It is time. You sure about this?

“You said you wouldn’t use the dark side again!” Anakin shouted, unable to believe Obi-Wan.

He had promised Anakin he’d try to be better, that he wouldn’t reach for all that anger, desperation, fear, and horror and use it to hurt another person. And yet there Obi-Wan stood. His blade was still blue, the crystal inside not yet bleeding, but already screaming and crying out in pain loud enough that Anakin could hear it.

“You promised,” Anakin said, thinking of all the times Obi-Wan had managed to make a miraculous safe. Had he been using the dark side then too? The thought that he’d been lying to Anakin all these months made him sick to his stomach.

“I had no choice,” Obi-Wan replied. His voice was as flat as it had been when they’d first met. “They were going to kill you.”

“Then you should have let me die!” Anakin shot back.

He’d rather die a thousand deaths than see Obi-Wan reduced to that hollow shell again. He felt so cold, worse than the frozen landscapes of Ilum, which, at their core, were leading you to warmth.

“You don’t mean that,” Obi-Wan said, his blank expression suddenly overtaken by shock and fear. “Anakin, you can’t mean that.”
