It is in the small things we see it. The child's first step, as awesome as an earthquake. The first time you rode a bike, wallowing up the sidewalk. The first spanking when your heart went on a journey all alone. When they called you crybaby or poor or fatty or crazy and made you into an alien, you drank their acid and concealed it. En el 2015, visité Jinju con mis amigas y volví a asistir este año en octubre 2018. Justamente se llevaba a cabo el Festival de Jinju Namgang Yudeung. Y me enamoré de este festival porque tenía estructuras elaboradas a mano por hábiles artesanos, lo que me llevó a preguntar:

¿Cuánto tiempo toma crear una linterna?

¿Cómo se le da color?

¿Se puede ser voluntario en la creación de linternas?

Y me imagine una forma de aprovechar y reutilizar materiales (reciclaje) para poder crear linternas artísticas amigables con el medio ambiente. Para mi este festival es una expresión artística que permite a los artesanos, artistas y estudiantes dar a conocer la historia como también sus aficiones.

El Festival Jinju Namgang Yudeung se originó a partir de la costumbre tradicional coreana de hacer lámparas a base de papel que se utilizó durante la batalla de la Fortaleza Jinjuseong de la Guerra Imjinwaeran (1592) como una estrategia militar para evitar la invasión japonesa en el río Namgang.
