so i have to wonder: did emerl and his death had contributed to sonic to become more of really wanting to help and save metal sonic? to make up for how he couldn’t save emerl?

like yes gemerl do exists but despite how he’s friendly to sonic through cream, sonic never seems to… really interact with him after advance 3? the only time he does is in metal virus arc and afterwards they both continue to never really interact, it almost like sonic avoids and ignores gemerl because gemerl is a living reminder of how emerl died since he was literally made with emerl’s remains

Considering the timeline, it makes sense why Sonic was way too sure on Emerl's survival: Shadow supposedly "died" and they wll grieved him, and months later the guy turned out to be fine, just with memory issues. I wonder if that ended up with him desensitized at the concept of death: the universe taught him that everything is always fine at the end, that everything has a solution and nothing bad ever happens permanently.

And then something bad DID happened permanently, and Sonic just wasn't prepared to deal with that.

I like to think that, at least unconsciously, he keeps his distance from Gemerl as a way to protect him: he's fine with Cream, no need to ruin another Gizoid's life by mingling them on his business

Also holly fuck said like that it's absolutely morbid. Gemerl is made from Emerl's corpse. Holly fuck no wonder Sonic barely interacts with him, talk about a walking trauma trigger...

... And, this is straight up just fanfic territory, but we never got an actual confirmation of how much of Emerl still lives within Gemerl, right? Like, how much of his memories he conserves (if any) and at least personality wise they're VERY VERY different, they couldn't be any more different

So... Imagine a little after Sonic Advance 3 when Gemerl has been repaired by Tails and all, Sonic gathers courage to go talk to him, to apologize to him for failing him so bad, to apologize to him for not being able to save him back then. To welcome him back and tell him of how much everyone had missed him

Except Gemerl doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. He doesn't remember being Emerl. Actually, he has never been Emerl at all, he may have his body, but that's about it.

I love the idea of cream always viewing Gemerl as an older brother figure while initially he only really viewed himself as her protector (she’s such an innocent little baby how can he NOT want to keep her safe) but overtime embraces the label, like when cream is in her mid to late teens it takes him awhile lmao

Vanilla on the other hand shared the idea that he’s simply cream’s protector but over the years as they all lived together and bonded began to feel a very maternal connection to him, and will occasionally refer to him as one of her children

I think Gemerl would find it a bit odd at first but eventually finds her to be a comforting presence whenever he’s doubting his abilities and especially his identity. He never outright says that she’s his mother out loud but will at least admit she is a maternal (and extremely important) figure to him

Also yes vanilla eventually adopted him in my au he’s legally her son meow meow here’s the proof right here, she even gave him a cute pink scarf to wear
