting Leola root on them for the Laughs this whole time

B’elanna Torres: does alright until tom also decides to heckle her. she throws the mic at him, chaos ensues, she does not complete her five minutes.

Seven: her jokes themselves are not funny. What gets people is when she informs them they may proceed to laughter. Similar to Harry in that they are technically perfect jokes. Some nervous chuckles, most people are relieved when she leaves the stage.

Kathryn Janeway: has been having a Good Time watching her staff do this, very alarmed when Chakotay says turnabout is fair play and she ought to get up on stage. no structured jokes, tells anecdotes from childhood/the academy that get laughs because for some reason people on her ship think she is straight laced and she’s always been That Reckless. Probably leaned up against a lectern or piano or something with a glass in her hand like Frank Sinatra the whole time.
