reading up on ye olde LGBTQ history makes me feel way less insane about how things are currently going
Stonewall happened in 1969. We’ve only had the gay liberation movement for about 50 years. There are people still alive to this day who were mere teens at the Stonewall uprising. We’ve made so much progress in just that time. No amount of billions of dollars from the world’s richest bigots can undo 50 years worth of progress.
The president cannot, and will not, in a million years, be able to accomplish the eradication and suppression of transgender and queer folk. He’s only got 3 years left in office to do his damage, and he is STRUGGLING. His public image is at an all time low and civil unrest is at an all time high.
It comes down to 50 years of global progress against 4 years of bullshit. They statistically, logically, and fundamentally cannot win. You can make it through.
Average life expectancy is like 80-ish years. If you’re 16 and you want to kill yourself because of evil homophobia laws, KEEP LIVING.
It will suck for another 3 years. It will get a lot worse, thats a given. But it will get better. You’ll live to see the world heal.
It’ll be the year 2060 and you’ll look back on this with your friends like “wasn’t that fucked? i’m so glad thats over and we made it” and you’ll all hug and kiss and it will be okay.
