you need to understand that i have two sets of headcanons. there's the set of realistic headcanons based on my genuine reading of the show, and then there's me playing pretend with my dolls.

#oh this scene. this absolutely deliciously exquisitely exquisite scene. i adore everything about it.#I love that Langdon came back. And that he came back with: zero fanfare or drama. You don't even see the moment he walks back in.#(and believe me - i looked for that moment in the background of many shots lmfao). But he's just: there. Like he never left. Like he DIDN'T#get publicly yelled at and punted out of the ED like an hour before. And you know? I don't think he hesitated or thought about it.#He got the message about the MCI. He knew he could help. He came back and he helped. Simple as. That fact alone tells you so much about him#About who he is as a person and as a doctor. and about WHY he does this. It is; fundamentally (and always has been) about saving lives.#More people will be alive if he's there - so he's there. I love; too; his “none of these people should be here”. he's calm. he's composed-#emotionally he's handling this in the moment as well as anyone. but that one line - it does so much to acknowledge the horror and reality.#No. He shouldn't be here. But NONE of them should be. This shouldn't be happening. But it is. So he is. It's as simple and complex as that.#This is not about him rn. This is about THESE people. The people he can save. And if Robby wants him to stop he's going to have to make him#And he doesn't. Because he shouldn't let him stay - but he HAS to. This is the greater good he decides is worth risking his career over.#Langdon IS that greater good. Because he IS saving lives. He HAS got this. And that is all that matters in this moment.#But I do wonder how much of that 'I've got this. Trust me.' (esp with the way pball chooses to play it. The pause. The deliberate look up-#-the eye contact. the longest he's let himself be still/not look at his patient. The INTENT of it.) This was about more than this moment.#This was about EVERY moment they've had; and every possible future moment. “I've got this. You KNOW I've got this. I've ALWAYS had it.”#'You know me; man.' You know what I can do. I've got this now and I've had it this whole time. Trust THAT. Trust /ME/.' I'm in control.#I've got this (patient) and THIS (the benzo tapering/his job/Robby's back). I do.
