The basic premise is that there's this multiversal organization known as the Server, dedicated to keeping those with natural access to the multiverse (as in people who gain the ability to travel universes via a canon event, like c!Failboat) in line. Employees are hired in various different circumstances to keep tabs on their own alternate universe counterparts. If those counterparts go too far and negatively affect the multiverse too much, well... the employee also has the jurisdiction to handle that problem. If you know what I mean.

Anyways, this organization, of course, has variants of the scythe brothers working for it.

I think I've gone on record saying this before but Moom Mom's revival powers can only go so far, and a soul can only return to its body if it's still somewhat intact or can be repaired. like with bagel, a slice right down the middle of the body is pretty brutal, but that only leaves two pieces that need to be brought back together, not that bad for a heavenly being to work with.

rapper failboat did in fact kill failboat like ordered in collision, but he didn't deal with the body properly, which is why failwhale was pissed. you gotta like, completely descrate a body beyond fixing for somebody to be dead dead fr fr. cremation also works.

I also like to think that the power of the scythe lives inside the body as well, and you gotta fully deal with that to get it out, because if not then Rapper Failboat would have the power at the end of collision, and then Failwhale would just yoink it from him since he's loyal, a much easier situation for Failwhale to deal with without backstabbing and Moom Mom intervention like he hoped would happen.

So basically you can get the power by completely completely killing someone, or by using cool star wars force powers like failwhale did for a few seconds there in divergence. he can do this because he's the villain of the story.

This probably sounds better so let's go with that. He definitely wanted Rapper Failboat to go out and get some "worthy soldiers" or whatever the hell he says in divergence and kill off failboat, but they did like a really shitty job at it, and also like look at them. kirby enemy with a laser gun, trans shark girl who's a lover not a fighter, his other fucking son which was only gonna cause trouble, pixel fucking boat, and an active suicide bomber.
